  • 🎼 TABS, SCALE MAPS + LESSONS 👉 / quistjam Here's a head-bopping medium swing jazz practice backing track for improvising on the classic minor 2-5-1 progression - in C Minor.
    Check out this awesome jazz guitar lesson by Matt Warnock, which features 5 cool Altered scale licks in Cm: goo.gl/BfvJM2
    And here's a Jazz blues in A minor you can try out as well: goo.gl/WJGMcj Please SHARE... HAPPY JAMMING!
    Chord progression:
    II: Dmin7b5 I G7 I Cmin7 I Cmin7 :II
    On the track, you will hear extensions of these chords - as is common in jazz of course :)
    Scale suggestions:
    C minor scale - C D Eb F G Ab Bb (C)
    (Dmin7b5 chords and Cmin7 chords)
    C harmonic minor scale - C D Eb F G Ab B (C)
    (G7 chords)
    Basic arpeggios:
    Dmin7b5 arpeggio = D F Ab C
    G7 arpeggio = G B D F
    Cm7 arpeggio = C Eb G Bb
    Next up, try out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (G7) by treating it as an altered chord and using the altered scale:
    G altered scale - G Ab Bb B Db Eb F (G)
    The altered scale is the mode which starts on the 7th step of the melodic minor scale, so in other words - the 7 notes of the G altered scale are the same as those of the Ab melodic minor scale :)
    Here's a minor 2-5-1 lick you can try transposing to C minor (just shift it down two frets)

    I don't know if you already have, but it would be great if you could post one of these 13 minute long jazz backing tracks with call and response (obviously leaving the response part for us!).
    Been jamming along with this on the piano, love it.

    • @NeilDoyle92
      @NeilDoyle92 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Keibee Votran He's just playing octaves, Wes Montgomery style. Looks a little more complicated when you're playing notes on the D and G strings because the octave is 3 frets away instead of 2 so you have to use your pinky.

    I'm sorry but in the description you have (G altered scale - G Ab Bb B Db Eb F (G), wouldn't the technical grammar be (G Ab Bb Cb Db Eb F (G), because you have Bb and B in there and they are the same notes but for grammatical purposes shouldn't it be Cb? I hate to be "that guy"

    • @CharlesHerrenbruck
      @CharlesHerrenbruck 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +tloadin1 My reasoning, which is very fallible, could be that it is from a modified locrian scale, but without the fourth scale degree and instead a raised third as well as the natural third. this is similar to something like the blues scale. 1-3-4-b5-5-etc.. But like i said, i could be very wrong here
