I love these old bike race videos. IN a sense, it seemed more pure than todays races, with so much on telemetrics, diets, data, aero, etc. These older races seemed just about the rider and tactics.
Great at 20mins watching Peter van Petegem being pulled up the climbs in the draft of the camera motorcycle 2 metres ahead. 😂 The faster you go, the faster the motorcycle has to go... so you can go faster still. Drafting cameramen finally stopped around 2015.
I keep wishing that they'd give music credits somewhere along the bottom of the screen. Very good music to accompany a bike race. It was already the late 90's so I shouldn't be that surprised by that Kyuss/desert sound, but somebody seemed ahead of their time... All thumbs up!
Watch now-classic races like this. Then compare to the races of today, where the helmet radio rules all. See any difference? By removing so much of the unknown from each racer's ongoing race knowledge, great risks for great rewards, unpredictability and opportunities for courage and panache, are reduced. Radios should be banned from bicycle road racing, except for safety and emergency use.
As described by the words of the late, great Paul Sherwen: @th-cam.com/video/hGNj5Z82aBE/w-d-xo.html; such a situation could not happen today. The classic "chess match on wheels" is diminished as the racing 'fog of war' gives way to mechanistic "efficiency".
Thanks but remove the background monotonous indecisive musak humm would be appreciated. Yeah ... I couldn't take it anymore; stopped watching it 'cause of the annoying hummm
Cyclists have been doping for over a century, the likes of Merckx were on it virtually all the time, got busted four times in an era of hardly any testing, three of those were in big races including grand tours and Fleche Wallone.

"more pure"- ha ! I didnt believe it at the time, but the truth did come out, didnt it ?
@@laszlozoltan5021 Irrlevant if you're referring to use of drugs.. Im talking about simple bikes.
Thank you for posting!!! I love watching these older races.
Good to see MET helmets have been around so long. I love their helmets.
Definitely worth the watch if you're hungry for a good bike race. Liggett and Sherwin also at their best,
Still sad that paul sherwin is no longer on the mike.
Fantastic
@@glennoc8585 very sad.
those two were in on the cover-up, it was their bread and butter. what a shame.
Mapei, one of my top favorite pro road teams but I'm a Cipo fan too.
RIP Paul
Great music addition!!!!
Love those Briko Stingers! Always wanted a pair.

Best kit back then so much advertising bling love it.
Im a fairly young rider and i 100% agree with you. More unique back then.
Awesome ending...
BRASILEIROS NUNCA ESTÃO NESSAS CORRIDAS 👍😎
big ups to whoever decided on the background music.
I feel like I should have seen 17:57 coming but it still got me.
Super
Why do they add the music to cycling videos?

Yup! Certainly not the strongest guy on the day. But very experienced. Knew how to save energy.
At about 28min (Paterberg!) bad music interferes with the commentary. What is it with these classic vids? lol
Rolf
I ride Valaanderen tubs ... I need all the help I can get :o)
you can smell the EPO!! Crank those Watts boys!!
Ridiculous that the beginning credits tell you who wins. If you don't know the historical results of these races, it kills it.
These were VHS tapes made for an audience who did, because the results weren't 'historical'.
time when the bikes were less fragile :)
Moncassin made a big mistake in not cooperating with Ballerini in the chase. Ain't Sorensen the winner, but Moncassin the looser.
Music is annoying
what is with the back ground music... ruins the race

Why did Armstrong bring doping into cycling. So much better, with these non doped riders.
There was doping in cycling long before Armstrong.
@@julianmartin8356 Rolf Sørensen was filled with EPO and Cortison at that moment.

Hahahaha ...... LA certainly didn't bring PED to cycling.
