Ep 45 - Big Celebration of Life - Drumline and Ceremony on Hiva Oa - French Polynesia / Marquesas

Stardate does some much-needed snorkelling in the waters of Nuku Hiva, setting our sights on many vibrant fish and a lively reef.
Then it's off into town to find more information on where we can get money. We find some locals who are willing to trade us our Euros for CFP Francs but at a fee. We spend the day lazing around town, enjoying the local life.
Next its time to set sail to Hiva Oa, a bigger island. Here, we come across our first grocery store, which luckily takes credit cards, so we can buy whatever we want. We explore our new island, meet the friendliest animals, and some local kids tell us where to find an ATM. Finally, we can take out an abundant amount of CFP Franc.
As we walk around we come across locals in a gym doing a cultural dance. We later find out the mayor had passed away that day and there would be a big ceremony to commemorate him with singing, dancing, and drums. What we had seen was the rehearsal. The next day we participate in viewing the ceremony. We fill a giant field and observe locals dressed in traditional cultural attire. They perform their ceremonial dances accompanied by singing and drum playing. It was a truly powerful experience.
We set sail again to a new anchorage in search of cleaner and clearer waters as we near Luca’s departure. Upon arrival, we are greeted by a local who gifts us a fish which makes a delicious dinner. But before dinner, we head to the beach to enjoy a bottle of rum and the majestic setting: waves, sand, sunset, and palm trees.
Our next day is less than pleasant with a tremendous amount of rainfall. We spend the day cozying up with movies, but Matt decides an experiment is in order. He attempts to fill our water tanks with rain water. Spoiler alert… it works!
