- "Feeding instructions:"
Horses all like apples and carrots. Feeding an already tamed horse will raise it's bond. Endura Carrots also give your horse +3 temporary spurs.
Blupees don't care for foodstuff. I've tried with veggies, fruit and even meat, but they simply ignored it.
Sand Seals (domesticated & wild) like fruit of any kind. Patricia, Rijus personal Sand Seal, will also give you some in-game tips if you feed her fruit, translated by the Gerudo Guard ... and each contains an awful seal pun.
Squirrels like acorns, Chickaloo Tree Nuts, apples... maybe more, but since they're very skittish, it's really difficult to get close enough to throw snacks at them
Hateno Cows and Water Buffalos primarily eat greens / herbs and veggies. (I didn't include Hateno Cows in this submission because I already posted the footage in another video and didn't feel like recycling it)
Wild & domestricated goats, as well as Hateno Sheep, eat a variety of greens and veggies
Boars and deer eat fruit, veggies and nuts, herbs and greens
Moose and rhinos in Hebra will eat apples, Hyrule Herb, acorns and carrots.
Foxes completely ignore any kind of meat and poultry for whatever reason, but will go nuts for apples - including a joyful little jump before digging in.
Wolves and coyotes will completely ignore apples, but go for meat immediatly. If there is a living creature (deer, moose, pigeons) in their line of sight, they'll go chase the "living" meat instead... which means that they stop eating as soon as they notice Link and try to hunt him instead. Obviously nobody taught them the saying "never bite the hand that feeds you".
Honeyvore Bears go for any kind of meat and fish, but ignore honey completely.
The dogs at the stables eat fruit and meat. If you feed them a few pieces of either one, they might lead you to hidden treasure
Fish eat anything that corresponds to their effect.
I managed to feed Hyrule Herb and a carrot to an Eldin Ostrich before it noticed me. No idea if they also eat other stuff, because I didn't manage to recreate it. Ostriches seem to be VERY alert: the moment they spawned, I was already close enough for them to notice me (even with Lv.3 stealth) and trying to feed them stuff while in the "burning air zone" of Death Mountain caused them to immediatly freak out because their food caught fire.
"Small Birds love Chickaloo Tree Nuts" ... but every single sparrow I found so far completely ignored all foods I threw at them. Chickaloo Tree Nuts, rice, wheat, fruit, meat, fish, herbs, everything. If you kill them, they will DROP these nuts tho.
Herons, pigeons, ducks, crows and cuccos don't seem to care for food either.
Crabs, Lizards and Frogs ignore food tossed at them. I also tried releasing insects close to them, but they simply don't seem to care.
Bokoblins, Moblins and Lizalfos will happily snag every piece of meat or fish tossed their way and immediatly eat it, sometimes with funny results: they munch, burp, drool ... and the ones that didn't get meat throw cute little temper tantrums.
Lynels don't care for meat..... except if it's still alive and wielding a weapon, but tossing even Gourmet Meat their way doesn't make anything happen.
Stal-enemies don't care for meat, even tho StalHORSEs eat apples just fine.
Hinoxes seem to ignore food. The same goes for Stalnoxes.
Rock Octoroks "eat" rust. If you toss a RUSTY (not damaged or close to breaking) weapon their way, they'll suck in the weapon, gleefully munch on it for a few seconds and then spit out a shiny new rust-free version of the same weapon type.
...other Octos ignore food.
Chuchus, Wizzrobes and Keese normally ignore food
Moldugas will try to eat anything that makes a sound, but just leaving "dead" meat lying around in the desert doesn't seem to trigger them. If you want to "feed" them something, like a living Lizalfos for example, you'll have to shoot an arrow into the sand close to the Lizalfos and wait for the Molduga to ...uh..."investigate" the source of the noise.
Taluses, Pebblits and Guardians don't have mouths to begin with. If you toss stuff at them, they ignore it.
Wolf Link eats everything if he is hurt, especially if he isn't supposed to. He also eats Whole Raw Birds and Gourmet Meat regardless of whether or not he has full health, howling with glee after every piece of meat he devoured. Wolf Link also seems to be the only mammal in the game that actually eats mushrooms.
The Yiga Blademaster Guards in the Yiga Hideout can't resist bananas - it's even a viable tactic to lure them away from their posts to sneak past, using bananas as bait (sadly it only seems to work with the guards inside the Yiga Hideout - regular Blademasters ambushing Link on the road don't react to any food as far as I can tell).
Master Kohga doesn't seem to care for bananas tho ....
...interestingly enough, Maz Koshia can't resist them ;)
I love how Link's true calling is a wildlife photographer.
Why be the most skilled swordsman in Hyrule when you could be a wildlife photographer amirite
@@Teudlanif why not both
I've played BotW over 500h so I have nothing important left to do so sometimes I just do things such as this :D
I can imagine both him and Zelda working on an encyclopedia.
@@qwmx that’s really cute,, if zelda plays a bigger part in the sequel, I hope she’ll do stuff like that (with link)
Zelda: growing weaker by the minute
Link:
That genuinely gives me anxiety in the game. My brain isn't good at differentiating between danger and simulated danger
@@od3910 lmao it's fine, Ganon will wait for you
@@od3910 omg same 😂
@@od3910 same. My firsy playthrough had me mostly going for the main story because of that. After I know that I did it(, and while I wish there was post-game running around) it's easier to take in the sights.
Meh, I'll get there when I feel like it. Zelda and Ganon aren't going anywhere. I got time.
This is just like one of those nature documentaries lol
LOL
It IS a nature documentary, in a fictional world
Legend of Zelda: The Nature of Hyrule 🙂🙃
600hrs into this game and i didn’t know u could feed all types of animals
Ikr. I thought it was a gimmick limited only to doggos and tamed horsies.
I had no idea it was even possible to get close enough to feed a squirrel
Right???
I'll have to delete my comment. I just left the same one but for 500 hours, haha.
For real!! I also had no idea that the rock octoroks could clean rusty metal items! Such a crazy amount of detail in this game
I love how the Lynel just stands there like:
“Link, wha- what are you doing? Why are you throwing meat on the ground?
Wha- Ye- YES! YOU KNOW I’M VEGAN!”
New headcannon, Lynels are vegan and the reason they attack you when they see you is because you are ruining the vegetation and wild life by having your dirty feet step all over their property.
Link seeing any food: :DDD
Link seeing zelda again after 100yrs: :|
Mans no simp
You missed messing with monsters on the mountain. If you throw meat at bokoblins in Hebra, the food will freeze and they'll throw a little tantrum as they bite their hardened food.
Thats hilarious!!! I love all the little details in this game
One time my sister was playing botw, and she was fighting a few bokoblins when her axe broke. So when she hit one of the bokoblins, she then took his sword and shield and tried to make a break for it. When the bokoblin she had robbed got up and went to get his weapons, he realized that Link had them, and pointed at link while doing a little stompy- tantrum as it then began to try kill link. I freaking love the detail in this game
I swear, the amount of details of this game is awesome
I also love how when theres more than one boko and you give them food, they’ll both go for it, and the one who doesn’t get the food will look at the one who got it like “EXCUSE ME?!!!!??”
Bruh I've never swung the camera to that angle when Link is cooking, he looks so happy lmao

