I agree that hoka breaks down much quicker than most brands and I've run in mizuno, asics, brooks,NB, Nike, Saucony and Adidas in my 38 years of running. But with my older body and knees I appreciate the softness of their shoes.

I’m currently recovering from a severe flare in my spondylolisthesis. For those who may not know, the disc above my L4 vertebrae is deteriorating quicker than it should. With that being said I used to box and have been a very active person throughout my life and this shoe has been a god send in order for me to get back to where I used to be.
I have a heel to toe stride and this shoe has been the BEST at supporting me on my long jogs. If you have any issues with your body or have the same stride as me I definitely recommend you going to give them a try.

My favorite Clifton yet. Big improvement over the 8. Have about 200 miles on mine and the upper is starting to get a little loose if that makes any sense. (You can look and tell it has 200 miles.)

LOL - on timestamp @5:59 you could clearly see Seth wanted to say "Just buy it for the softness" but then he realized he couldn't say that out loud on camera. Notice the body language becoming defensive after realizing he messed up. @Seth - don't be afraid to tell us that Hoka sponsored this video or your trip to NYC! Don't claim to be unbiased, that would be unethical and unfair to consumer who value your opinion!

My Hoka midsole experience is from the Clifton 6, which also had a soft midsole and little energy return. Eventually the midsole became firmer which improved the ride until the outsole gave out and I retired the shoes at 415 miles.

  • @MaximusTCR

This shoe could be best suited for those who prefer a long run shoe with a stack height that falls between a max cushion shoe and a daily trainer, which is what I was looking for. With that in mind, I feel the weight is fine. I think this shoe decreases my recovery time after a long run probably due to it's midsole softness. I'm very much satisfied with my selection and surprised that you wouldn't recommend it for a long run, but to each their own.

QoD: Ive run in the Clifton 6 and 7 and didn't find either to be particularly soft, just a nice average ride. Got around 500 miles out of them and got them both on sale for 58 bucks so can't complain. Using my second pair of Mach 4s now and have to say that they have held up way better than expected. I'd buy a closet full of them if I could find them.

If you’re a big guy with wide feet, and you’re looking for a shoes for long distance / daily trainer; I cannot find any shoes that perform better than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22. Durable, really wide sole and the midsole doesn’t breakdown.
If you tend to roll your ankle, the Adrenaline has a really stable wide sole. Heavier than most but if you’re a heavy person, it makes little difference

QD: First pair of Rincons around 225.. Dead
    Second pair around 215… Dead
Mach 4 which is one of my favorite shoes 210… Dead
Speedgoat 5… 130 whole shoe dead!

Thanks Seth. My problem with Hoka is the durability of the inside heel section. No foot deformity on either foot, but the lining in that section breaks down after just 200 kilometres, with big holes being present once I reach the 800 kilometre mark. Big Hoka fan, but for this reason now considering a brand change.

I've had a love hate relationship with the Clifton. I've been running in them since the 4 or 5. They were pivotal in getting me past a long term running issue stemming from my back. Unfortunately there are a lot of negatives that have caused me to look elsewhere. The fit and midsole's have been fairly poor for me. The shape of my foot just never quite fits right. It's always just a little bit off (read as narrow). Not enough to buy something else but enough to make it so it's not quite as comfortable as I'd like. The midsoles seem to be bottoming out quicker and quicker these days and the foam just seems to feel dead and not enjoyable to run in anymore. I'm wondering if after running in some more modern and better foams anything EVA just doesn't feel as good. I likely won't buy the Clifton 9 since I've found some other shoes that are a lot more enjoyable to fun in and are more comfortable.

I wear the Clifton 8s for my every day, out and about shoes. They’re very comfy for long hours on my feet. I knew when I wore them to Disneyland once and didn’t have “Disneyland feet”, as my mom calls them, at the end of the day that they were a great shoe.

I have about 125 miles on these so far. Actually ran a half marathon in them. They are not the most durable, I’ll probably get another 100 or so out of them. The toe box absolutely crushed my 5th toe and I had significant blisters during longer runs even after breaking them in. I’ll be switching to a different shoe before I hit higher mileage again. Any recommendations?

  • @Shevock

Interesting. Perhaps they're going for not having a break in time and it backfired in regard to durability.

Can you clarify " daily trainer" what type of run is this. We talk about trainers for easy runs, long runs, tempo runs, threshold runs, intervals, racing. So where does a daily trainer actually fit in?

    • @Scotty.Lincoln
      @Scotty.Lincoln ปีที่แล้ว +2

Basically a daily trainer is a shoe you grab to go for a run in. Basically a shoe you can do easy, moderate and pick up the pace if you wanted. If you are not training for anything and just going out for runs every day. Or if you are training and you can only want one shoe.

QOD: I used to run in Hoka, specifically the Mach and the Rincon. The Rincon were good until about 100 miles or so and then would start to bother my legs and feet. My machs were a struggle to get to 300 and then same issue. I noticed the mid soles would just go flat very quickly, losing their responsiveness. I also noticed the mid soles would start to “pancake” significantly, which also changed the ride. I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Hoka to put more research on their mid soles to increase their durability and energy return. They do make great walking around shoes once retired, as I still use my machs for just everyday errands👍🏻

I got the opposite experience size wise, I tired different pairs in different stores couple of times as I was so unsure whether to go size up or not. On one occasion the size up was right, other time true to size seem to be right. In the end I ordered (because I wanted white) true to size and it tured out too small, so I had to return them.
The lace eyelid seemed far more apart than other running shoes I've had so far, but no probelm with that.

Recently I’ve gone through another pair of Hoka Clifton 8s and they have both lasted me past 400+ miles. With my first pair giving out at 464. With the 8s having a bit more stiffness, you could probably expect the 9s to not have as much life in them after a couple hundred miles. If you have any questions comment below.

QD: I personally don’t run in Hokas but it’s the only thing my boyfriend runs in. He really swears by them, and has run in everything from the Arahi to the Clifton.I think the midsoles of his shoes tend to hold up pretty well, but I do think he wears out the rubber tread quicker and more severely than I wear out mine in the Brooks Adrenalines. He has a pair of the Clift 9s right now with somewhere between 200 and 300 miles on them. They look pretty good and he hasn’t gotten shin splints or anything but I will say I think the rubber is starting to wear down a bit.
