- Welcome to the first Mountain Trout Fishing Speedrun! I have only one camera battery left to catch Trout, forage wild mushrooms & berries, and do a Mountain Trout Catch & Cook - ALL IN ONE TAKE! This Challenge put my skills to TO THE TEST!!! I filmed this after finishing two prior Mountain Trout Catch, Cook, Camp videos which posted earlier this year.

Finally got time to watch this - instead of yet another bed time story, my three year old and I instead cuddled up on his chair and watched YOU.
The best part? You helped me share with him what it means to put a fish out, and put a connotation of food to fishing. He’s been fishing with me a few times and for bed time he prayed for (among all his thank yous) that we catch a fish and he get to eat.

Just a word of advice when you’re casting off of a high elevation like that you do want to do a slower retrieve in order to let the lore drop further, in my opinion it entices the fish to bite
Agreed, let it sink a second or two then slow down the retrieve a bit

I just watched one of your videos for the first time and I have to say you're already my favorite TH-camr when comes to nature/camping. I can tell that you love and appreciate nature, you're careful, you don't take more than what you need and you actively support the idea of preserving what we have left of our planets nature, without necessarily subtracting us from the equation. This was a great change of pace, you could also use this concept of using more raw footage once in awhile on its own without the challenge and it'd be relaxing as hell I bet. Your editing and camera work is always top of the game in terms of outdoors TH-camrs, but some raw footage is always cool.
Can we all just apreciatte the fact that every single video is like a movie? Like a new story to tell, and lemme tell ya, this is a helluva story teller.

I liked the challenge format as a change but I still prefer the multiple camera angles and the scenery shots 👍
It's nice to go on these outings vicariously through you.
I would suggest letting the bullet lure sink at least 4-5 seconds before reeling it in. It's hard to see how deep it is from the video but I think your chances would be better if you let it sink.
I love this kind of fishing . I did a lot of mountain fishing for trout and I can’t wait to do it again . They are a lot of fun too catch ! Keep up with the videos !

Leif, your videos are just phenomenal--they take me to my own version of paradise! I live in the PNW but dream of the day I can go deep into the mountains and do the things you do! One thing that would be cool would be if you did a breakdown of some of the things you use/do to keep you safe while you're out by yourself so that we can learn (and maybe also how to get started on identifying edible mushrooms).

This is the first time I can suggest something. (Two things.)
You're absolutely so right on - an accident (sprain, break, etc.) out in the wilderness alone can be a deadly thing. Count to ten first, consciously tell yourself to slow down, and move careful.
Second: this came to me in a flash of illumination. You might have saved yourself a bit of valuable time by taking that emptied mushroom plastic container, going quickly to a real good dragonfly larva spot, grabbing yourself 6 to 8 or maybe even 10 fast big juicy ones, and slipping that container in your pocket. That way you're loaded for fish and don't have to waste any more time looking for replacements. Just a thought.

Awesome video! Have you always used bright yellow braid line in these high elevation trout lakes? I would recommend a floro or mono line of 2 to 6 test. Spider wire is my favorite. Cheers keep up the work

Absolutely love your videos! For those of us that cannot be there with you in the moment in the Now, you make it so we can enjoy it with you forever! The catch and cooks are full of cinematic ambience and adventure that almost let you feel the escape and peace of mind with you. Sort of reminds me of the movie the NeverEnding Story, as he reads the book he is actually living the adventure, well when I watch your videos it makes me feel as if I’m living the adventure!

Just wanted to say something about the bait you’re using.
At 36:24, when you lift the rock, there are two hard shell worms stuck on the bottom.
I’ve never seen them on content from American waters, but I can tell you, in Europe, trout go crazy for them. So much so, that they’re technically illegal to fish with.
You break the shell in half and you’ll find a yellow bodied worm with a hard head. You want to use the head when you attach it to the hook.
