      Do you choose your own loads?

    • @truckertoddllc
      @truckertoddllc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sort of that's actually a fairly complicated question. Technically I'm dispatched but I work directly with the planners and tell them where I would like to go and things like that and I can always turn down any load offers I don't like. They are beta testing a load board and hopefully it will be up and running in the coming months. I'm supposed to be a beta tester pretty soon on that as well. They also have a macro you can send that will give you up to three available loads in your area and you can pick which one you want or decline all of them

    Well, I’m glad you’re doing well and I’m enjoying what I’m doing. I average my take-home around 1700 a week and I only work five days a week. I sleep in my own bed and I have my weekends off. I get three weeks paid vacation at 55 hours a week, I get overtime after 40 and an additional eight hour holiday pay on five different holidays. Total gross last year was $134,000. That was before taxes. But the best part is I’m home with my family. I drive my truck 10 to 12 hours a day delivering fuel and I’m home every night. I don’t have to buy myself a job, I don’t have to go broke if something goes wrong with that truck and it’s a major expense that will empty your fuel And maintenance fund to zero and you’ll be in the negative. I won’t have to stay out for 6 to 8 weeks because I have a truck payment. But if that makes you happy, enjoy that lifestyle. OTR is not on my bucket list anymore. Been there done that.

    • @truckertoddllc
      @truckertoddllc  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This video is about 2.5 years old. I saved up enough buddy to pay cash for my own truck and began running the spot market. I also don’t stay away from home for multiple weeks at a time either. It’s been been years since I stayed out 6 to 8 weeks.

      Yes, you are technically correct. There's not a trim package. You can order for a truck that is called owner operator spec. This is just a nickname that companies have come up with for a truck. Typically companies will say that they have company spectrucks and then the fancier trucks. They will call owner operator spec. But as I stated that's just a nickname

    • @truckertoddllc
      @truckertoddllc  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not a traditional load board. It’s an in-house load board with solo over the road dry van freight. They also determine which loads go on there, it’s a very small percentage of swifts overall freight. Several guys have told me that they have booked loads on there and had the loads taken away from them and given to other drivers. Sometimes there’s a few loads to choose from on there, and sometimes the pickings are few. Almost everyone knew that was driving for Swift has since left them because the load board was not what they thought it was going to be. Even the beta testing that I did for them is much different than what their current iteration is.

    99% of videos I can’t understand or comprehend what they’re saying because of the overall slang and sentence fragments combined with the yelling.
    Be advised a lot of those folks are only looking for the referral fee. Be careful of the propaganda in the transportation/ logistics occupation.
    Swift catches a lot of flak in the field. However, there are many different types of trucking. What works for one, may not work for another. There are plenty of veteran drivers at Swift.

If you don't want their forward-facing camera, you have to get your own insurance and your truck is governed at 68 on the cruise and 70 on the pedal. Also during that break down you're going to have a driver that will want breakdown pay in a hotel and all kinds of stuff. For the most part yes. There's no question the economy right now is in a weird place but many analysts expect a big improvement in the coming weeks. I prefer to be on The cutting edge of when things happen and not to be a follower. Many people will want to come once the economy rebounds but at that time it may be difficult to get a truck. Right now you can get a truck with no money down but we've already been told that will change in the near future. So it's cheaper to come now and you'll be here when the economy improves in a few weeks if the analysts are correct and even if they are wrong, I'm still doing good here right now so it is possible to succeed even in these tough times

I have my truck on with a very good company only drive in the south east states of the USA home every weekend and my company don't deal with any broker loads they only deal directly with the customer
    I would never lease a truck through a truck company. the best way own a truck just go to a dealer lease a truck from any truck company is a big scam never do it
    because if you get fired and the truck not paid off the truck stays with the company and lose all the money paid in into it and in the long run the lease truck price is way more than at a truck dealership I'm hopping in a year or less I will buy a newer truck at a dealership
    I have my eye on a 2019 western star that is forest green and fully loaded was just over $95,000 now its $85,500 that was a month age it was just over $95,000 I might wait to paid off 2 bank loans then get a bank loan to buy a newer truck

      It is. But my concern would be after taxes and insurance you'd be hardly making more than a company driver, Its what stops me from Lease op. I average about 12 to 1500 a week. I dont wanna lease just to make another 500 a week. That dispatcher, Id have to trust to give me enough good loads and depending on others is what bothers me lol

    • @truckertoddllc
      @truckertoddllc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I Average about $2,500 a week which is a thousand a week more than you. But even if our pay was identical, at the end of the lease I've got a truck that I could sell, and you have nothing. I also have tons of tax deductions available to me that you don't have. I'm not saying it's for everybody, and if you're happy being a company driver then stay a company driver. You say that I'm hardly making more than you but I'm making somewhere around $50,000 a year more than you and to me that's more than hardly nothing. Also you mentioned dispatchers, here I deal directly with the planners and I'm also supposed to be beta testing a load board and at my last job I ran 87 load boards and selected my own loads, so I'm not relying on a dispatcher for anything really

      It depends on if you take their optional forward facing camera or not. If you take the camera it's 70 on the cruise and 72 on the pedal. If you don't take the camera it's 68 on the cruise and 70 on the pedal. But I would recommend you never achieve those speeds. When possible I do 60 mph to maximize fuel economy. Their fuel surcharge here is very good and you can make great money if you can control your fuel cost

      That's kind of a tough question to answer based on the limited information I have available to me. For example, i don't know what kind of freight you will be hauling or what your goals are? But generally speaking, I would focus more on revenue instead of how many miles you run. Ideally, you want to run the least amount of miles you can for the most amount of revenue

      Yes but admittedly they're not great. I recommend getting an outside fuel card and I will be promoting one very soon. If you use the Swift comdata card oftentimes your best discount will be at the terminals. At the big five truck stops they offer a nickel off of cash price, which is not significant in my opinion but it is better than nothing. One way they make up for this though is that their fuel surcharge is much higher than most other companies

    How much should a lease operator put aside for taxes?

      I generally try to avoid tax questions because it really depends on a lot of things such as what state you live in and how many deductions do you have and things like that. Generally speaking you want to save anywhere from 15 to 30% but as I said it could vary greatly on a number of factors. One thing you can do is once you start getting quarterly estimates from your tax accountant you can save according to those quarterly estimates. For example if there is 12 weeks and a quarter and your tax advisor recommends you pay $2,400 quarterly then you would want to save about $200 a week or possibly a little more just to be safe
