I personally don't care much for Gene Simmons, but I'd never call him a mediocre bass player. You obviously don't play bass. Gene was really good and modeled his playing after Paul McCartney.

One of my favorite tv moments is when Iron Maiden appeared on a German television program and the producers wanted them to pretend to play Wasted Years to a recorded track. The boys in Maiden decided to fuck around and not take it at ll seriously by constantly changing places during the segment.
