When I was living in Hollywood for a few months in the eighties, I would go to the Disneyland promenade just to watch and listen to the piano players. I remember you from there. Sometimes you'd pop up on the radio while driving in Baltimore. I always enjoy your playing.
Hey Judy! So glad to see you safe and well at home there, and happy your audience there was respecting their social distancing (Lol!) ... Great to see and hear you and the Steinway I remember so well, and thanks for the uplifting vid - look forward to more as the muse inspires! Love & Cyber hugs - Chris & Vicki in Asheville
That Steinway needs you! It's socially isolating too, so it's less in tune every day. Love and healthy thoughts to you both. Stay safe. More videos to come!
You are the consummate entertainer, dam fine, rhythmically rock solid pianist, and accomplished vocalist. Great show at Schmitt's Music in Denver to an overflow crowd. You are truly amazing.
@@JudyCarmichaelJazz I just wrote this to Charles Sszczepanek, th-cam.com/users/CharlesSzczepanekvideos a very talented arranger / pianist / TH-cam artist now living Colorado Springs. Unfortunately he couldn't make your overflow show at Schmitt's: "Judy Carmichael is fantastic at what she does. She's a great entertainer as well as being one of the most rhythmically solid pianists I have ever heard. She literally never missed a beat. She has a light touch and her right hand is very fluid while her left swings as hard and as the 1960's Oscar Peterson Trio with Ed Thigpen and Ray Brown. I played with Earl Father Hines a few times, and I have to say Judy's rhythmic prowess is absolutely tops. She plays stride, but her playing is completely modern and there is no sense of listening to dated music from the past. She really is a one woman band. Judy and the Steinway B at Schmitt's both sounded absolutely perfect."
@@JudyCarmichaelJazz, In Hawaii, at the Hawaii Yacht Club. I'm a drummer, but presently I'm a piano hack. I did play piano at Chucks Cellar in Waikiki for a year. I noticed at Schmitts when you asked. "How many of you here play piano?" Hardly anybody raised their hand. I didn't raise mine. Many solo pianists would be very reluctant to follow your performance. I wanted to ask you if you had every crossed paths with Beegie Adair. There are more on the list. Being from LA how about Hampton Hawes? Carol Kaye? Pascal Wintz? Mimi Blais? Jonny May? Marian McPartland? I should probably read your biographical book. How do you differentiate Stride from Ragtime? As for playing with Hines, it's more of a thrill now than it was then. He's more legendary now. At the time, he was just real.
@@JoeLinux2000 You really should get my book. I talk about all these things including how I learned to play the way I do and when Basie told me he was passing the torch to me, a VERY emotional moment, as you can imagine! Of your list, I only knew Marian. I did her show early in my career and she did mine late in hers! You should subscribe to my podcast: Judy Carmichael's Jazz Inspired. Right up your alley! Thanks again for all these lovely remarks.
Judy - thank you for revealing your super powers pedal map! love the video. Sorry I missed last nights performance … my wife was leaving on a trip and I wanted to hang with her. Definitely love to see you at one of your upcomings. Matthew best to find me at the deliverybike address 🙂
