On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Medford OR on 7-25-24.
We're looking at a 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 in Candy Apple Paint.
The car comes with the 428 CI Cobra Jet V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is John Warren. John’s had this car since 2002. John shares he had a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang, however he remembers years ago looking at a magazine, and in the middle of it was a two-page magazine ad featuring a Red 1969 Shelby Mustang and he thought that was the most beautiful car he had ever seen. When he found this one it needed a restoration and didn’t look like it does today, but after the restoration, it looks just like that car in the magazine ad. Way to stay focused John on getting your Red 1969 Shelby Mustang!

WOW! What a great car!. Love Boss and Shelby Mustangs!
"Love Boss and Shelby Mustangs!" NICE!
Acapulco blue ['70] was a car my Dad had during my 11 th grade days--while my Boss 302, ['70] was in the shop; I drove this jewel for two weeks and really liked the roll bar inside the cabin. I hit the pedal more than a few times and always was in awe of the speed it attained and the luxury aspects of the Shelby. That wood on the interior gave her a modicum of class. The 428 v-8 was just great; these are memories which are priceless.

The owner didn’t have to apologize for the exhaust being on the quiet side. That is the way a V-8 is supposed to sound, not the artificial snap crakle & pop volume controlled noise maker you get with a modern vehicle. Great car!
Hi Todd, Thanks for sharing what you notice and heard on this "Great car!", Lou
Stunning '69 Mustang Shelby GT 500. John spent many years restoring this baby and his attention to detail really shows. Can't go wrong with Candy Apple Red either. What a beautiful location as well. Those taillights were actually 1965 Thunderbird units! Thank you, John and Lou for sharing this classic Ford with us! God bless.
Hi Scott, Happy to read you enjoy this "Stunning" car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. Thank you for sharing, and blessings received. God bless you too. Lou

That is one sharp car, Lou. And well maintained.
Hi J. Liberty, Happy to read "That is one sharp car" :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
😅
This 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 looked fantastic in the sun with that Candy Apple paint! The yellow stripe that runs across the sides of the body is a perfect match, and highlights its chrome details, such as those beautiful five-pointed rims. I also love those additional air intakes (NACA ducts) on the hood and sides, along with the slender rear curve of the body, imitating a spoiler. Beautiful black interior, with wood details on both the instrument panel and doors; in addition to its sporty three-panel perforated steering wheel, and the elegant automatic shifter with its Cobra logo and, of course, the signature of "Carroll Shelby" in the glove box. Excellent, the old magazine in the trunk, with the same model and color that appears on the cover. That 428 CI Cobra Jet V8 made its rectangular central exhaust pipe roar! Finally, it was a fantastic ride down that winding country road, with the imposing mountains and dense forests in the background. Congratulations to Mr. Warren for completing this impressive restoration and getting his dream car! Cheers, Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you. Enjoy reading the details you notice. Cheers, Lou
Excellent restoration. Great color. And that exhaust actually sounds like a racecar.
Happy to read the details you notice and enjoy :-)
Thanks!
Hi Bob, SUPER THANK YOU FOR THE SUPER THANKS! You're welcome. I appreciate your support, Lou
Beautifully restored GT500 Lou. A/C was an option on all GT500s from 67 through to 70 😁
Hi lyonheart84 exotic fruit growing, Happy to read you enjoy the restoration of this car :-) Lou
Only automatic transmissions, you could opt for the A/C. That includes the 1965-1966 Shelby
GT350’s.
Lou one of my favorites. Great year for Ford. 1969. Can’t wait until you find a Ford Cobra Torino. 428 a rare car as well. Great video ! 💯💕👊👍
Hi Terry, Happy to read "one of my favorites" :-) If you type into "My Car Story with Lou Torino" I think you'll like some of the cars you see. Think you'll enjoy this one, Lou th-cam.com/video/twkvo8jQoss/w-d-xo.html

Good Job
Louis!!!!!
WOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy to receive a "WOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" from you :-)
Lovely beast! Thanks for sharing Lou.
NICE! You're welcome Chuck.
The standard 3.00 rear axle was for cruising fast. The later models were also equipped with the anti-theft column lock key switch. It was mandatory for 70' models by government regulations. I remember seeing a 428CJ in a 69' Galaxy XL 500. Also a 429 CJ in a 69' Cobra Jet Torino. Same red as this Mustang. Candy apple red. Smooth engine. Great video guys! Happy Holidays everyone!

