It amazes me that these companies can walk away from their obligations. And it's ongoing; somewhere today someone is signing a deal with these scumbags and everyone is pretending that their word on a contract means something. I think CEOs and CFO's and their lawyers should be liable and if their millions of ill gotten dollars aren't enough, they should be pressed into work gangs to clean up their own mess at gunpoint. What taxpayer wouldn't want to see that?

Are the wells subsurface capped off and then buried? Or is there always something sticking up after?
Yes, subsurface capping is supposed to be what is done.
why not save the wells to pump c02 and the heat back down?

People who own the land can still tap the wells and get free natural gas....they forgot to mention that and the only reason is it's not cost effective for them. Very cost effective for you to run natural gas generators and gas fire place gas BQ
