Phil Liggett at around the 19:10 mark: "So many people in the cycling community asking why the Italians are doing so well this year, and no one has an answer." Watching these videos in retrospect makes me wonder if Liggett already knew the answer and was just being cheeky.
Makes me wonder too, I guess he already had heard rumours and gossip from the inner circle af Cycling community and the peleton about the Italian "wonder doctors" Francesco Conconi and Michelle Ferrari. Remember Miguel Indurain and Team Banesto was Conconi Clients so was Gianni Bugno and Marco Pantani. And Team Gewiss Ballan and Tony Rominger was Michele Ferrari clients.
Re Liggett's comments on Armstrong's form around the 10:40-10:55 mark. What a part this 'concern over form' was to play in the destiny of the sport over the next 20 years.
The spurge of the doping years, so take all this with a grain of salt. RIP Paul, met him and Phil at a crit I was riding in Derby 1987 - nicest blokes ever, and largely responsible for the boom in UK cycling
Bugno had this tendency to celebrate a tad bit soon. He did similar things in Worlds 91 and like here, Rooks almost got him. Actually, it took 10 minutes to decide
The music is a total 90s vibe. Love it.

Sorry ace. if a
Armstrong wasn’t bad. Try riding one of these classics.
Wish there was a version without the music!!
1:30 - I did not know Cillian Murphy raced for TVM.
BTW, Phil... there is no rainbow jersey curse. just ask Sagan
Very close finish!

Sign of the times?: the background music was annoying and obtrusive. Shades of John Tesh. Did it seem so at the time?
Imagine nearly throwing away a monument victory because you want to celebrate ostentatiously. Amazing stuff from Bugno.
Alaphilippe doesn't have to imagine too hard
Good old EPO era...
EPO era?
19.18 We now know the answer to why the Italian riders was superior in 1994. Better doping doctors like Michelle Ferrari and Francesco Conconi.
“The whole world wondering why the Italians are riding so well this year.” Ha! 💊💉🩸
Bugno, Pantani, Bobby Julich, Big Miguel Indurain, Richard Virenque, late 90s were gladiator rules racing. It just wasn't Italian racers.
