Agree there should be a wrist strap connection directly on the camera. Also agree that the best camera is often the one you have with you. I have the "pocket" with me all the time and am capturing content I would never take the time to capture in the past. Finally, agree the VERY BEST FEATURE of the OSMO Pocket is the fact that it is so small that no-one notices you when you are filming. You can get people acting naturally vs. staring at, or posing for, the camera. There is nothing on the market that is so small and inconspicuous ... that's a big deal!
YES!!! You nailed it. Content is key and this thing makes it easy. Thank you for watching, you’re words are very valuable to me and I’m glad you felt the same.
great stuff came here from think media link to get more info looking for something to make hidden walking video i think this could be just the job, unless there's something you could recommend that might suit walking making video with hidden recorder
I have edited a video in the DJI Mimo app that was shot in 1080p, but then when I generate the video which creates a local copy, it creates it in 720p. Any idea? Have you used the Mimo app to edit videos?
I think so. Hit up www.dronesmadeeasy.com and ask when they plan to release their version. Let them know you came from here in case they were wondering.
I've alway been intrigued with videography and wished I started this years ago but I finally purchased my first DJI spark a few months ago and loved the endless capabilities of capturing life's moments! And after watching your videos I will soon be a proud owner of the DJI Osmo Pocket in a few days, thank you for the informative video's and keep them rolling I'm going to need all the tips & ticks to improve my videography skills :)
I got an Osmo Pocket earlier today and I'm very impressed with its performance and functionality. To me this is a legitimate B-roll monster. While watching this video I had it on face tracking - tracking your face - and had a play with it. It worked great. Next week I'll be shooting an indie music video largely with a Moza Air 2 gimbal and Fujifilm X-T3, and plan to supplement the footage with B-roll and slow motion sequences from the Osmo Pocket.
I am trying to just do a hyper lapse from home to work, and want the camera to look straight ahead, but when I turn left or right, the gimbal then stays in the position and no longer is filming POV. I have it secured on my windshield with a phone, and suction mount. I hope this makes sense, and sorry if this is a silly question. THANKS so much !! BTW, excellent video
Sorry for the dumb question. I'm not a very tech-savvy guy but if I was to purchase one of these could I purely use it with my Samsung Galaxy S9 telephone ?
hi I need help when I shoot with my osmo pocket there are some round rings appearing in the video , like ripples in water , why is it and how can I fix it ? thank you so for the help .
So what is your thoughts on the Removu - K1? Has wifi , tripod mount and larger screen. Yes it is larger but seems to be an all in one right out of the box.
My main bug with the pocket is the very loud audio beep at the start of a video and the double beep at the end. There are over 80 people complaining about the beep on the DJI site most are saying they will move there pockets on if this issue is not fixed via a firmware update. In this respect the pocket is years behind every phone and digital camera. If a firmware update does not come out to remove the beep I along with many others will be moving the pocket on. DJI say the issue is being looked at by there R&D department.
I had bought the Osmo Pocket. Bought the wireless adaptor. I updated the firmware when I activated it. I cannot keep the bluetooth connected. Everytime the camera connects with the Mimo software it disconnects right waway. So frustrated
yeah I'm really waiting for accessories like lenses to get a wider view as you said. But it could be great to have a wide lens that integreat "nd filters", like a 2 in one lens. and what about underwated accessories?
Thank for this...and agree with most of your comments! We purchased just before Christmas and really wanted to love this thing, but (so far) only find it OK. Most disappointing ; dynamic range not too great, and FOV (need to either be 6’6” with arm length to match or if not, hold your arm straight out all the time if vlogging). It is however a small camera, relatively discreet (significant) and with quite good video in most cases. Face tracking works well and found panorama feature useful. Another tool. For our needs if we didn’t already have an action camera we would buy that first and this later.
After watching the entire video you do make a great point on who uses this device... last year we had the dji mobile and used it often till I got tired of it because when you have the extension stick and tripod foot mount... the osmo mobile becomes a little bigger than what we want... gave that to my kids... now this comes out and the size if perfect...
