With the Tren de Sóller to Sóller and Port de Sóller - Excursion in Mallorca

- We take the train from Palma to Sóller and continue by tram to Port de Sóller. The journey with the historic Tren de Sóller - also called the Red Lightning or Orange Express - takes us right through the Serra de Tramuntana.

Today we want to go to Sóller and Port de Sóller. And the best way to get there is by the historic Tren de Sóller, called the Red Lightning by tourists and the Orange Express by locals. The train line was built over 100 years ago and runs 27 kilometres from Palma de Mallorca on a picturesque route across the Serra de Tramuntana. The train passes through 13 tunnels on the route - which it covers at a leisurely crawl at a maximum speed of 30km/h. The longest of these tunnels is almost 3km long. The longest of these tunnels is almost 3 kilometres long. After arriving in Sóller, we have a bite to eat before continuing by tram to Port de Sóller. The fact that this tram line exists at all is due to a Spanish law: subsidies are only granted for railway lines over 30 kilometres long. The route of the Tren de Sóller from Palma to Sóller is 27 kilometres too short for this. So it was extended by the tramway to Port de Sóller to reach the required length.
In Port de Sóller we stroll leisurely through the harbour, enjoy an orange ice cream at Fet a Sóller (a must!). The ice cream is made from oranges from the Sóller valley and is incredibly delicious!) and enjoy the view over the bay of Port de Sóller, which forms a huge, natural harbour.
We return to Sóller by tram, of course, where we visit the church "Sant Bartomeu de Sóller" and take a short tour of the town before returning to Palma by red lightning.

Da ich nächste Woche nach Mallorca fliege, kann man das alles irgendwo vor Ort als Tagesausflug buchen?
Du kannst die Kombitickets direkt vor Ort kaufen. "Ferrocarril de Sóller" in Palma, nahe der Plaça d'Espanya. 😃
Hallöchen, bekommt man diesen ausflug innerhalb 4std hin? Unser hotel ist nicht in palma weshalb wir einen halben tag palma und den rest des tages uns soller anschauen möchten.
Mit dem Zug nicht. Nein. Das wird - wenns überhaupt reicht - extrem knapp. Die Zugfahrt von Palma nach Soller dauert ungefahr ne Stunde. Dann umsteigen ca. 30-40 Minuten mit der Bahn von Soller nach Port de Soller. Da müsstet ihr direkt wieder zurück fahren und nur wenn dann die Anschlüsse passen (was meistens nicht so wirklich der Fall sein dürfte), klappts gerade so in 4 Stunden. Was ihr macht könntet, wäre, dass ihr auf dem Rückweg mit dem Auto von Palma nach Soller fahrt und von dort nur mit der Straßenbahn von Soller nach Port de Soller, bisschen bummelt und zurück. Das müsste gehen. Wo seid ihr denn untergebracht?
Palma lohnt auf jeden Fall auch für nen ganzen Tag. La Seu, Markthalle, Altstadt, Tapas essen, etc. ;-) Und von verschiedenen Regionen wird Soller auch als kompletter Ausflug angeboten: Bspw. mit dem Bus nach Sa Calobra, von dort mit dem Schiff nach Port de Soller und mit der Bahn über Soller nach Palma und von dort mit dem Bus zurück zum Ausgangspunkt. So oder so ähnlich gibt es verschiedene Ausflüge. 🙂
Fährt die Bahn auch im März?
Soweit ich weiß, fährt der Zug theoretisch ganzjährig. Wobei Renovierungs- und Sanierungsarbeiten in den Winter gelegt werden und dann der Zug manchmal ein paar Wochen ausfällt. Aber das ist eher im Januar und Februar der Fall. Einfach vorher hier: trendesoller.com/deu/Index nachschauen. Da sollte das kommuniziert werden.
