About 3:19, during the scene where Duchess woke up to find her and her three kittens away from home, when Toulouse first assumed it was the evil plan of Edgar that got them far away from home, Duchess didn't believe him. We can see there that Toulouse wasn't being trusted when he was telling the truth and at 3:19, we know that Toulouse was first to correctly figure out it was the evil plan of Edgar. I know this is a cartoon, but until 1985, Sesame Street used to have a detail that no adults had seen Snuffy and the adults wouldn't believe Big Bird when he told them about Snuffy, but the detail was ended because people thought kids would assume their parents wouldn't believe them if they were telling the truth when something unusual happened and that kids would just not bother telling a parent instead of follow their instinct to tell a parent if something unusual happened.
What Thomas O'Malley said at 2:24 was apparently incorrect, as we see right after and in many subsequent scenes. After saving them from Edgar, he became Duchess' husband and stepfather to the three kittens.