I just got mine today. And after watching this video, I knew that somehow I didn’t make a mistake of buying this. I have watched the video until the end, and yes, I felt like it was a good bang for the buck. Thank you for this video. Salute!
Thanks , even after watching maybe 30 vloggers and using it for 3 trips . I have issues to have better experience which are . First : gimbal is good , not as good as the big one , but it do the job expect if you are shooting front of you are walking . It moves up and down a little . I solve it by shooting only side view I don’t want to walk like ninja , even if I’m one of them ;). Second I have order wheel but the cover will not close with it and I should not lose the lighting connection. Third small form factor is very big plus . It show others I’m normal :) .Forth : the sound of clock when you switch to or from selfie mode is extremely Loud and everybody asked me ... what is that sound Last : not of the video I watch talk about how to take best forages ie when to you FPV or follow me or ... they are talk the same ... Those are my main points and thank you again
When I was walking around sea world I had it in my jacket pocket without the case. It felt ok but I was also cautious. I know a couple companies coming out with a small gimbal case which will be the way to go.
Great vid. I have an Osmo Pocket and I am impressed so far. I am also new to all this and would love to hear more tips from you how to use it. Your vids are a great teaching tool and you teach well.
Its the true portability that sold it for me. I have the original Osmo (now being sold) and the big downside of that camera was the inbuilt audio - it was unusable. I have found the Pocket audio to be acceptable and I have been using it exclusively for the past two weeks with mainly excellent results. The only downside I have really found is the noise in low lighting conditions. This camera does not perform well in low light.
I completely agree about the size being king. I had a shoot in Hawaii last week and my camera kit shrunk considerably since the last trip. I just to travel with an I2, 5D mk4 and lots of lenses but no more. Instead it was a GH5, several tiny lenses, M2 pro and the Osmo Pocket and though there are some compromises, overall having everything in one backpack was killer considering the hiking and moving around we had to do.
Excellent review. I think the biggest takeaway was your comment about taking something with you or not to video. The extreme portability with all the features you outlined makes this a no-brainer. Thank again.
You've covered a lot! Except the overheating temperature issue, unchangeable built-in battery, & maybe lack of small wheel for zooming capability in order to be All-in-one!
Haven’t run into those issues yet but noted a lot of things people are complaining about. As I encounter more pros and cons, I’ll be making a more follow up videos. Thanks for watching.
Great review thanks for sharing. You pretty much summed up the Osmo Pocket pretty well. It's ok for certain video/vlogging styles. I'll be sticking to my GoPro Hero 7 Black for the time being because of it's durability and versatility. Totally agree re the wrist strap. Cheers.
Really good vid, I've had the pocket for about 3 weeks now and love it. Haven't used it much yet but plan on getting into it more. I agree with you about the not have a wrist strap or tripod mount, those were the first things that went through my head as well.
As you say the MKII will probably fix the missing hardware elements, but that will be a year down the road and we can produce a lot of content with the MKI in that year!
Wow, you covered this very well, from all angles, Aldryn! From the history of gimbals and stabilization to a review of the device itself, you told a clear story and put into perspective the good and bad aspects of the unit! So. Well. Done! I had to laugh when you said you don’t care about the case - you care about the camera! Yes, me too, it just struck me amusing how you presented it. It is clear to see that you’re passionate about the topic, and we benefit from that passion! Great job!
As usual, great review with some great points. I can’t think of a gadget that I need less but want more! I wish they’d hurry up and release the accessories. When I get mine I’ll be sending you the case to drill the hole.
In all these reviews, why does nobody seem to tell you that it can't be activated without a phone connection, and if you have a (older?) Samsung phone, this is impossible because there is no Micro USB connector included. Also, you also can't update the firmware.
Nice review as always. Loved the comparison aspect. Just bought the DJI Mobile not too long ago and from the day I got it I've been thinking it was too big for what I wanted to do. Have been thinking about exchanging it for the GoPro gimbal but having second thoughts now.
