    I've been playing guitar for nearly 40 years and I think you are a very good teacher, given the nature of your audience. Keep up the good work, my friend. You are very appreciated by many!

    this riff he is showing is extremely useful especially from the " a " chord, if you use one finger to form/barre the "a" chord on the 2nd,3rd & 4th strings all on the second fret, then hammer on as he shows to form the next chord in this case would be a "d' chord so you are alternating from the a to the d chord...on the Fleetwood Mac song "Say you love me"...after the first line is sung Lindsey Buckingham is using this exact technique .. this really opened up my playing on many tunes..

    Love this lesson Brian, after a couple years tinkering on an acoustic guitar I have bought my first electric guitar and decided on a telecaster for the sweet tones displayed in this lesson, although not sounding quite as good as your version it's a joy to play and I shall definitely be looking up more of your lessons. Big thanks from Plymouth England, keep up the good work my friend.

    Brian thanks very much for your reply , i do enjoy your teaching style & it's good how you take time to reply to your students , as i'm sure you get kept very busy , it's good to have a harmony amongst people who have a love of music & i hope to continue along on my music journey , we have a good blues community here in Melbourne Australia & i am involved as a member of the MBAS which is the Melbourne blues appreciation society & at the moment there is a competition to gain a place to compete in the Memphis Blues competition , & i'm sure Brian that you'd be aware of some of our Australian artists & it's good to see some of our younger generation taking the blues music seriously , so thanks Brian & you take care my good man

    Brian, thanks so much for what you so humbly and graciously share! Contrary to at least one opinion, I think that your lesson is well thought-out and delivered, and it's difficult for me to imagine that someone who couldn't derive at least something from this lesson wouldn't have something better to do with his time than to be spewing venom on a brother musician and teacher. Oh well! Thanks again, Brother! Be well!

    Brian it's Les here from Australia , when i sent you that comment about your guitar course , i didn't mean to upset you & if i did i apologise , in your reply you seemed like i had been rude , Brian it's certainly not your fault that i am a bit of a slow learner , your course is great & i think maybe i have been not as patient as i should have , i had a very bad accident on a m/cycle at a racetrack in 2006 & due to some of my injuries , which included a broken neck , & three vertabra in my back , a broken leg & a broken arm & last but not least a frontal lobe brain injury i have comeback ok , as i work for myself & can do everything , not quite as well as before , but i'm ok & it certainly improved my patience factor !! , Brian your lessons are great , & blues music is my favorite genre , as i was living the blues for a while , so music is great therapy Brian well for thats the way it goes , so Brian thankyou & i will make the effort to apply myself in a more patient manner & use the good value that the course supplies & after much searching i do think that your course is one of the best value for money thats available , so take care Brian & i'll keep practicing

      +Les Jackson! Hey Les, no need to apologize, I was just trying to explain why some of these older lessons moved too fast. Thank God TH-cam allows us no time limits on video content, so we can leave as much information in the video as is necessary. Glad to hear that you're enjoying the blues course and learning the guitar, even after your injuries, that's very admirable. Feel free to reach out any time you feel stuck or frustrated!

    Hendrix was blues inspired - i don't think anyone would disagree with that. However, that doesn't mean he was limited to ONLY blues.. Hendrix would often work in his famous pedal steel licks (which have a heavy country influence) into songs like Wind Cries Mary.

    As it stands now, it's $5 for access to ALL jam tracks and ALL tablature on the site. Jam tracks are the MP3 files that you play along with to practice. Do you think that's unreasonable?

  • @activemelody
    @activemelody  12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's not modeled on any song in particular.. I just made it up to demonstrate Keith's style of playing.

  • @activemelody
    @activemelody  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @rasputin173 It used to be free - for over a year.. but last month I had to start charging a small one time fee of $5 for access to ALL jam tracks and tab on activemelody - mainly because my monthly bandwidth charges continued to rise. Unfortunately I can't edit these videos since they're live on TH-cam.

    I read Keith's autobiography (Life) and in there, I believe I read that he did play a lot of songs in open G. Then, because the bottom bass 6th string is a D, he eventually took it off and played with just five strings ...i.e., GDGBD. That way, now he has G as the bass note. It worked for him.

    yes keith always set his telecaster to open-G. the only exception was the studio version of "ANGIE"which was standard tuning.ive been playing for 25 years and ive just recently found the key to "LOVE IN VAIN". trying to play any lead tac ons in open-G is difficult but somehow keith does it. also check out the BLACK CROWES;the "STONES" clones as some call them.they also use open-G which is why they sound so much like the STONES. hope you love the music as much as i do...cool beans my man.

    Keith Richards style guitar playing is pretty cool because it isn't overly technical. During songs, some guitarists go off on a tangent and that is cool with me. But Richards always seems to stick with the song. He stays the course and adds his little pulloffs and hammer ons. I actually consider him to be more of a rhythm guitarist than a lead guitarist but he can do it both. But for beginners, listening to Keith Richards is cool because they can say, "Hey, with enough practice I can do that!"

  • @lorenzino1
    @lorenzino1 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi ! I write that a little bit late, but you're completly right, he's playing it with a standard tuning, not an open G. Many persons think that, like Keith richards is often using an open G, that he's doing that for all the songs. I've learned many of the Rolling Stones' songs, and often he's tuning his Telecaster with a standard tuning.But often,the guys are thinking beeing good just cause they think knowing how he's tuning his guitar. YOU are right ! Just wanted to tell you that. BYE !

  • @rdoetjes
    @rdoetjes 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's right. His string gauges are a bit odd as well .011, .015, .018(p), .030 and .042 he uses a normal thick E string as the the lowest G. That's how he gets that enormous body out of the chords. When you use .010 or .009 strings you never get that same body.

      +Active Melody hey, Brain, the fact that you're genuinely replying people's feedbacks on a video you made 5 years ago really touched me. For me, I think it shows that you're such dedicated and truly genuine/kind teacher. Don't even mention your humbleness and talents as a person and guitar player. I have to admit that I'm not a premium member at the website based on the fact that I'm still a student. But I have been following your lessons for a while now and I really learned a lot from you.
