Not only was the chisel wrought for you by Alec Steele a spectacular piece of work, but this box you created for him in return is a thing of rare beauty. Your outstanding craftsmanship and art was then capped off by the soulfulness of what it really means to be a father. I was the same way with my son when he was tiny. He's 14 now...big as me...and we're not just father and son, but we're best friends. But back to your work -- thank you both (you and Alec) for sharing your excellence with us.
That is why you are the Samurai. The mix of hand and power tools, the choice of music and your comments at the end told a compelling story. Thank you for sharing your passion and thank you for inspiring the next generation. Outstanding!

The Beauty of working with your hands and the satisfaction you get at the end of a project is like watching your child born. I've been working with wood and other materials since I was 13 yrs. old. It has became a lost art and passion. I'm loving to see channels like yours and Alex's taking off and introducing people to the joys of labor. Me, myself have been reinvigorated to get out and continue what our fathers,fathers,father taught them.
Alec Steele sent me, the joy in his video upon receiving this was incredible. You guys have clearly formed a brotherhood of respect, and for sharing a glimpse of that with us, I thank you sir.

Because of your videos I'm diving back into woodworking. I'm expecting my first child at the end of this summer, and I want to create a handmade gift for my son that he will be able to cherish for a lifetime. THIS video specifically inspired me as to what I'll make for him - a toy box. I'm an amateur, I don't have many tools, but I will pour my love and sweat into a simple box that I hope can barely resemble to beauty that you make. Well done sir, well done.
Hope all has worked out for you man and you have a healthy addition to your family. Good luck with the box build, minimum tools can be as efficient as a well kitted out workshop. You just have to think a little more about the design & process and it will take more time. Never a problem for some people.

Jesse, I know I am just one of many but I want you to know that because of you, I started to doing woodworking. I started by buying my first chisel set a year ago and haven't looked back since. Currently creating a timber framed tool chest in a woodworking class that I signed up for this spring. Again, it's because of the amazing craftsmanship that I see you produce that inspired me to "create." Just want to say thanks for all you do and your willingness to share it with us all!
I was so mesmerized by your craftsmanship. My Dad (watching from Heaven) was a carpenter by day and a wood working magician by night. You brought back fond memories of days gone by. Your craftsmanship is a gift. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Video editing and music- on point. And even the rant at the end- it's a message that I believe in. First video I have watched of you, was you demonstrating how to make a scarf joint. I have seen numerous amounts of your videos since. As you hoped at the end of this video, that we would be inspired to get out and create. I have been blessed with that bug! Working out of my basement now, I watch these and have my sights set high to one day quit my full time job to become a full time traditional wood craftsmen. What a joy I have found in it. Not to mention purpose. This modern culture consists of so much consumption in our day to day lives. To live in a opposite lifestyle and to create! Very fulfilling...
May you have encouragement and blessings in your life as what you have helped do for me.
What is really beautiful is that two incredibly talented craftsmen discovered each other because of TH-cam and a huge mutual respect was gained. Jesse, I started a woodworking business last year because of you. Your videos have inspired me to pursue this dream that has been mine since I was a boy. Great to see two people sharing their passion and joy. One doesn't get the same excitement receiving a gift from a big box store. My Father is a finishing carpenter so I get it. They still have on display that crazy long neck bird that I made in shop in grade 9. That was 41 years ago.

as someone who was in professional carpentry for a while before health issues stopped me from working at 200-300 ft heights or on the outside of skyscrapers I am so glad that I have found your channel, Alex's channel, The Essential Craftsman's channel and Capt. Eddie Castelin's channel . All four of you fine men are such wonderful Craftsmen who want to share you knowledge with others and make it a better world. If there were a way to join the four of you I would because you are setting an example that young men today need to see of what it is like to be a gentleman, a Craftsman ( and remove the mistery behind some of these professions) and a role model for being a man's man in today's world where there are few of them! now, if you will excuse me, I have to see if my supplies have arrived for me to make Japanese fountain pens by hand in the old ways of the master. I wish you all have a wonderful week.

I've first read the title "tool Vest for Alec" so I spent the whole video wondering what the heck was going on
The screws were only used on the crate that he airfreighted the toolbox in. The toolbox was pure Samurai joinery.

I am a retired inside machinist. I have built a lot of stuff out of steel. Transferred some machinist knowledge into woodworking 15 ish yrs. ago. and have built a lot of good stuff. I love to build a box, and your tool chest is a work of art for sure. I will build one, and hope it comes out as beautiful as yours !! Thanks for sharing .

ahti29 he uses a lot of makita and awhile back he and makita had a falling out over their support of his channel. great tools but they made the samurai mad.
ahti29 he tried to get his viewers to pressure makita into giving him free tools and when that didnt happen he had hissy fit and painted his tools black

Thanks to craftsmen like you, the only things holding me back are money and a old-injury induced disability. You, Alec and others have inspired me to move forward with a return to crafting with wood, metal, plastic, fabric and other things and documenting the journey.

I'm a machinist by trade. Watching you sculpt that wood by hand was amazing! It can be hard enough making metal behave when cutting it via CNC; but you made a more squirmy medium behave by hand. I doff my cap.

I'm not a craftsmen (yet) but this mentality to create and putting passion to what I do inspires me from programming a layout for a site or even creating a simple database I always put all my passion and keep finding ways to keep improving. Keep the artistic flames going.

That is a very worthy gift. Simple, elegant, with some subtle technical challenges showcasing your skill as well as your signature joinery, I love his maker's mark on the dome top. Well done, Samurai, well done.

i could not agreed more , being a 26 year ebeniste living in Canada mostly B.C. and Quebec, facing the adversity of cheep mass production as created lot's of hardship for us craftsmen true the years , i think that what you guys do is phenomenal and hope that pep's will wake up and pick a piece of metal or wood and see the hidden gem in it and get busy creating something unique and priceless , remember you get what you pay for , so stop paying start making .
Man, I DO GET INSPIRED. I have played your rant over several times just to feel the wibes. I feel the passion, and I do want to create. I follow young Mr. Steele also and his eagerness and passion can be almost overwhelming sometimes. I do wish I was younger though, but I know it is never to late. I have this boring IT job; I used to have the passion for it but after 30 years I'm empty. I started to build up my metal work shop a few years ago, inspired by TH-camrs such as yourself, with a mill, a lathe, a drill press, a band saw and a welder and it has unlocked my creativity. I love every minute I spend in the shop, and just want to work there all day log. So keep up the good job, its working!!
My dad and I created a fine furniture woodworking LLC that we have been slowly growing over the last 14 months. It all started with your workbench video. Then, when you and Alec hooked up on gifting each other things, I'm hooked even more. Thanks for renewing true craftsmanship.
