Managing Weeds and a Spring Seeded-Grass Cover Crop in Watermelon

This video highlights some of our research looking at using spring-seeded grass cover crops for weed management in plasticulture vegetables. We started by seeding an oat cover crop in the inter-row areas after the plastic was laid. Both the cover crop and any emerged weeds were managed once the oats reached a desired growth stage. First by simulating roller-crimping with a tractor, then followed by a shielded herbicide application.
