Yep. Racism and discrimination. Are these immigrants willing to learn their languages and respect their culture? Are they going to build a separate community? Are they bringing any skills? I doubt it because if they were, they’d go to a neighboring middle eastern country and get a job. They’re only choosing the UK for the free handouts.

Theres some kind of economic deal. They take migrants and the UK invests and subsidises it, so the UK tax payer will still pay, but it will be a case of "out of site, out of mind" -less foreign faces getting the Brits all rattled!!! It may have its benefits to Rawanda, if refugees who also have professional qualifications settle there and reinvest, and strengthen the skills pool, therefore strengthening the economy. But I dont believe they will have the open doors policy they're professing they will. Some people will be dealt with harshly and who will be scrutinizing? Where ever there is mass migration to a foreign place, where those migrants dont have their own means to access resources, they become a financial burden on that region. Unless there is industry there to exploit the influx of cheap/slave labour, I dont see what's in it for Rwanda.

A refugee is not a tourist. They should not be given a brochure, from which to select their favourite destination.
A genuine refugee needs to escape to a safer place. Rwanda is this place.
Nowhere is perfect. However, a safe haven to help them escape from their "hell", is a blessing.

The Sky News journalist is incorrect. Asylum seekers do not have the legal right to seek asylum in any country they want. They are obligated to seek asylum in the first safe country of passage if internal flight is not an option. If asylum seekers have clearly excused themselves of this obligation and are in fact "asylum shopping", assumedly for the purposes of economic migration, then the receiving country is within its right to turn them away. This is outlined in the UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and Yolande Makolo is right to correct her. The majority of asylum seekers arriving in the U.K. (and here in Canada as well) are "asylum shoppers" or "benefits shoppers" having passed through safe destinations to get to the U.K. The U.K. is not obligated to take these people and it's not illegal for the U.K. to send them to another country if that country has agreed to take them especially if that country is also a signatory the the UN Convention which Rwanda is.