Thanks Jamil. Ya nobody is really talking about how revolutionary the gimbal has come and I felt it should be mentioned. The other gimbals are just too big for casual use and this is where the Pocket will shine.
Would it be best to just use your cell phone camera than to buy this? I notice the auto-focus is not that great (even with the updates) and it's not good in low light.
Discovered your channel a few months ago, really enjoy your reviews, very informative and to the point! Also enjoy seeing bits of San Diego (our favorite vacation destination), keep up the great work!
Spot On Aldryn! I feel you've covered most the ins and outs as with some of the good and bad. For a first generation camera of this size, I think they did a good job, but a lot of the items you mention are coming as accessories, that's what I'm not happy about. A friend of my has fallen in love with his, and it is using it all the time due to its small size, portability. The one thing he has been complaining about is the battery not being replaceable, he has to carry a battery bank to keep shooting. Thanks for the helpful review and your finding so far. Will be looking for your further reports on the DJI Pocket OSMO.
Aldryn, the best review on the Osmo pocket of them all. Not comparing it tho the GoPro was smart, all the points that you mentioned are on the spot. Great job
I agree with you. At the end the best camera is the one you have with you, and if that small thing will help me to have a camera at all times, in my book it´s a win. I agree on seeing it from the perspective of how far they´ve come. Of course is not perfect and a lot is marketing unfortunatelly, but with simple things you can solve that if you have an issue. The quality is pretty good and it gives you pretty stable footage... so many youtubers critique so much but creat so little, they only critique but they dont really create much so not fair I think.
Awesome review ... very helpful I watch already many reviewers but you cover everything and very honest ... great work bro... I hope they will add 240 FPS slow on or wider lens options also I want larger pano and hoping next firmware update will give us more options
Wow, awesome informative video. I really like you pointing out the small yet important shortcomings at release day as well as overall misses. Nevertheless I also love the Osmo Pocket and carry it with me anywhere I go. Keep your great reviews up; am looking forward to the next one.
Awesome review, went out and got it after watching reviews like yours and I love this camera. Yes there are improvements DJI should make, but for now, like the wide angle lens adaptor, I can still live with this product! Mahalo for your videos, keep um coming!
Thanks for being mostly positive and opening peoples eyes to where gimbals have gone and are headed. I already have my pocket and I still watch reviews on it but a lot of other videos were making me hate it lol.
Let me start out by saying I’m not a professional. I’m a Grandpa shooting videos of grandkids and family in general and posting to social media. I too am disappointed they did not design a way to tether the camera instead of the case. I signed up for a notification when the expansion kit comes out. I got notification yesterday that the thumb wheel is available. So I jumped on it. Not only did the wheel cost $59 but also $15 to ship it making it a $74 purchase. The expansion kit still is not out. I would rather have gotten that and maybe qualified for free shipping. I hope this doesn’t turn into a nickel and dime you to death situation. Why not have everything ready to go and launch everything together.
Great review. And three things that really irritate me with this device. The strap... like wtf we’re they thinking? Put a strap on the case but not on the device, because of it’s size, the device ( I can drop the case a gazillion times and it wouldn’t concern me) will eventually suffer a drop... not a matter of if, it’s a matter of time... ( my only solution to this is to purchase (which I never do!) an extended protection warranty that includes a free repair for a one time accidental drop or a one time non scheduled swim... that’s about $30) The accessories... I can’t find any anywhere... 😡😡😡... we love the device, it’s functions, size and all BUT.. it would be a better device if the accessories were available the same time the device was. The rotary dial, remote and anything that enables us to mount the device on a tripod would be great... and finally... unless I totally missed it, there seems to be NO zoom function... not as irritating as my first 2 complaints, but it would be nice if it had this ability.... Like most “modern” tech companies... it seems to me they all share the same attitude towards consumers nowadays... let’s bring out a good product and let’s figure out all the bad crap about it AFTER people start buying the device.... no one seems to care about releasing a total package nowadays... it’s all about making the most amount of money for the least amount of time. Like most things nowadays, what can be made with this and that doesn’t get made with this and that... They would rather we pay extra for the this and that... like a small hole perhaps on the device so we are able to attach a strap.... but no, now we need someone to make that “extra” so we can buy it and be able to put a strap on the device....🤦♂️ And that idea of 3D printing ur own base mount seems like a great idea... pls link a site with plans perhaps?
