Dear Santa...This year, I would like a backhand like Richard Gasquet's. Thank you, Santa. Warm Regards, Ted P.S. That Federer forehand you gave me last year has been working out rather well. I'm kicking some serious butt with that shot.
Wow! Good to see the best one handed backhand played against the best two handed backhand. It would be an interesting match if they play each other again in Wimbledon 2011.
Imagine a player with backhand of Gasquet, forehand of Federer, serve of Raonic, passing of Murray, defense and mental strenght of Nadal, physic of Djokovic... omg, that'll be a cyborg. Some years ago, this perfect player was Federer.
fed's backhand was great at its time. Now his closed-style quick swinging backhand is susceptible to shots above the shoulder due to increasingly bouncy and slow courts. Gasquet and Almagro handle these well, although they still hit 10-15ft behind the baseline to get them sometimes.
@skatetennis123 murray. i think gasquet's stamina couldn't keep up and he also had some injury issues, which allowed murray to come back and win in 5 sets.
@pauloolem I don't know, look at the backhands Djokovic did against Nadal in Madrid this year. Those were the sickest backhands i have ever seen in my life, two handed or one handed.
@shido534 It doesn't make any sense. I have been watching Djokovic since US Open 2007. And I saw him beating Federer and Tsonga at the Australian Open 2008 and I saw his family with the name "Nole" written in their t-shirts. I know his backhand is freakin' great. But a few years ago it wasn't as good as it is now. But you can't say his forehand isn't huge. He's got the power and the angles, he is a complete player nowadays.
@poopseks maybe the guy he is playing in this video andy murray as well as nalbandian, davydenko, fish, simon, warwinka, chela, kohlschreiber and rochus to name a few but you are right they are in the minority
@TTFAFF Almost everything about Djokovic's game is better than it was a few years ago, and of course he possesses a powerful forehand. That doesn't mean his backhand isn't noticeably better.
fed's backhand is not as good as wawrinka/gasquet, but in my opinion that is what makes him better. He has a much better forehand than both those players and with his incredible footwork can hit inside-out-fh's to set up winners. wawrinka/gasquet never hit inside-out forehands which makes them predictable.
@TTFAFF Based on your statement about his forehand and the fact that you called him "Djoko", I doubt you've watched him play very much. Nole fans know that his backhand, especially down the line, is superior.
Federer shanks backhands all the time. If he had a backhand like Gasquet or Almagro, maybe Nadal and Murray and now Djokovic wouldn't own him head to head.
Gasquet just ran out of gas. For some reason the Roland Garros organizers didn't give him the extra day of rest after he won the Nice tournament just days before the French Open, so he literally only had a day (I think) off before he had to play Murray, in the 1st round here. As you can see, he was pulling all the strings in the first two sets, but slowly but surely was losing steam as the points wore on. Pity. I think he could have done well in that tournament.
Honestly, I still think Federer has the better backhand. He almost holds it with a continental grip, so he has more options. That's what makes Roger's backhand so great, is that he has every shot available to him and can switch to a slice or whatever at the last instant if he wants. That said, it doesn't have the potential to completely trash the opponent like Gasquet's does.
@5e4n Djoko's backhand better than his forehand? What? His forehand is a mass-destruction weapon! Well, nowadays everything on his game is mass-destructive! lol
@delicsasa88 not even close in power, i don't think this can be questioned, Federer has a more flexible wrist, able to do more circus shot backhands, but as a driving weapon, no one-handed backhand is superior to Gasquet. Don't let your favoratism for federer cloud your judgement that he is superior in everything, federer's backhand breaks down under pressure, gasquet's doesn't, gasquet's fh breaks down instead.
gasquet has a better backhand, federer is better at everything else. Don't get so defensive, Federer's the greatest but he's not superman, he can't be the best at everything
The most beautiful backhand of all time. I can watch it all day.
The Richard Gasquet backhand is one of the most beautiful shots in the game.
In my opinion the backhand-return in minute 3:52 is one of the most beautiful shots i ever seen.
wow 102 MPH backhand one handed from a good 10 feet behind the baseline...TALENT
Gasquet backhand + González forehand = world domination
The prettiest BH I have ever seen.
Gasquet is The King of backhand
3:19 whoa, gasquet's backhand is stronger than murray's serve. Nice!!
Dear Santa...This year, I would like a backhand like Richard Gasquet's. Thank you, Santa. Warm Regards, Ted
P.S. That Federer forehand you gave me last year has been working out rather well. I'm kicking some serious butt with that shot.
I'm french and i'm ok with all you say ; his backhand his just awesome. ALLEZ RICHARD ON EST TOUT AVEC TOI !
Wow! Good to see the best one handed backhand played against the best two handed backhand. It would be an interesting match if they play each other again in Wimbledon 2011.
GREAT !!! RICHARD GASQUET HAS A VERY GOOD BACKHAND !!! ONE OF THE BEST, AND MAYBE THE BEST !!!
