    Didn’t know about pinning the crank and I already pulled the damper off the truck. Thank goodness for this information. Saved my ass. Godbless 🙏

      It is amazing how much rust and corrosion can end up on a damper. One would think because all day long they just spin at a frantic rate,
      No moisture would have time to do its dirty work.

      Rust got mine too. You would think they would put better marks on it

    I think I figured it out ,the introduction picture was marked on the backside of dampener . Appreciate your videos !

    When you pin the crank doesn't the "pin crank" mark on the dampener line up with the mark on the front cover that is top right in the picture and above and a little inboard of the crank sensor? Just like when you line up A, B, C when setting overhead?

    • @ENGINESHOPJOE
      @ENGINESHOPJOE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes It Does and you are correct.
      I wanted everyone to see where that dowl pin was located in relation to the crank sensor hole in the gear housing with the crank pinned.
      Then i unpinned the crank and turned it and put on the damper.
      The yellow reference dot is showing where the dowl pin is at the moment and later in the video the purple arrow shows where it needs to be if the crank were again pinned.
      This exercise was to help the viewers understand how to find that pin on a rusted damper. If you can find just one mark and know its identity you can map out all the rest.

    Neural , I am confused of your introduction picture and that of video picture , location marks appear different .

    Yeah Zoom right in with the pin in place didn't show it where it goes what side of the engine is it got a plug in it who knows right?

      Yes. We should of known better but this was a great "if it can go wrong it will" example

    Currently doing a head job on a twin cam isx, I have the pullers for the cam gears but not a timing kit, am I able to do this job without?

    • @ENGINESHOPJOE
      @ENGINESHOPJOE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. The cams have to be locked and 4.25 and 6 degrees with the crank pinned mechanically. Close does not work on the cam timing.
      By the way the standard timing was 4 inj and 6 valves. We set the 871 inj cam to 4.25 and if we dial indicate the cam it is always right on the money.

    what covers the hole? is it a hex socket?

    • @ENGINESHOPJOE
      @ENGINESHOPJOE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the generation of the engine it can be just a threaded hex drive plug or current engines the fitting the crankcase drain hose clips onto at the block.

    I have a 2004 International 9400i. Engine serial # 079067324 with model code # L942700. Cummins ISX 435ST 453HP. Withe the help of your video I manage to locate the PIN HERE mark as well as the mark on the timming cover. I'm installing a new air compressor but I need to order a PIN tool as described in your video. Found some PIN tools online but they all say for Cummins 2007 and up. My truck is a 2004 and my question to you is this. A PIN tool made for 2007 and up, can it also be used for a 2004 model truck with a Cummins engine. Let me know I would greatly appreciate it. Thank much for your video.

      THe pin tool for the crankshaft is the same on all ISX engines from 1998 to present as of the writing of this in 2024. There is a green band on the tool. It should just be inside the edge of the hole so you cant see it looking straight down. Then it is fully seated in the crankshaft.

    Does the pin need to be taped in or does it go right in

    • @ENGINESHOPJOE
      @ENGINESHOPJOE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pin is in the nose of the crankshaft it stays there by press fit. it is just for alignment purposes. so if it was gone you just line up the pin hole in crank and damper and your good to go

      I was thinking you were asking about the alignment pin in the crankshaft where the damper bolts on. The crank lock pin is a tool that is inserted through a hole in the cylinder block and once in the crank wont move. THat pin is a service tool one purchases for camshaft timing when the gear train is removed or the cam is removed/replaced.
