Luca's last days on Stardate - Episode 46
Luca's had an unexpected family issue call him back home a bit earlier than his expected departure, so we're trying to make the most of our time by continuing to move around the area, exploring anchoages, diving spots and hikes.
Lots of nice sailing footage in this one, as we sailed upwwind in 30 kts to reach our destination.
See the epiic dives with a manta ray, and the beatuiful sunset hike to top things off!

    There are now so many videos like this that we all already know what it's like. Most of you are flogging a dead horse. You will never make enough money to live by posting on social media. You are too late to the party.

      @caribbeanchild quite the negative comment I'm sorry if you were bored by the content this week. You are right however, there are a ton of channels and probably no money to be made. That's OK. I'm making these videos for anyone who is interested in watching them and to keep my friends and family in the loop on what I'm up to, so they can come along for the adventure and know what I've been though.. There are too many special and difficult moments to convey to everyone back home over a couple beers. It would take too many beers! And this episode means a lot to me because it outlines the personal journey that we all went through. All the best and thanks for watching!

    • @SailingStardate
      @SailingStardate 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      wow Zeb! you've really taken it upon yourself to try to pick at that one point havent you! When you say sheets and ropes, are you simply referring to the one main halyard which I explained in the video is a non-issue because 1) if the halyard were to fail it would fail safe - the main would simply fall down 2) the frayed section is after the clutch meaning that with full main out there is no load on that section and 3) the core of the line is where its strength comes from so the line is still at probably 80-90% strength Were there other ropes and lines that you're being hyper critical of as well or just that one that you're trying to make into a bigger deal than it is? Just because there is damage to one single line doesnt mean you can draw the conclusion that "the sheets and ropes wer not checked before starting". Maybe it's time for you to put down the computer and go do some sailing!

    • @SailingStardate
      @SailingStardate 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Zeb1432 thats ultimately what we did to fish the outhaul through. Its not a safety item though and it would also have failed safe, nothing to stress about there with a broadreach that mostly used the jib. As far as the jib furler set screws, they were in there at the start of the passage but must have been loose and gotten looser as we sailed. I never found them so they must be at the bottom of the pacific. Luckily we discovered it and jury-rigged the solution before we needed to reef. I've now had the set screw holes re-tapped and larger set-screws in there but you know what? i've still got duct tape on there to keep them in place. Locktite would be fine too ofcourse. Why the washer such a mistake?

    • @SailingStardate
      @SailingStardate 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At that point in the trip, I just hadn't used it very much. Part of the problem is that using it through the boat's water system causes the water pump to cycle on and off repeatedly for a long time while the washer slowly fills - its bad for the pump to cycle on and off. Where I ended up getting better use out of it was in marinas where I would just hook the washing machine directly up to the marina water supply, and could crank out lots of laundry in a day, and at the time of writing now the washer has certainly paid for itself ($300 US) in saved laundry costs. I have some tweaks in mind to hook up the water supply on both the hot and cold side in the boat's water system, to allow the washer to fill faster and hopefully not cycle the pump on and off.