Well the poor guy hasn't had anything to eat in 10,000 years.
Kohga having better self-control than maz kosha is really funny to me.
“He’s not just a pretty pony”
Yes, a pretty pony with four eyes
Silly Wolf Link, everyone knows that cucco only eat human flesh!

I was blown away
There were definitely people who thought they were high and since yiga love bananas they would love bananas
i once watched as a wolf chased after me on a narrow bridge, slipped off, died of fall damage, and the lizalfos underneath the bridge immediately ran over to eat its 'corpse' of raw meat left behind. it was kind of brutal, and i audibly gasped in horror when it happened
Well thats just morbid

Nice to see that I'm not the only idiot Walking through hyrule and thinking 'can I feed you?'

Lizalfols will actually flick their tongues out at flying bugs and eat them! It was fun to watch... I think they primarily ate dragonflies and I don’t remember if they would eat butterflies (Although they probably would)
i like to think of this as a vlog from link's perspective
Yup. Quiet
Botw a Zelda game...
Or a freaking parallel universe worth studying and understanding
Honestly, this game beats everything
My mind is BLOWN that you can feed rusty shields to octoroks and get a clean one back.
That's an important part of the final trials. Save the rusty weapons you get in room 1 and you can get them upgraded later.
Link’s expression of pure joy when the fruit cake was done cooking is something rare to see in this world today. He looked happier to see a fruitcake than he did to see Zelda again tbh.
Interesting theory about Maz Koshia and the bananas: the Yiga clan splintered off from the main Sheikah clan when the king turned his back on them, leading them to live peaceful, rural lives in Kakariko. Maz Koshia is obviously from before that time, and it stands to reason that ancient Sheikah enjoyed bananas, since they are such a big part of the Yiga diet, even in the desert.
The fact that you can just go animal watching in this game is so awesome.
This is the cutest thing i have seen in a while, also really relaxing. Animals eating in BOTW always manages to warm my heart
You know, every time I come across an animal, I shoot them... I’ve never even considered “hey, maybe I can FEED THE ANIMALS” 😂
When Beedle is at snowfield stable I cook pepper steaks and sell them to him
this feels like a botw nature documentary and i love it!!! 🥺 thank you for taking the time to make it
There actually is a person who made a documentary about bokoblins. I think it was monster maze?
I second this!!
The apples are clearly converted directly into love, which is the main power source for the dead horse
it legitimately makes me happy that someone is doing this research; i try to feed animals when i'm exploring around but i didn't know what to give each of them until now, thanks :)
bro, feeding bokoblins is one of my favorite things to do
I like how Zelda is like- almost dying to ganon and then
Link: imma be a wildlife photographer
bro the lynel standing like 🧍 and not attacking you was the funniest thing I've seen all day
WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT LINK BEING SO HAPPY WITH THE FRUITCAKE!!! IT'S SO ADORABLE LIKE THE INNOCENCE OF A CHILD IS STILL WITH HIM!!
THIS ✨✨ HE LOOKS SO HAPPY
Lizalfos also eat frogs, lizards, and any insect. They’ll actually nab lizards and insects with their tongues like real chameleons do! If you’re standing in the way of their mouth when they’re trying to grab a bug you can get slapped by their tongues even if they’re completely non-aggro with you (ie Lizalfos mask with no other enemies nearby). You can sometimes see them lick up bugs out of the grass if you watch from afar.
Link's busy being a zoologist while Zelda's literally depending on him to save Hyrule... Fine with me!
Apples increase your horse's bond. It only takes ten to max it out.
I'm pretty sure swift carrots make your horse faster, but I could be wrong.
Like 4 years after its release we are still learning more
As someone who owns goats in real life, yes, they are that loud....
The look on Link's face while he's cooking has got to be the cutest thing ever.
I love the details Nintendo put in this game, I always discover something new, but I just realized that between all animals added, no felines! I loved some kitties around
The bokoblin who threw a tantrum because he didn’t get his snack was hilarious.
This is so wholesome! I never knew there was such a variety of animals in BOTW.
