    I'm 63 and have grown up as westernized as they come. Strive for education, success in career, money, social status. Even the religion of my youth was essentially competitive ("ours is best"). And now, all i want to do is drop it all like one big giant weight and move into something else. Retiring later this year in Thailand where I love Buddhist culture. I am so grateful we live in an age where something like youtube brings this delightful teacher and his wisdom into the world. (Beats cat videos, for sure). I feel that the universe has given me a gift by opening my mind to this ancient wisdom.

      I feel the same. I also like native pow wows. They both make me feel closer to god and nature and myself

      There’s a great app by Sam Harris called Waking Up. It was a game changer for me. Try it.

    How can we use meditation to help the body to free itself from diseases? How does the "awarenes" help in this release of disease? Thank you!

    • @kathk3203
      @kathk3203 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I am pretty sure that meditation is to be simply aware of your sensations and not to actually meant for removing any diseases or discomfort. In becoming aware your mind changes, because you are aware that you are not your disease.And you are not your disease. I have heard of things like prayer and positive thoughts are good for healing.

      It's not the goal of meditation. And craving or wanting that would be an obstacle to obtaining it. But in rare cases it can come as a "side effect". There are reports of healing through intensive meditation retreats in Burma... There is a book in English about it actually. I forgot the title. But it's connected to Mahasi Sayadaw, and U Pandita maybe... In any case, meditating, awareness, helps us to deal with pain and with reality as it is. May you be well 🙏❤️

      Ajahn Brahm mentions many cases of people curing illnesses cancers etc.. through meditation. Not because you are meditating on the illness but instead no longer feeding it habitual negative emotion but compassion instead. So things big and small can subside by themselves. 😲😀🧘‍♂️

    It’s too bad the gentleman in the audience didn’t convey the question about having no head correctly. I think what he was referring to is a book by Douglas Harding entitled “on having no head” in which he came to the realization with his eyes open that where his head should be, there is only the world. This is actually quite a deep topic. I would’ve loved to hear rimpoche’s take on this.

      See Chogyam Trungpa's picture on his wikipedia page... the position of the raised arms with the palms facing out to the world, Tibetan symbol that the "I" is the outer. "I" am not an inner me but the inner "I" is the entire world. Similar no? 🧐🤔

    WHAT is SAMANTHA meditation
    WHAT is wipassana meditation
    The difference please

    • @rohinir5059
      @rohinir5059 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Samatha meditation is just having awareness of thoughts, sensation,emotions, objects.
      Vipasana meditation is awareness on breath.
      My suggestion is for beginners samatha is better than vipasana
      Watch goenka videos on vipasana u will get guided meditations.
      I hope u r clear thank u
