You just confirmed seasons in the wild. That means the in game world is tilted on its axis.
Miyamoto has said before that Hyrule is found on Earth, so it makes sense.
To be honest I feel change of season would simply raise higher or lower the sun arc over the horizon. The fact the sun is instead moving thru north in BOTW, south in TOTK means like Hyrule have been "teleported" in a different part of the Earth hemisphere (like Europe vs South Africa). Weird Nintendo had to to so..
@@TheMacco26
Or... This means Hyrule simply is near the equator, if you are at the equator or near it then You see the sun in the northern side during summer while in winter it is more on the southern side, That's probably why Hebra is still in a Winter Season and maybe also why not only the desert but also Gerudo Valley is warmer.
@@Chris-gx1ei Yeah, in theory. But that'd work on a very smaller planet, because with the curvature of Earth, anything crossing the equator can't really have cold areas with just a few hundreds meters of altitude as it happens in Gerudo Heights etc. I don't know why they said Hyrule is based on Earth..
@@TheMacco26 not necessarily if Hyrule is near the equator, in that case seasons would shift the sun's path more to the north or to the south
One of my friends had mentioned the sun shifting, and he thinks that it was done to help make the world feel new and fresh. I can’t argue with that idea, as it’s a hard-to-spot change that makes everything look slightly different
THATS WHY IT FELT DIFFERENT! The lighting! I went to familiar places in TotK to feel comfortable, and they just all felt off
I believe the sun may have been flipped for the sake of the Gerudo desert. In Totk, shadows now play a major part in navigating the gerudo desert because they now prevent heat damage, and what lies directly north of the desert? The gerudo highlands, a massive ridge that casts a massive shadow. With the sun traveling north, the northern edge of the gerudo desert is safe to walk through. The devs must have run into this issue in testing, and sneakily decided to flip the sun from north to south, a detail that is unnoticeable unless you are, say, an avid video game photographer.
this makes the most practical sense honestly
How is this anything different to BotW? Shadow was essential for surviving in the desert back then as well (if you don't have armor or medicine).
But the sun is in the south for TotK, so the shadows played a bigger role in BotW in the desert, right?
True, but in BotW the sun was south-east during the hottest time of day, and since the south and east of the Gerudo Desert are an open wasteland (with invisible walls, but still) there is very little shadow for Link to hide in unless he brings a huge metal object with him as a makeshift sun umbrella. In TotK, this change creates way more "natural" shadow than before, so the idea does make sense ;)
I remember at least one prominent Zeldatuber noticing this sun detail while analyzing prerelease material, and attributing it to seasons.
that is so wild that the sun was flipped. definitely not something i've noticed in all my playthroughs. makes you wonder how and why the dev team did that.
Whoa, I never would have realized the lighting change. The Death Mountain memory location was one of the hardest for me to find, for whatever reason. I'm looking forward to seeing if there's any changes in THE hardest one: that darn zero-landmarks forest memory. (I suppose I could check it myself, but I'm not even positive I'm remembering the correct forest...)
I know the one your talking about! Want help finding it?
The forest doesn't have a name on the map, but the location is halfway between the Bottomless Bog (now Bottomless Pond) and Wetland Stable, on the western shore of the river. ;)
@@WolfLink_justlookingfordragon Thanks! Kind of funny that it's one of the locations that changed the least.
@@joypink5599 I'm good, but thanks :)
I never noticed before that Zelda's picture of the shrine at 6:39 has Vah Medoh just hanging out and flying in the background. That's interesting.
Love the Sanity recovering activities, everytime makes me wanna jump again on any of both games.
7:48 - wouldn't it have been possible to lock up the Gerudo guard somehow, by placing barriers around her or even take one of those metal cages from the big bokoblin hideouts and place it over her?
Huh..interesting idea. I need to check that =)
i thought the shifted sun position was because it took place during a different time of year
I can't believe people noticed the sun's position had changed from the trailers!!
(Which then spawned Wild Mass Guessing of time travel/alternate timelines/alternate universe)
The attentive eye of Zelda fans is insane!
"It brought back a sense of proper exploration. The area feels 'new' and it is strangely rewarding again when you finally find what you were looking for."
That's how I felt. Even though I have a general idea of where most things are since I played Breath of the Wild for so long, finding places again, like for quests or NPC's, proved surprisingly challenging.
The Zelda Team may have used the same Hyrule but they made it different enough so that some parts felt familiar, like coming home or seeing an old friend, and other places looked unfamiliar like getting reacquainted with a long lost relative. I did like certain spots that became expanded places to discover and explore like the Forgotten Temple or Typhlo Ruins.
love the the continuation of this topic! so interesting to see how much they show an actual change.
also yay youtube actually notified me early for once!
Oh good, people noticed the sun! I think it's more than seasons, myself- it looks as if the Upheaval knocked the whole planet 180 degrees out of whack. If it is just seasons, then Hyrule is on the equator and the planet has a huge axial tilt, correct?
Good thing those three or four BotW shrine quests that relied on shadows were out of the way
Hasn't the change of sun's position already been noticed by hardcore fans / TH-camrs even before the game's release, just by analyzing the pictures and trailers we got?
I'm a bit surprised that you didn't know that, as you sometimes dig very deep into the game's details I expected you to know about it. But maybe you just forgot since back then (which is fair, I forgot as well).
If you attach a battery to a hoverstone does it still show the gauge?
If its not to much work, could you also do some shots at the end of the game? Hebra Blizzard is gone, Lost Woods is normal again, and so on.
so happy to see this series again!
Ah yes, hyrule rotates, moving on.
great work! thanks for all of the wonderful videos!
this was sick
I just rewatched the Then and Now for BOTW earlier today, so this was unexpected!
He made the new video just for you! ❤
This random change of the sun feels like the "HARRY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!" Dumbledore asked cALmlY change. Random and doesnt seem to be a reason XD
I love this style of video, proably cus I also tried to recreate the photos in botw but then decided I was too lazy for that
I love your videos! Thanks!
I love this
As @TomsBackyareWorkshop already mentioned, I believe the sun's position changed due to the changing seasons. But @percent3767's theory is some big brain stuff I never would have noticed.
I would suggest changing the title to "TotK" instead of sequel. A bit more clear, and fewer people will ignore it because "oh, I haven't seen the first one yet".
TotK felt *off* to me fore various reasons, but I tried to do this same thing and discovered just how much so!
카메라 엥글 맞춘 거 진짜 대박인 듯 😂
감사해요 ;)
I completely didn't notice the flipped sun direction !? maybe... its a sign that TOTK is in a different universe to BOTW. Maybe that explains somewhat why absolutely nobody remembers that link is the person who saved their entire existence 😅
I watched a recent video by CaptBurgerson that went in depth about the NPCs and their memory of BOTW Link.
Very much worth watching imo.
@@MiDuWay I just looked up the video because I was interested, but then I realized it is 40 minutes long. That is too much for a Zelda theory video for me. Do you have a summary for me?
How is the hole to get into the emergency shelter closed in TotK at 2:21?
It stays closed until Purah opens it up for you. After that, it's always open.
It's closed when you first arrive at Lookout Landing. It remains closed until you speak to Scorpis *after* speaking with Purah. If you don't speak with Scorpis, it will remain shut.
