Thank you for the lesson on ballasting a layout. Up to now, I’ve never had a proper set of model boards. I have them now and will ballast my next layout when I finally make it. I’m not doing that until I actually move home.
Now is the time then to do your design and planning and buy what you will need. This stuff can add up but if you spread it out over several months or even years it is less painfull.

I might not be a lover of all things American, but I love the trains you run!! My own layout will depict Ongar Station and around 500 yards outside, but including the yard and shed.

Great! I have about 6 new Switches to Ballast. Always having Conductivity issues around point rail pivots. I need to get a couple of those long skinny Droppers. Mine is too thick of a tube and 2” too short. Meant for mini basting.
Point rail pivots can be a pain to fix if they get paint or glue in them. Try a shot of alcohol in there and work it a bit but if that fails then a thin flexible wire jumper soldered to the outside of the rails across the gap is the only fix I know of.
@@TheDCCGuy I spray Deox-IT on them. Cleans out, restores and protects. I’ve wedged flat metal spades in between rails to bridge power or solder jumper wires from good power side to dead side, going under the Base. I have a 100 Disposable Pipettes coming. Will make it easier to Not short or insulate contacts with glue. Thanks for showing that!
Larry, this may sound crazy but I just finished two small yards and after about 40 years of doing this I found an old mustard bottle (squeeze type) will apply a correct amount of fine ( woodland scenics) ballast. I don't have any on ties or sides of rail.
For 50 years I have left my turnouts unballasted. Thank you for showing me a way to do them.

Great video, instead of the brush end I have seen a metal spoon used to lightly tap the rail heads to remove the ballast from the ties and rail sides.

I am a firm believer in masking tape.
Larry, what was the trade name of the ballasting glue that you used? Excellent video.
Mod Podge matte diluted with water and a few drops of detergent.

I assume you mean the plastic ones like I use for glue? Sounds like something I need to try.
Yep. That's what I use. Works great. BTW I just use a sprayer to dampen the ballast before I put my glue on. Again, works just fine.
Hi Lary say you know ir you take a steel spoon and tape lt on the top of the rail the baliiast ok.
