I can't speak to how good of an engineer you are but you are a great teacher! You knew exactly which points to hit and the why questions just made themselves known. Many factorio tutorial videos spend far too much time on why something works when the why questions almost answer themselves if the teacher is good enough. Thank you!
OMG...THANK YOU! As a long time Factorio player, I'm finding I was utterly confused trying to work out what the hell to do after I built the first Rocket Silo in the new Space Age add-on. The logistics / full stacks / return pods / cargo station...I just could not make sense of it. Your video has brought the perfect balance to understand how to setup your first space platform. The in-game tutorial tip on this subject was totally unhelpful, and even experienced players like myself will struggle if you try to 'go it alone'. Great work my man :)
@@max_dee I know exactly how you feel, I've played many at least 100 hours of original factorio and after launching my first space platform I was completely lost and confused as to what to do next. Even hitting tab to access remote view took me a while to figure out
Uncrushed rocks start to clog up the crushers, just unload them into the harvester with a filter, so they can be crushed again. Not having a cargo lander on the planet will work, but they will just plop down somewhere near your starting position, where you can pick them up by hand. Its a convenient thing to have one.
I ended up using a mixed belt for the rocks the arms collect, that belt just circles around the space platform. Ice seems to be the limiting factor, so i have 6 arms dedicated to ice, and two arms that grab all 3. Thousands of space science pretty easily. My limiting factor for research is back on Nauvis with the blue sciences at the moment. Oh: the crushers sometimes fail and output back out what when in -- i just use filter insert to put that rock back onto the mixed belt and the crushers will get another turn at it the next time it comes around the mixed belt loop.
7:08 Using filters like that doesn't work. The crusher jams up & stops working if the uncrushed item remains un-extracted. You either have to loop it back in with belts & inserters, or jettison it into space with belts & inserters.
yeah idk how u made that work. i ended up building : inserter with blacklist chunk going from crusher to assemblers for science and then inserter with blacklist ice cube going onto little belt loop with a inserter back into crusher . so the chunks go onto lil belt loop and back into crusher to be crushed again
@@Mikeonyoutube37-on3ug Sorry this wasn't shown well because I hadn't encountered an asteroid clog. Check out my spaceship guide you'll see how I deal with asteroids. I fed them backwards into a seperate belt to go back into the crusher.

Thank you very much. I was really pissed off because of waiting to get my requester chests until I get the space science. I think devs went to far with my patience.
Thank you because I kept flying myself back up to the platform because I had no idea what to do. The first thing I did was accidentally ship all my platforms back to the planet because I shift-clicked them. Then I sent all the unprocessed ore back and realized it was useless, I guess? Then I figured that I could make white science from the stuff with a crusher but I didn't know that you could use the platform on the planet or that it could automatically ask for something. 😮💨 They need to make the game help more with this. It's super confusing.
I dunno about you factorio pros, but to someone new, it was SUPER unintuitive that you could just immediately press e to build automatically. I think if you've played factorio for 8 years, sure you've been doing all your construction via drones and remote building, sure it makes sense. I personally stared at my blank space station going "wtf do I do" for way too long, maybe I'm just dumb... I even launched my character up there to see if that's how to build
I don't know what kind of brain lapse I was going through but I honestly didn't think to try pressing E while viewing my new space platform. I just kept trying to open the hub and click and drag things.
@@DataEngineerPlays honestly, the dlc does a terrible job of introducing its game mechanics, it took me way to long to understand how to build and even now its just strange without a reason
yes, the guide did help. Carbon, ice and iron plates, bung them into the assembler, white science comes out. Makes me wonder why can't I do that planetside? Take water, freeze it, refine coal or solid fuel into carbon.
I wonder why I can't create man made lakes... I have water.... I can reach space, surely I can dig the ground and add water to it and make a moat around my base
@@DataEngineerPlays I mean yeah that does make sense. After all, there's all sorts of fun speculation on what we might be able to do in microgravity.