people like to hate this device but for the content it can produce without any other device , the price point, imagine getting content just wearing casual clothes omg. what do these people need? the PERFECT camera???? geez appreciate it. you can buy 300-ish camera that needs a ton of accessories as well that you cant pocket it. THERE IS NO PERFECT CAMERA. i just got out after waking up and it was the perfect sunrise, i shot my timelapse proceeded with motion lapse got my b-roll and great content without twitching a finger. that is F*cking amazing!
@Lon Denard when the mobile, Osmo, and most of the drones support the feature it is just a little disappointing that this incredible little camera does not
FlytPath DJI has been avoiding the question in their message boards. I think it may have been an oversight on their part. I hope they get it figured out as it is an awesome little camera and Facebook & TH-cam live on this device would be awesome for events
Doubt its an oversight. They just release features once it's been tested enough, just like they do with their drones. Thats a software update that would be something I can see in a future firmware.
agreed. great video but not as "polished" as like Tom or even Marques and he isn't as polished. talks fast and lots of ums and ands. however. the content is great on here!!!!
the content is good. You are very patient in your videos...its a good thing. Tom is my favorite. so clean and polished and professional. but you are right up there. and yes. you are getting better! you do things from a personal perspective. which is nice
Good grief, an intelligent review of the Pocket which puts is into a proper context - many thanks. I forget whether I have mentioned it to you before but I'm using a cheap spring-loaded mic stand clip to hold mine, with a thread adapter for tripod etc mounting, or I can use a compact 6" high mic stand direct, which also gives me a weighted handle to add even more stability particularly in the up/down plane that the gimbal doesn't cover. And then I can attach it to a 9' pole to enable me to "fly" the Pocket around - no laws against that!
Will definitely wait for the Pocket Plus! IMO the Pocket miss quick swapping of batteries and a simple 1/4 tripod thread at the bottom? Lots of incoming accessories I know but hate to bring a "Lego-set" on the go. Nevertheless it´s a very neat little gimbal. Intresting to hear your thoughts about it. Thumbs up man!
You are right about this Pocket. I'm loving mine. It fulfills the best camera is the one you have with you. Most of us regular people are more likely to have this camera with us. I just put it in my pocket going out the door. I do like using my smartphone with it too but it was a bit cumbersome. Well, I found a 3d print, made a few modes and come up with this. Here is some pics. photos.app.goo.gl/ZjeBujBE8UGU5fNz7
Thank you for watching, you’re words are very valuable to me and I’m glad you felt the same.
turn off face tracking (go to POV) mode if you want to capture others in the frame
great stuff came here from think media link to get more info looking for something to make hidden walking video i think this could be just the job, unless there's something you could recommend that might suit walking making video with hidden recorder
I have edited a video in the DJI Mimo app that was shot in 1080p, but then when I generate the video which creates a local copy, it creates it in 720p. Any idea? Have you used the Mimo app to edit videos?
Do you think it would be possible to get another one of those stands?
I think so. Hit up www.dronesmadeeasy.com and ask when they plan to release their version. Let them know you came from here in case they were wondering.
CAN YOU RECOMMEND THE BEST MICRO SD CARD TO USE FOR THE OSMO POCKET FOR 4K60FPS
I've alway been intrigued with videography and wished I started this years ago but I finally purchased my first DJI spark a few months ago and loved the endless capabilities of capturing life's moments! And after watching your videos I will soon be a proud owner of the DJI Osmo Pocket in a few days, thank you for the informative video's and keep them rolling I'm going to need all the tips & ticks to improve my videography skills :)
Awesome video dude, thank you.
Can you compare it with Xiaomi Fimi Palm and DJI OSMO Pocket ..