Lowkey expected that you'd try to give something to Ganon at the end :^).
You must be the best at BotW trivia in the world, man.
I'll bet less than a hundred people know that fish only eat food with the same cooking effect as them. (Aside from the people who have seen this video of course)
Bruh I have like 1000 hours on breath of the wild, I consider myself an expert in botw trivia, like how you can find a diamond under a specific rock on satori mountain or a royal greatsword on top of the woodland tower. I've memorized the contents of many chests scattered across hyrule as well as unique and bizzare points of interest (Like that wall without collision on the east side of Death mountain). But damn, after watching this guy's channel for 5 minutes I've already learned several new things I never knew or even thought about. Every time I think I know _everything_ about this game it turns out there's still so many layers to uncover.
I think one npc tells you this, at least in the German version. I forgot already about it, but it is mentioned... 🤔
@@radschele1815 one told me too
I like to make food and make Link eat it, even if he has full health, just because it says he loves to eat. I also wish that you can feed Riju’s sand seal without getting advice from her every time, because I just want to feed that seal, I don’t want her advice again
this was a very interesting project to watch you document! it was like watching a biologist study the mannerisms of wildlife.
Awwww, Link out here trying to feed the animals.
*Sees Link trying to feed a Lynel.*
Well, he’s just ungrateful.
I was patient and very, very lucky with an Ostrich on Eldin's Flank!! I left one each of Apple, Hylian Shroom, Hyrule Herb, Raw Meat, and Acorn. It left the meat alone but ate everything else! (although it nearly spooked between the first three and the acorn)
Nice! Thank you for testing it out ;)
9:30 - I loved it when you launched that meat at the bokoblins, and the one who got it first seemingly smiled at you instead of attacking.
This game has been out for almost four years now and I had no idea that you could feed the different types of animals. It’s incredible how the community continues to find new things about the game years after it has come out! 🤯
13:17
Well, if you were bound to sit and meditate for countless centuries without the slightest taste of food or water, you’re bound to work up an appetite, and would SO want to spare a moment to eat something! 😊
If you drop food in freezing areas, lizalfos will throw a fit when the food freezes halfway through their meal. I haven't tried burnt food yet but I'm sure they'll react the same.
this feels like a mini documentary of a naturalist discovering the eating habits of the fauna of hyrule
I still can't get over how happy he looks when cooking, same Link same.
weird that the foxes don't go for meat even though in real life they do
I actually know where the apples go when eaten by a skelleton horse... it's magic!!
i really watched 14 minutes of someone feeding pixels with pixels. great.
How did you EVER think of/discover that Maz Koshia eats bananas??? MAD props!!
Right
That shot of the hightail lizard and the bananas is one of the most blessed things I’ve seen in a while
Man, gotta love nature documentaries
Wolf link actually gets a massive attack boost after eating gourmet meats!
the commentary was so entertaining i absolutely love it
This is why I love botw, you don't even need to play the story to be entertained. You can do anything
this was so wholesome. I didn't know you could feed all those lil animals.
Funny fact 2:00 : in the spanish version of this game, the name for a sand seal is "morsa del desierto" (desert's walrus, literally) and the spanish name for Patricia is "Morselia". I think "Morselia" from "morsa" is a funny nickname. Anyone knows about where Patricia gets her name? Any meaning?
11:06 There is a rock octorok near gerudo tower, the one with no ground around it, wich is more usefull to clean your rusty equipment since there is no lava nearby.
Patricia means "noble" so maybe she got that name because she's the "noble" (royal) Sand Seal and the others are "commoners"? Or maybe it's a wordplay on "patriarchy" since the Gerudo tribe is a strict matriachy. Sadly I don't lnow about an official / canon explanation.
The spanish nickname is super interesting tho! I love these details ♪
In the spanish version a lot of names change. Finally someone apreciates the name "Morselia"! (for me the spanish names are better)