That is just beautiful
that is unbelivable, brilliant !!!
most players prefer an inside out forehand to a backhand.
gasquet prefers an inside out backhand to a forehand.
Poweful and Beautiful.
It's easier to get more power and control with two-handed....but the one hand sure is a beauty..
Imagine a player with backhand of Gasquet, forehand of Federer, serve of Raonic, passing of Murray, defense and mental strenght of Nadal, physic of Djokovic... omg, that'll be a cyborg. Some years ago, this perfect player was Federer.

This is way back in the days that Murray had still hair...:)
He's still so good to watch. It would be great if he could muster a slam or two. He's doing well at the US Open at the moment...
his backhand is like a sling shot
i like 1 hand backhand. i love Federer and Gasquet ^^
@poopseks Oh, and Boris Becker as well.
really good quality
5:21 What an Angle backhand!!!!
@skatetennis123 murray. i think gasquet's stamina couldn't keep up and he also had some injury issues, which allowed murray to come back and win in 5 sets.
Murray is so cool at 4:48, priceless expression
reaction
yes .I believe Gasquet. have a backhand of the best. I've ever seen .I
@pauloolem i feel like he chokes a lot. he was up 2 sets to love
@pauloolem I don't know, look at the backhands Djokovic did against Nadal in Madrid this year. Those were the sickest backhands i have ever seen in my life, two handed or one handed.
Cool, thanks.
fanatastic!
Welcome back to 2010
i feel bad that murray always feels the wrath of his backhand
102 mph backhand is pretty damn crazy.
@shido534 It doesn't make any sense. I have been watching Djokovic since US Open 2007. @delicsasa88 no, federer never had a backhand close to gasquet's...
@poopseks Nalbandian, Ljubicic, Santoro. Problem?
Is the one handed better than the two handed or is it just down to personal preference?
@poopseks maybe the guy he is playing in this video andy murray as well as nalbandian, davydenko, fish, simon, warwinka, chela, kohlschreiber and rochus to name a few but you are right they are in the minority
@TTFAFF Almost everything about Djokovic's game is better than it was a few years ago, and of course he possesses a powerful forehand. That doesn't mean his backhand isn't noticeably better.
You forgot + Llodra serve and volley + Sampras slam dunks.
@dtv2031, poetic.
fed's backhand is not as good as wawrinka/gasquet, but in my opinion that is what makes him better. @shido534 Ok. You've got a point there. Peace!
@opium1510 Oh, so I guess you've won a Grand Slam title and have been the world #1 junior tennis player and world #7 at some point?
Federer shanks backhands all the time. If he had a backhand like Gasquet or Almagro, maybe Nadal and Murray and now Djokovic wouldn't own him head to head.
"inside-out forehand? fuck that shit."
@DpStankHeals
gasquet has won a grand slam?
i love 2:30 when murray was hoping it was out gasquet's face was pricelss
Come on Gasquet beat Murray! Greetings from England :)
what a missile! 3:53
@poopseks andy murray, david nalbandian off the top of my head..
who won the match, if you can remember
@poopseks mardy fish :D well used to
Gasquet just ran out of gas. what about Justine Henin? :)
The backhand of Moses...
Honestly, I still think Federer has the better backhand. He almost holds it with a continental grip, so he has more options. 5:34!
@5e4n Djoko's backhand better than his forehand? What? His forehand is a mass-destruction weapon!
Well, nowadays everything on his game is mass-destructive! lol
its such a shame he lost this match
but monday revenge on wimbledon !!!!!!
I disagree, you should see Federer's BH when he is under pressure. He starts making a lot of mistakes off that wing, and starts to only use slices
i hope he won... did he?
well Murray won in the end
@TennisAnnalyst you call yourself a tennis analyst with those rankings? how about youzhny, wawrinka, federer, dimitrov...
@poopseks Well Murray's backhand is better than his forehand...
More a Wawrinka Backhand. Gasquet always when the big matches come just isnt able to make that kind of shots he does normally with his backhand.
I think he's technically a lot better than Murray, Murray has great power though and a good serve.
seems like everyone named andy loves to play to gasquet's backhand and get destroyed by it lol (emphasis on a certain andy roddick)
Roger Federer has a one-handed, as do other players on the tour...do you actually watch tennis?
can vvank to these backhands
federers is more elegant, but gasquets is just plain better and looks cool
gasquet has a better backhand, federer is better at everything else. Don't get so defensive, Federer's the greatest but he's not superman, he can't be the best at everything
And his mom.
if gasquet had a half decent forehand he'd be a consistent top 10 player....but too bad his forehand is the shits
Guga 2 '-'
his farkin backhand is better than his forehand, how many pros can you say that about? lol
Andy Murray doesn't like the video :(
one great shot alone, doesnt win you tennis matches though..takes more, than great shotmaking alone, truth be told..
Andddddd he went on to lose the match.
no it is like shit, Roger is the best
Federers backhand is the weakest part of his game.
Only Gustavo Kuerten`s backhand is better than gasquet`s