Thank you
I don't have the palm
I got an Osmo Pocket earlier today and I'm very impressed with its performance and functionality. To me this is a legitimate B-roll monster.
While watching this video I had it on face tracking - tracking your face - and had a play with it. It worked great.
Next week I'll be shooting an indie music video largely with a Moza Air 2 gimbal and Fujifilm X-T3, and plan to supplement the footage with B-roll and slow motion sequences from the Osmo Pocket.
Hey, witch fps do you prefer when i shot a travel / cinematic video? 23, 25, 30, 50 or 60? And what is the different?
I am trying to just do a hyper lapse from home to work, and want the camera to look straight ahead, but when I turn left or right, the gimbal then stays in the position and no longer is filming POV. I have it secured on my windshield with a phone, and suction mount. I hope this makes sense, and sorry if this is a silly question. THANKS so much !! BTW, excellent video
Finally, someone that doesn't want to compare the Pocket to a GoPro. Thank you.
ericcif68 you’re welcome. They are different types of cameras
Sorry for the dumb question. I'm not a very tech-savvy guy but if I was to purchase one of these could I purely use it with my Samsung Galaxy S9 telephone ?
What do you mean purely? Like yes you can connect it to the phone.
@@FlytPathThank's for the reply. You answered my question. 👍👍
@@FlytPath Are you sure it is on their compatible list, with USB C socket?
hi I need help when I shoot with my osmo pocket there are some round rings appearing in the video , like ripples in water , why is it and how can I fix it ? thank you so for the help .
How long before the next version of this model do you think? I hate buying something, just to have the new version come out a month later.
So what is your thoughts on the Removu - K1? Has wifi , tripod mount and larger screen. Yes it is larger but seems to be an all in one right out of the box.
Haven't played with one so I can't compare.
Thanks, Sir for making awesome content for us 💖
Thanks for watching

you can turn this off in the settings if you swipe down and enter the settings.

You sir are the GOAT of reviews
nice job covering. Really wish there was a tripod mount.
Me too

Well presented!
I think I will try a small zip tie around the body for the safety strap.... as long as it fits into the case!
Hi!
Not a bad idea,
but the hole should not be made with a drill but with a leather punch!
I used what I had.
How robust is it? Will I break it while stuffing it into my jacket pocket? Is it so fragile that the gimble is toast when you drop it on the grass?
When I was walking around sea world I had it in my jacket pocket without the case. It felt ok but I was also cautious. I know a couple companies coming out with a small gimbal case which will be the way to go.
Great vid. I have an Osmo Pocket and I am impressed so far. I am also new to all this and would love to hear more tips from you how to use it. Your vids are a great teaching tool and you teach well.

I thought the Osmo Pocket was basically the camera and gimbal from the Mavic Air not the Mavic Pro? The Sony sensor part numbers match.

I think the footage from my o.p. Is way better when I watch it on my iPad but then I see o.p. Footage on TH-cam and it doesn’t look so hot
great point and idea for a wide angle
Great VIDEO! I agree about the tripod mount and the wrist strap. I think they had their head in the clouds on that.

I know... was kidding
I found out that if I video at 4K, i can't download it to my iPhone 6S+ because it's not a 4K phone. :(
In all these reviews, why does nobody seem to tell you that it can't be activated without a phone connection, and if you have a (older?) Samsung phone, this is impossible because there is no Micro USB connector included. Also, you also can't update the firmware.

I totally agree about the strap, I was like who forgot the strap hole👍 You raise some valid points.

I just bought this camera and thought the same thing about the strap. I guess they figure people will keep it in the case most of the time.

Not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. Lol
Great commentary.

Exactly my thoughts
Perfect. Point by point!! Hi from Brazil!!!
Great video and information bit on the expensive side 👍👍🇬🇧
RODPIKER agree. It took me some use to justify the bakue
I love that you said "if you wanted to video tape yourself", ahh those were the days eh?
