I have two of these, one I converted over with a Jensen speaker and that really made a difference. You can't go wrong for the price value and a great tube amp sound.

@SoftserveSodium I bought a pair of them. Jensen Special design, on the rim it's marked C12R80, mad in Italy. It's a cream color with red lettering.

@@BryanClark-gk6ie I would say it gets it close to the sound. It starts to break up around 5 or 6. Anything above 6 You're into break up. Overall it picked up the highs and the mids better, it does not have the low range that a Princeton does. However it's not bad. I think it really just enhances that amp overall and makes it sound much better and playable. I own a 1964 Princeton and there is nothing like them.

I also swapped the 70-80 with a Jensen P12Q and I plugged a NUX MG300 in the FX loop both send and return. If I drive the amp and it has a JCM800 in the loop ...oh man it's a crime. The Deluxe Reverb also sounds good. But the reviews on yt don't show these things.

For the price, it's a decent tube amp. You can always swap out the tubes and speaker. I bought this amp when monoprice had a sale for $237 + free shipping.

As stated already, sound of this amp in your video is total spot -on. If someone is watching this , checking the sound - that is how it will sound if you buy it , with Seventy 80 speaker. I`ve personally checked a lot of YT videos before i bought it , and this video provides the most accurate sound representation.

Here's what I like about this amp, it's all tube, with a c\Celestion speaker (which can be modded with a Celestion Greenback 30, and mostly because it has a effects loop. With that loop one can run a top notch modeler through it, and turn off the IR's, then tweak the settings to work with the amp, additionally either as a stand alone for rehearsal or home use, or by micing it up for live club gig.

I have this amp .... It has an Effects Loop ... It has a 1W button, its pretty much as copy of a Blues Jr at 1/3 the price. With what is going on in the Ukrane with Russia, Tube Amps might very well be on their way to being Boutique. I think for the $$$$$ this amp is a real must have. I had a Fender Super Champ X2 that I loved but sold it to get this amp the the effects loop and the 1 W function. Offering a suggestion ... you vocal audio is really low in your video. Three things: 1) The amp is very loud in this video, which is not necessarily clear due to compression-this of course magnifies the perceived noise, and 2) the extra tone control is post power amp and is a lot like a guitar tone pot, so anything past noon makes the amp very bright (I rarely go above 9:00 on mine), and 3) weird popping or crackling is probably the stock tubes (I had a bad tube out of the box that was squealing). If you like Marshally, turn the bass/middle/treble all the way up and season to taste with the tone knob.

I like the amp, but it’s not very loud, and breaks up way too easily. 15 watt Fender (blues jr iv) amps are way louder at a clean sound. But for a quiet practice room or classroom amp, it fits the bill. It sounds much better with some eq between the signal and the input.

I wish I could write a positive review. I got the first one at the beginning of 2023. I loved it, it reminded me of the 1962 Fender Deluxe I once had. However, within two months it went bad. It sounded like a tube going out but all the tubes looked OK and when I tapped on them they all caused the same fried, sizzling etc sound. I requested a refund, had to send the amp back, but fairly quickly was sent a new one. Now, six months later the same thing is happening with the second amp. And guess what... no refunds on this one. I would have to say, be very careful with buying one. PS - I'm a professional guitarist and have been playing for 45 years.

A youtuber suggest a great setting for Fender Champ amps which seem to apply here as well. Turn the tone controls all the way off, turn the volume up. So try the following for the Monoprice. Set TONE to 5 (or higher), Set BASS to 0, MID to 5 (or higher), TREBLE to 0. Set Gain to 10, Volume to 5 (or higher). By keeping the Bass and Treble at zero and playing with the Mids this creates a whole new amp (JCM 800 ish ??)

Boss Katana is unbeatable in that price range, particularly for a beginner. Good quality analogue class AB amp with a wide range of decent quality effects built in. Even as you grow as a player and learn what you like before spending bigger amounts of money, you will likely keep it for when you want something quick and convenient ot don't want to risk taking out 5k worth of gear.

