    Thanks for taking the time invested to develop fly designs, and then pass, freely, your findings on to people who are able to put the fruits of your labour to use. Predator fly fishermen are massively in debt to you and your generosity...I'm in awe of your focus !

    These videos are so long and yet so interesting and informative. You don't include anything that isn't necessary, and each time I find myself watching the entire video when I initially wasn't planning on it. Keep them coming!

    WOW, what a great video! I haven't tied any flies in probably 40 years, but I met a big bass fisherman here in north Texas who is part of the big swimbait scene. Throwing 8 to 12 inch soft and hard plastic baits for big largemouth. He has an idea to throw a 16 inch "fly" as a more subtle big swimbait presentation. He wants to throw it on conventional baitcasting tackle with a weight of 3/4 to 1 ounce. My idea is to build a wooden core, weighted for slightly negative buoyancy to provide casting weight and to provide a bit of bulk for the fly. So much good info here that I am pretty comfortable giving this concept a try.

    I have been tying Trout & Bass flies for many years. I'm working setting a fly rod up to fish for Musky's & Pike. I have got into tying some big flies and I have been tying some big flies for other guys and some are your flies. I have watched several of your videos and you are awesome young man. I can hear and see the passion you have when tying these big flies. Thank you for the awesome ideas.

    Just got my first fly set up for Muskie fishing, I have always used gear until now. Watching your videos has me really wanting to start building my own flies now. I love watching these instructional videos you do. You explain every step very well and I feel confident I can do this also. Looking forward to watching all of your videos.

    Thank you for demonstrating this fly. I have been looking for a large fly l can use on the Murray Cod here as they grow to over a metre long. I have watched nearly all of your videos and l just want to say thank you for the knowledge you share best wishes from Australia

    The idea is to have fly and leader turning over at similar speed so it feels right when casting. Add weight to bushy fly on the other hand add air resistance to dense fly. Leader formula is important too

    Why not start with a heavier wire hook that weights more like the 8/0 bluewater hook on the table?

  • @hunterrichmond6101
    @hunterrichmond6101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If after using 22" of lead wire to the 6/0 TP610 hook makes it weigh roughly the same as the 8/0 bluewater, why not just tie on the bluewater? Do you need the lead wire to make the fly keel properly? Also, what bobbin is that and do you like using it more than the Rite Mag?

    Another brute of a fly in the books 📚 I am thankful for these 30-60 minute tying videos that you do, breaking everything down to its basic form and building it back up.
    Premade popper heads probably wouldn’t work since they are not perfectly round and too long. Would you use an intermediate line or something else. I have a 10 weight and a Musky Magnum floating line on right now.

    I just found this video. Great demonstration and super cool techniques and flies. You said a couple times it’s almost where you want it but not quite.
    Have you made any changes to the design since you made this video? How did it fish last season?

    Would Big Fly Fiber be a decent substitute for the yak hair, or would it be too soft?

    Just curious if you've ever tried Lexel in place of silicone? It dries absolutely clear and is tougher than silicone. I use it for my caulking needs now intend to test it on flies in place of silicone next chance I get.

      @nat_cross 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely will have to try that. Are you silicon quite a lot and hate how it looks muddy with colored flies.

    Just wondering , when casting a fly that large do you have problems with it parachuting , because from its mass ? And would a 10-11 wt work to cast one ?

    Wow, would this process work in a 6 to 8 inch size work for a pike fly?

    • @nat_cross
      @nat_cross 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It absolutely will work in any size; That's kind of the whole point of weight balancing a fly. You may have to play with the amount of weight you use for the smaller fly.

      You don't know how excited I was to see that you posted this video. Since your very first post of Mark Sedotti's Weight Balanced Yak Slammer, I've been hoping and praying that you post a video on how to make it. Thank you so much for taking the time an effort to figure out this type stuff and then share it freely with us. Your amazing!