Anything "video tape" would work better than this POS!
lots of info. Happy 2019 Thank you for caring about us
Thanks Mary
Awesome review ... very helpful I watch already many reviewers but you cover everything and very honest ... great work bro... I hope they will add 240 FPS slow on or wider lens options also I want larger pano and hoping next firmware update will give us more options
Wow, awesome informative video. I really like you pointing out the small yet important shortcomings at release day as well as overall misses.
Nevertheless I also love the Osmo Pocket and carry it with me anywhere I go.
Keep your great reviews up; am looking forward to the next one.
Thanks Marco
Awesome review, went out and got it after watching reviews like yours and I love this camera. Yes there are improvements DJI should make, but for now, like the wide angle lens adaptor, I can still live with this product! Mahalo for your videos, keep um coming!
Thanks for being mostly positive and opening peoples eyes to where gimbals have gone and are headed. I already have my pocket and I still watch reviews on it but a lot of other videos were making me hate it lol.
I know right. But I think this thing is revolutionary and for sure it’s amazing for its size and capabilities.
John W Adcock ya like I mentioned I’m not a fan of all these accessories when some of these should really be built in or included.
Since this video, lots of accessories have become available. You can even get kit packages.
I’ve been holding off for weeks now but this video helped big time with my decision. Thank you as always for the review of cool stuff 👍✌️😇😎🙏👌🏻
Well put.
Nice video thank you for sharing stay safe stay healthy stay connect good luck for you you have a wonderful day new friend support
Hi first thank you for the video and your time
But this video is not a bout osmo pocket, its a bout gimbals In general
Im building a custom harness for my cat to wear the dji pocket to see why he comes home every day with tuna on his breath.....
( my only solution to this is to purchase (which I never do!) an extended protection warranty that includes a free repair for a one time accidental drop or a one time non scheduled swim... that’s about $30)
The accessories...
They would rather we pay extra for the this and that... like a small hole perhaps on the device so we are able to attach a strap.... but no, now we need someone to make that “extra” so we can buy it and be able to put a strap on the device....🤦♂️
And that idea of 3D printing ur own base mount seems like a great idea... pls link a site with plans perhaps?
people like to hate this device but for the content it can produce without any other device , the price point, imagine getting content just wearing casual clothes omg. what do these people need? the PERFECT camera???? geez appreciate it. you can buy 300-ish camera that needs a ton of accessories as well that you cant pocket it. THERE IS NO PERFECT CAMERA. i just got out after waking up and it was the perfect sunrise, i shot my timelapse proceeded with motion lapse got my b-roll and great content without twitching a finger. that is F*cking amazing!
Please change the color of the table ^^
Clever little camera ... I bought one but it really is just too small ... sold it no problem.
15$ ulanzi wide angle lens is fantastic
I love your vids
I appreciate you 🙏
Fantastic review! You got a like, subscribe, and bell alert. I have one, it’s my first video camera. It is a fun to use little cam!
A little disappointing that they didn't include Facebook or youtube live either
@Lon Denard when the mobile, Osmo, and most of the drones support the feature it is just a little disappointing that this incredible little camera does not
It's a software thing, so I anticipate it working in the future when connected to your phone.
I haven't seen anyone review this from inside their pocket .
agreed. great video but not as "polished" as like Tom or even Marques and he isn't as polished. talks fast and lots of ums and ands. however. the content is great on here!!!!
The fact you even mentioned Marques. I'll take that. Thanks for the comments and I hope to progress with every video.
the content is good. You are very patient in your videos...its a good thing. Tom is my favorite. so clean and polished and professional. but you are right up there. and yes. you are getting better! you do things from a personal perspective. which is nice
I appreciate that man@@Graemehatz
@@FlytPath anytime. keep growing. keep it up!!! love the Pocket Osmo
Excellent video...but you frequently talk way too fast.
Noted. I have lots to say when I get excited.
Uh, didn't want a history lesson or general information........ wanted an in-depth review and how-to for this specific item..........
Thanks Stan and great hearing from you again. Makes me feel good knowing a lot of you were having similar experiences.