I have a Stage Right 15 watt tube amp and wanted to ask a question: I run a patch from the line out jack on the back to an input in my recording setup. I also mic the speaker, which usually sounds better. But sometimes I want to play without the speaker blaring while I monitor the signal from that line out jack through headphones. The problem is, there's no way to switch off the amp's speaker (that I know of.) I've seen other amps that have the two speaker leads terminating in a quarter inch plug, which can be simply pulled from its jack on the amp. (Not sure if it's ok to operate such amps with this plug pulled out.) My Stage Right amp has the speaker leads hard-wired to the amp. But I could solder an inline switch into one of the speaker leads. MY QUESTION: would switching off the speaker and then operating the amp in this manner endanger it's electronics? If it is safe, would it be better to install the switch on the black or the red speaker lead? I realize that I'd probably be voiding any warrantee coverage, but I don't really put much stock in that anyway. I'm just interested in the opinion of anybody who has a better understanding of these matters than I do. Thanks.

It’s funny when people dump on this amp because it’s not as good as a Matchless hand-wired or a Laney or something. Guys, this is a $200amp. It’s a practice amp. Just helps you play at TV volume with tube response and effects loop to simulate playing through your higher quality amps without wearing down tubes on your nice amp. You cannot buy a Ferrari for $27k. I have this amp for practice, it’s quite amazing for this price point. If you think this is for gigging or the studio you have no idea what you are doing.

i love monoprice. i have a few of their things and this amp is one of them. its basically a blues jr. at a MUCH more affordable price. literally, the only thing i can find different between a blues jr and this is the brand name, really.... well, there are more physical differences, but i mean, from the sound alone, you really cant tell the difference.
their other little one, the 5w one is awesome too! its just like this one, just a bit smaller. i recommend that one as well....
also, if youre in the market for a 1x12 cab, monoprice has them, with an actual Vintage 30 in them, for around $199, unless you get it on sale, like i did for $160 (less than just a vintage 30, or an empty 1x12 cab, on their own). its an incredible deal and i thought it was bs, until i got it. best purchase ive made in a LONG time, ngl....
anyways, its amazing how much value monoprice is able to pack into their amps. idk how the heck they do it, but they do. they do it at such a low price, a price that i thought it was a scam, that i didnt want to buy, but a friend of mine has bought alot of their stuff over the years confirmed for me that it was legit...
but yeah, if youre in the market for an amp, these are hard to beat, and if its the tone youre after, you cant beat the price. period. heck, even if fender isnt "your tone", these are jsut awesome to have and play with. same with their 1x12 cab with vintage 30 in it. the one i got sounds better than i was expecting, by alot.
----literally the only thing i recommend with this tube/valve amp is to change out the garbage speaker. the celestion seventy 80 is trash.. put a celstion Creamback in it and youll see what i mean. it changes the game, entirely, with a creamback loaded into it instead of the garbage seventy 80 that comes in it...

Only been playing 1 1/2 years so I’m far from performing for anyone. But the sporadic noise bugs me. It happens at any volume or gain setting doesn’t matter if the noise gate is on or not. Deferent guitars, cables doesn’t matter. Sometimes I wonder if it’s the tubes picking up electrical interference in the house. I have moved the amp around and in some spots & different outlets it’s quieter but squeal happens anyway. But I also wonder if it’s a poor connection or bad capacitor. Maybe I should check the ground wire on my house. Finding an amp tech around here is challenging.

New amps have new speakers and they need running in. Yours sound new - slow attack and not "giving it out". If you're worried about noise, put it inside something or turn it face-down and put a pillow over the back, and use it on the 15 watt setting for maybe a fortnight of daily playing. That's the quick way but you don't have to whack the heck out of it, just play for a couple of weeks until the speaker opens up.
You'll hear it easily enough when they come to life - and you can't tell anything about a speaker (or an amp) until you've done that. That's why your tone settings are so crazy.
Another decent thing is to use a decent compressor pedal such as an Empress in the send/return loop to by-pass the gain control. If you're going for Fender-ish tones/EQ, that'll give you lots of control and options such as clean, bright sustain and "squish" (among many other options). That sort of "pedal steel" sound that you seem to be going for. Which you won't otherwise get out of any amp that isn't running at a reasonably unsociable "chat".
Almost all pro players use these.

Seriously, you already knew it, but clean/ glassy Fender isn't really this amp's thing. For an early rock/roots/country/blues kind of amp, it cuts through like crazy, insane mids. I put a Weber blue dog speaker in it that I had, really opened it up over the stock 70/80. Absolutely great for a grab and go practice amp, and it gets freaking LOUD. Even on the 1w setting it's loud, lol. On 15w it can easily keep up with any small band situation.
