The problem with Starfinder is that there is way too much going on (which is also the problem with Pathfinder) and the layout of the rulebook is terrible. The rules are presented in a haphazard way, and it is not at all user friendly. New GM's and Players get lost and give up. I like the game, and have a lot of years behind me with various RPG's, but it is a hard sell to get folks to buy in.
I agree. Starfinder has sooooo much to love! Why it isn't a larger media property is beyond me. That being said, the game feels a bit cobbled from PF1e. I think it needed a few more passes to streamline it a bit more. It is too much, and the scaling damage isn't something that works with a gun based game. I'd love to see the setting away from the rules. That will never happen though.
The book was not user friendly, the rules surrounding the item/credit economy were not fun and punished the players for no real reason other then to show how little Paizo understands economics, the Pact Worlds setting is perhaps the worst science fiction/science fantasy setting I've seen in ages, and the adventure paths were pretty much trash for most of the run. There's a lot of reasons why people are hard to convince.
I've been following the releases since the beginning so know whats what, but can see how the system could be difficult to pick up, since the rules are spread out amongst the various books. Still, you get enough in the core book to run it. Everyone I've introduced to Starfinder instantly loves the mashup of tech and space fantasy.
Does this replace the current core book, or is this more like "if not in here, see core rulebook for those rules" (i.e., a "glorified errata" that only changes parts of the CRB)?
It's essentially a player character options book with some revamped classes, new species, gear, some optional rules, etc. It's certainly not a replacement for the core nor is it an errata book. ~ Jeff
I know, I know, pronunciation yada yada yada. But, this is a real language, not fantasy names. Lol. Plus, everyone has heard of Ludvig van Beethoven So, 1, Ludwig: say it LOOD-vig. Yes, the w is a v. And 2, Neuschwanstein is pronounced (get ready, lol) Noy-SHVAHN-shtine. Put that in your smoke and pipe it. Lol. Love your show. I know how you are about pronouncing things.