Neat car! It's always been so interesting to me that Ford had 427s, 428s and 429s that were completely different from each other. I believe that Ford started using the air pumps on the hot 390s and up as standard to help cut costs on making 2 separate emissions packages for those sold in California vs federal, for 69. My cousin had a 69 Mach1 but the 351 didn't have it. His friend had the 390 version, and it did have the pump. And this featured car is loaded. Fold down rear seat, tilt away wheel, a/c, am/fm, auto, and more. $5600 was a very expensive car in 69.
Hi Adam, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Cousin and his Friend's cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
that car is somewhat rare lou, and this one is a fine example. thanks for letting us see this american muscle.

Hi Larry, Thanks for sharing. You're welcome, Lou
Love the 69 & 70 Shelby Mustangs especially either in grabber blue or grabber orange and doesn't matter if its a GT350 or a 500 manual or auto.
Hi FLYBOY409, Happy to read you "Love" this model car. Good news! Here is the Grabber Blue one for you to enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/JGIAzVLI7CM/w-d-xo.html
@@loucostabile Thank you so much these grabber colors always keep getting my attention.
Oh, my, Lou! That is my favorite Mustang ever. Everything about that car is superb. Once owned a 1969 coupe (non-fastback) and loved that car. But the Shelby really is stunning in the front end. You continue to amaze us each week with your offerings! Thank you, Lou!
Hi ultraviolet tp, "That is my favorite Mustang ever." We have the Mustang WINNER! NICE! You're welcome, Lou

🙋♂️THANKS LOU,JOHN FOR SHARING THIS”SPECIAL “ 🚘 AND THE BEAUTIFUL DRIVE 🤩🤗💚💚💚
My pleasure sharing this ride with you :-) You're welcome Budget Audiophile Life-long
Wow! Simply fabulous!!!
High praise.
In a time when we did not pay any attention to gas consumption, this was truly an American GT car that one could hop in and drive coast to coast without having to stop and repair every thousand miles. Ergonomics were strange to say the least in the cabin. I agree with another comment that the last thing I would want in a car of this capability would be allowed intrusive exhaust. Why? Imagine driving 8 to 12 hours in a day and having to listen to a loud exhaust the whole time . Lou, your video technique continues to improve, and thank you for highlighting this beautiful car for us.
Hi LoveIsAll, My pleasure sharing this "beautiful car" with you :-) You're welcome. I appreciate you sharing the videos are improving. Thanks, Lou
@@loucostabile Over the past 5+ years your channel has brought me so much joy. Oh, there are bunches of creators who feature high performance cars of various vintage. No, what I love about your channel, Lou, is when you showcase cars that everyday people could enjoy, including this beautiful Shelby. What I don't watch here is 'restomod' cars and that stuff, but that's just my taste. I look forward to every issue you release, and best wishes from the Houston/Galveston area!
Ahoy big bro Lou!!! This one is such a pleasure for ol' JV Johnny to view as he recovers from a flu like virus that has kicked my ass for well over a week 🤪! Feeling better the past couple of days, doe. God willing this 1st Day of Advent I continue to be "on the mend", like the good Roman Catholic former altar boy I am (tho a wiseass one loving to flop my sneakers on and off my stocking feet while on the altar as a 12 year old boy lol 😜), right down to my tubesocked stocking feet sticking through this blanket as I sit here. My boys? Well, those floppy sneakers have 100% left my apartment in Brooklyn and have gleefully joined you guys BOMBING your way up the mountain in that glorious red Shelby. My God, that Mustang is a thing of raw mechanical beauty, Lou. Just stick your hand out and pluck my boys from the side, maybe put 'em around the rear view, no? A working class baseball loving guy thing to do, no doubt. That Oregon country road is gorgeous and magnificent, man. I can smell the pines, you know? So beautiful. I'm a huge fan of these '69 Mustangs and this one warmed my heart as I regain my strength here. Thanks big bro! JV Johnny ⚾⚾
Hey JV Johnny, Happy to read you're feeling better. Glad this mountain ride with fresh pine smells brings healing. Stay strong my man, Lou
Nice. I'm more of a Boss guy but this is a winner.
Happy to read "this is a winner" :-)
Superb machine! One detail: The tail lights were actually a holdover from the '68 Shelby and the overall housing goes back to the '64 T-bird. The Cougar used it too with a different lens. Creative parts sharing!
Hi apexerman1, Happy to read "Superb machine!" :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou

