  • If your legs are often tricked by deceptive shots. this video will help you.
First I'll explain why this happens.
Then, here's what you need to do to solve the problem
    1) Push yourself to take every shuttle (and let your muscle memory and reflexes work their magic)
    2) Work on your agility
    3) Maintain a stable upper body

OMG for me this video is right on point! For years I attributed inability to get around the court quickly enough to lack of fitness. It turns out fitness was a factor but the bigger problem is that I have terrible footwork! Plus I use the upper body far too much just like the guy towards the end of this video at 2:56!
Changing these bad habits after decades is proving very difficult but I will persevere and this great video gives me some useful visual memories to take onto the practice court.
    Thank you very much.

    • @Bgbadminton
      @Bgbadminton  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Glyn, I know right! A lot of students asked this so I figured we should make a short clip. If you look at retired players, a lot of them aren't fit at all, but they really move around the court!
So turns out it's a combination of solid footwork and very good habits.
Let me know if you're having any difficulty and I'll try and help you out! Peace
      - Gerald

I remember in a tournament. I was exhausted. the guy, I was against did a amazing backhand reverse slice drop. I saw it I knew it was gonna fall in the front. I was fairly closer to the net. my legs wouldn't move so I just fell forward and reached it. I got the point, the guy assumed I wouldn't get the shuttle and didn't get back in position so it's a mental thing just train yourself to get every shuttle even if you get stuck just try to reach the shuttle however possible don't think abt the proper step in the game

After being deceived and as explained here, your footwork or moves that comes after that is more a recovery attempt to give you all the possible chance to still be in the game. Very little chances that you're likely be in control or in a position to give that offensive pressure against your opponent.
When confronting a very deceptive player, other than the importance of knowing all the requirements in your quest to develop that necessary speed in your footwork in your attempt to make that recovery moves, it's also important to train yourself on how to make your footwork and use it as an offensive moves when your opponent goes into a deceptive mode.
One must understand that it's likely that all type ofl deceptive moves requires a player to create a convincing scenario to "sell" his deceptive moves first and if the opponent "buys" that scenario and only then the outcome of those subsequent deceptive moves could be very effective.
If you can avoid being sold when those scenarios presented to you then youre likely won't be deceived. The key to this is to always have a clear mental awareness and your vision should fix on the birdie, not your opponent racket, body and especially forearm/wrist movements. Always be bouncy by being on top of your toes rather being flat footed when preparing yourself to retrieve any hits. You also need to slightly bend your knee when on your stance so that there will be room for your lower legs to grip and propel yourself for a fast reaction. Your racket head also must always be optimally high so that to better your chance to address those birdie at its earliest opportunity.
    Good luck

For more stability when lunging (more coming up):

For more explosive strength in your leg, this workout could be a part of your training:

Yes, for real! It's the *Mindset* of pushing yourself to take every shuttle. Sounds simple, but lots of students I've met aren't really giving it their all when retrieving the shuttle.
Here's a bonus mindset tip! Think counter attack, rather than just taking the shuttle. This mindset will force you to not only take the shuttle, but to create opportunities with difficult shots.
      Good luck Jeyanth!
