    Oh! My parents had that radio. I can remember listening to it with it sitting on the window sill next to the kitchen table.

    I received a Sony AM transistor radio for Christmas in 1971 when I was 9. I still have it and it works. It’s got a chrome front - very cool.

    Panasonic does make great radios. Pretty cool radio. AM radio in the 1970s was awesome, because of the great music. Cheers!

    We need a Top 10 "Todderbert Sings Ironman" compilation video, lol. I especially like the Chinese flavoring. That comment a few days ago about "what's in the wok tonight?" was hilarious 😂

    Cool post! Boy, the memories came flooding back-I received this exact radio, the black version, for Christmas, 1974. I have an old picture somewhere with me holding it that morning. I had asked my Mom for an AM/FM radio, and was disappointed to find this was only AM. I think she made a mistake and meant to get me an AM/FM. It was OK, though as there were some good AM stations in my area- just west of Boston, MA at the time.

    55KRC was my go to Paul Harvey station as a teenager and as a young adult. Plus Wolfman Jack on Friday & Saturday nights.

      I recently tuned into WGN 720 in chicago running old wolfman jack shows overnight weekends. Pretty cool. I am in the northeast and can hear them most nights over the air via skip.

    The evening band scans are so much more fun. Plus i'm in indiana and I get a lot of the same stations. These videos help me to identify the stations

    Love this radio! The readout is so awesome for a MW only radio. Panasonic makes tremendous radios. Your poor reception is probably due to the conditions at the time of your “excursion”. Ionospheric problems can be caused by solar storms etc.

    Hej Todderbert, Mmm, very nice retro Panasonic radio. The AM band in Sweden is basically completely gone, but if it were still available in Sweden, I would buy this Panasonic radio at once. I love the 70s style; thanks for the AM band scans. One thing you should know, Todderbert, I am a little jealous that you still have the AM band, and I miss the AM band we had in Sweden, and I also miss Radio Sweden's shortwave broadcasts. Take care, Todderbert.

    Hey there, I have a R-1031 from eBay, unfortunately it is not receiving signal after a student accidentally knocked it down. But I liked it over my modern radio because the speaker can handle louder volumes and I don't have to replace my batteries often, sounds nice eh?

    Hey todderbert, just watched this video again and wrote down the stations you were picking up to see if I can get any at my location. It was cool at 33:55 in the video to watch a speck of dust float from the right and land on the edge of one of the speaker vents. Did you plan that? I guess the heat went off again. 7 below there huh, 15 below it was here. Going to try some DXing tonight.

      Yeah, there is a heater vent just above my table. I usually don't have an issue when the fan is off. I saw that dust speck later when I reviewed the video, and it bugged me :)

    Let's hope we're all around to hear you sing the Ironman song as you get in your 80's. Maybe You Tube won't be around by then or maybe something better.

    I believe Buffalo ny has a 550 because the 550 in Cincinnati does (or used to) directionalize its signal to avoid Buffalo and ktrs St Louis.

    • @novim9
      @novim9 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      550 here in Buffalo is talk radio, so it’s almost certain it’s not that. What an interesting mystery

    Do any components in a transistor radio tend to deteriorate over time? Is it rare or to be expected or ???
    It is a very cool radio.

    • @stevenemert837
      @stevenemert837 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Capacitors mostly, especially electrolytic. That's the main failure.

    • @haneyoakie14
      @haneyoakie14 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I know the old tube radios have capacitor concerns. Are the old transistor radios equally concerning? Or did the technology get better? Or are the transistor radios just not as old yet?

    • @dwaynewladyka577
      @dwaynewladyka577 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@haneyoakie14Electrolytic capacitors can still deteriorate over time. Depends on how much the radio is used.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      A big one is if the variable capacitor goes bad, they need to be replaced, requiring a ton of work. Those plastic capacitors have thin little mylar type separators, and when they start cracking with age, its game over for them.

    • @Gary-t9v
      @Gary-t9v 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@todderbertYes I have tried to save some of those bad plastic VC's but the "microsurgery" needed makes it pretty much an impossible task.