I have a survivor blakc jade 69 Gt 350 4
speed manual with low mileage. Just love driving it. Great car.
Sounds like a great car :-)
I was a few years from driving age in 69' but was an avid car fan. My 2 favorites for 69' was the Mach 1 and Chevelle SS 396. GTO Judges also had my attention. I wasn't even looking at the 69' Road Runners but ended up being the first car I bought several years later.
Sounds like good memories have come back of fun cars in your past :-)
Absolutely love this marvelous
High praise.
Sounds good.
Happy to read you enjoy the sounds from this car :-)
Love this car as my first car was a 69 Mach 1 that I couldn’t store and keep due to money constraints!👍 it was a 351 Windsor 3 speed, jade green with white interior. I know own a 2007 mustang gt with under 12k on it! Thanks for this video!👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Keith, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Slick machine!
Nice :-)
Great car. I owned #496 back in the 90's and sold it for 20 grand. It was also red, with an automatic. I bought it from Gregory Sierra the actor (Barney Miller, Papillon...). He also owned two 1969 convertibles!

👍🔥😎🔥👍
:-)
The 69 and 70 never seem to get quite as much love as the earlier Shelby built cars, but I really love these 69-70 years. Maybe even more than the purist Shelby built vehicles. Based on maybe the greatest Mustang body style, though the 68 was also gorgeous. Tough call between those. They are all great really, but these years they are every bit as trick as the earlier cars, maybe even more so.
Hi S K, Happy to read "I really love these 69-70 years." :-) NICE!
Nice car

@@loucostabile alright
What can I say ? SuperFab ! Lou are you ever given the chance to drive any of these cars you do videos on ?
Hi David, Happy to read "SuperFab" :-) When CARetakers ask if I'd like to drive their car, and I usually take them up on the offer. Sometimes in the video you'll se toward the end I'm driving them, like in this video, Lou th-cam.com/video/JGIAzVLI7CM/w-d-xo.html
@loucostabile Thanks Lou 👍
428 s were better mannered for the street vs. The ford 427, though the 427s had more gitty - up. I 🤔 think. Another beauty from B 🍼 . Lou. 😅
Hi Big Hank, Happy to share this well mannered 428 Cobra Jet with you :-) Lou
Love the 69 Shelby. I'm a big Mustang fan. I've owned three, but not a Shelby.
Hi Tom, Happy to read "Love the 69 Shelby" :-) Glad to read you've had three fun Mustangs too, Lou
Looks awesome but reminds me of a Javelin and a Camaro and a Cuda
Hi ManiaMusicChannel, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Most people don't understand the plastic components, which are SMC, not fiberglass. Hood, fenders, decklid, lower front valance, side scoops, and 1/4 extensions. Also, in addition to the black hood stripes and front spoiler, the carburetor and distributors were replaced to meet 1970 emissions for the 789 cars converted to 1970 models.
If you own one of these rare vehicles or do videos about history....you should have some knowledge first.
Hi John, Actually, people like you who can share, keep sharing your knowledge. I'll keep doing the videos. Hmmm, works out rather well that way :-) Stay well, Lou
he can choose to know or not know about the history of the car as much of as not much thats not your concern
No seatbelt law in Oregon?
....I only go to visit, so I'm not sure.
😍😍😍😍😍😍

Boa tarde pessoal!
MUITO legal!
Pessoal os carrros antigos como vai ficar tem um zum zum de que podem ser proibido a circulação ou com algumas restrições pra uso?
É porque tenho um opala 75!
Isso no brasil!
Hi Luiz, "Personally, how can old cars be checked if they may be prohibited from circulation or have any restrictions for use?" When a car is sold, there is a time you can get parts. So you need to keep up on the parts. Happy to read you have a fun car an 1975 Impala :-) Hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you enjoy.