I love how even the big, beefy Yiga Blademasters happily run over to bananas when they see them. So adorably funny.
Speaking of, why exactly _do_ the Yiga love bananas so much? Is there a reason given in-game?
I recall some NPCs telling me that the Yiga are such fierce fighters in part because they eat a lot of mighty bananas (an attack-boosting ingredient), but other than that I think it’s probably just a gag.
YOU CAN FEED THE LORD OF THE MOUNTAIN????
I have work to do :D
This is so fascinating. I thought you could only feed horses and dogs. Glad to know i was wrong and can make even more animal friends. 9:15 is such a beautiful shot
You may know this cause someone else told you, but you CAN pet dogs. There’s no special animation, but if you unequip your weapons and then press the button that usually takes your weapon out near a dog, you will technically be petting the dog. If you do this a couple times, the pink sparkles will appear. Feed them one meat, and they’ll lead you to treasure too!
I love petting stable dogs
Wat
Somehow i can tame the dog by just staring at it
@@uffyq9777 I ran over a dog with my horse and I tamed it. I was so confused haha.
The pink sparkles only appear because you’re looking them in the eyes, so if you just crouch next to them and stare there will still be sparkles but I’m definitely gonna do this and pretend I’m petting them lol

This is amazing. People keep discovering stuff in BotW, even after all these years.
I'm surprised Nintendo put so much thought into what these animals eat. It gives me the hope that in the sequel, we'll hve a better ecology system!

And here i thought you could only feed horses!
Also the pic of the snail made me laugh wayy too hard.
Dude I love how the sand seal's tail flips when it's happy
The details of this game are INSANE
This is the kind of gameplay I'd be doing... let's see what the animals in this game will eat just because I don't want to go do the main quest.
The ostrich in this game has two too many toes to be an (earth) ostrich, haha. It looks weird to me to see chicken or loftwing feet on it.
Ostriches and other ratites don't have rear facing toes. Actually, ostriches only have two toes. The larger toe has a long claw for clawing their enemies. Can link tame and ride an ostrich? I've never heard of someone doing that but I want to try.
Now hat you mention it ... i've never paid attention to their toes, but there are indeed a couple too many, lol. For a bird of that size whose main defensive mechanism is kicking other animals and then running away, a "backhand" toe of that size would be a huge hindrance instead of an evolutionary advantage.
Sadly you can not ride them ... the same goes for Water Buffalos and the moose and rhinos in the Tabantha/Hebra region. I hope they make it possible in the sequel to not only ride but also keep those animals (and of course also stalhorses, deer etc)
I also love how the ostrich does a little bop after spotting a treat :3
f in the chat boys for master kohga who didnt eat his bananas
I don't think the snails even move. They're pretty much inanimate objects as a living organism.
And they glow. That's pretty cool too.

They have no stomachs, or taste buds, or anything. Stalhorses feed of the souls of the damned :)
@@creepkilla007 okay but they give me little heart bubbles or something when I feed them so I like the think I made them happy 🥲
