The only thing 'bad' about BlackBox is that they forgot to include a Ricky Tinez with it. Thanks man really enjoy your vids and ofcourse your creativity!

I really vibed with this jam on a quiet Sunday morning. You're so conversational that I find myself occasionally responding with "I know right?" or something like that. Reminds me when someone leaves a really long voicemail and as I listen to it I forget it's not a two-way conversation and I respond to something they say like they can hear me. Okay, now I sound like a crazy person, lol.

The Song Mode is quite simple. It just records the activation and de-activation of the sequences. Set a section bar length and press record, then capture your sequence arrangement.

I’ll tell you Ricky, I got the Bluebox, and at first I thought, I don’t need another multitrack mixer/recorder, but then I was thinking about it, and thought I’ve got 4 mixers just in my eurorack that I use constantly, so yeah it could be useful! So I’ve got the Blackbox, the Bluebox, the SH4D and the Dr 880 all connected in midi and mixer, and have a styles (like Yamaha calls them) workstation! So now I’m making my own styles on my Korg Kronos/Nautilus combination (because I have an 88 Kronos and a 61 Nautilus) and it’s bad ass! So when sampling now I say yes, I need a mixer to do it right! It also ties all the FX clocks together on Microcasm, Mood, Fable etc…the only thing is, more 1/8 to 1/8 and 1/8 to 1/4 splitters, $100 for good ones and a few more 1/8 midi cables, yeah that’s a pain and pricey but worth it! Correction, I wanted to use the Fable (no midi, damn!) the H9 I used instead.

That's how I sequence on it too. It's a great little device and of course every sequence can be it's own length so really intuitive to leave progressions out.

been a sound engineer and making electronic music for decades was nice to have some refreshing new techniques in the video I have no used before, you also increased my excitement to play with the black box more which I at first didnt like but I am learning more and getting to like the fluid no nonsense UI and work flow. One of the most intuitive production tools out there.

To set up a section or arrangement in song mode, simply go to the sequencer page, activate the pads (micro arrangements) you want to include in the song section, then go back to the song page select the song and loop mode, then record the section. Hope this helps bro.

2:39 - A song section is to sequences as a sequence is to pads. Ricky shares a good tip on often keeping sequences limited to one pad. A song section might hold only one seq, (think intro), but generally, a song section holds multiple seqs. Use multiple song sections containing different combinations of seqs to arrange your track.

I'm generally a fan of directory directory structure organization on computers, but the more I use these stand alone music devices, the more convinced I am that they need to embrace attribute tags. Like, imagine you want to find something and you could search on deep+bass and get 808, double, etc. You'd have to tag like hell, probably on a computer at the time of sample creation, but it would make it so fluid to do those searches - and might kick up some sounds with attributes outside of the context you were looking at, but that work nonetheless.
Anyhow, props on creepy babies. KIR.

I love the Blackbox. I didn't expect to dig it so much, but I watched one of your videos a while back and grabbed one. I usually use an MPC, but the Blackbox paired up with a Midifighter 3d is a killer combo for live stuff. I made a couple solid tracks/videos with that pair. I keep it in a little bag and it was my main portable rig until I got a PO33.
I always dig your stuff bro, great content. Good work.

The idea of this machien is stunning. I have had my hands on one. It would be great if it has an arrange page like the very early midi only cubase. Key edit and cut and paste tracks/bars etc Also imagine being able to plug a monitor and a mouse in it!!!! The hardware sequencer market is picking up AT LAST>

I love getting out of the daw. This groove box definitely seems pretty cool for a noob, seems pretty intuitive, but a hi learning curve. But you seem like a genius with technical stuff. I would probably like the track mute in mpc live rather than this. But you explained everything so clearly.. I am glad to have found your channel. Let me know if you got a mpc live video cuz I might invest. Thanks man. Keep it up, really respect what you are doing here! I wish I would've discovered you when my mpd32 worked.

It's good to keep your kick in its own sequence, but I treat other instruments often the way I would use groups in Ableton. So for percs and hats often I'll layer them in the same sequence. Not always, but often. Love the Blackbox as you say it's so easy to get something decent going quickly. I'm really excited for the Bluebox 👌🙌👊

You know, I think you’d really like the Intellijel Plonk. I recently sold my Surface for one, and I’m thinking about getting a second. It’s way more menu divey (tho maybe not as much as, say, Pamela’s New Workout) but there’s way more sound design and modulation possibilities. Plus it has attenuators :) The intellijel video is what sold me on it, after sleeping on it due to other vids. You should check it out
