Barbra is a legend in her own time. She is one of the most significant talents of the 20th and 21st Centuries. I adore her and the part her work has played in my life. She will never be forgotten.
Love, love this interview. When she stands on the stage of the Winter Garden Theatre and looks out at the house (where the audience sits), I wanna tear up: Years ago I saw the 23-year-old Barbra play the Funny Girl!! I was 17 years old, and I still remember--the magic, the many magical moments. Unforgettable. I am blessed, I know. :)
I'm black. My mother really loved the early Streisand (early to mid '60's). To this day I can still remember at age ten seeing that TV special in '63 on CBS with her and Judy Garland. LikeThe Beatles in '64 on Ed Sullivan, that Special is etched in my brain for some reason.
Great interview back where the star was born on Broadway. I may agree with her that talent is not beauty. Talent may be beautiful or not. Barbra Streisand is the beauty she has birthed into the world in music movies and acts of generosity and kindness. Luv luv luv you❤❤❤
She is fantastic! Never seen or known someone as great as this woman, she is incredible. She is strong but vulnerable too. And I love her relationship with God.
Not only a superstar, she is just an incredibly intellectual and beautiful human being. When she speaks the word sensitive, and talks about her mother, we all realize she is missing something lacking of which usually renders people powerless. She turned it into a power. She does not change at all since the beginning. I may hate everything American but I love her existence, and I am so lucky sharing the place and time with her. God bless Barbra, no matter what kind of god you may be.
Im watching this 3 days before Barbra turns 80. Still the greatest star. She reigns supreme. Long live the Queen! Not Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Diana BARBRA is #1
I saw her in Funny Girl when I was about 25 years old -- had front row seats due to a good friend. I will NEVER forget that performance. I have been a fan ever since. She is truly amazing. Re: Her mother not "encouraging" her - I grew up in the Midwest in a German/American background and I never got encouragement. It only made me stronger!!
I was 17 when I was fortunate enough to see Funny Girl; I had a good seat (but not the front row!); and like Lois, Barbra's performance, that occasion, are in my "memory bank" forever. I still remember individual moments, like when she stopped the show with "People," and the audience just kept applauding. Barbra just stood there, at the bottom of some stairs, in character, staring at the audience, but not "seeing" them; because she was Fanny. Ah, memories..!
I was wrong when I said "front row" but I would guess it was about 10 rows back , in the middle. I have yet to ever have such good seats at any live production, anywhere since. And keep in mind, I had moved to NY only about three years early from the Mid West. I was in awe of everything. It is still my favorite city!
Lois, I would say we're two of "the luckiest people in the world"! I've had many people sigh with envy and amazement and say, "You actually saw her live on Broadway?" and I'll bet you have also! Cheers!
I never thought of her as odd looking but I can relate to her how she was cut down by her parents as a child. I was too and those words are worse than anything you can image from your parents. My mother was very cruel and jealous to me as a child. I know her Mom was very jealous of her because those words would have never been said.
I've loved Barbra ever since I can remember. Then, last year, she put out "Walls" where she effectively gets political for the first time in her career and (wait for it) it is brilliant. I bought many copies of "Walls" for my friends and my parents. Barbra climbed up another rung on the ladder of respect and appreciation.
Barbra has been 'effectively political' for many years, long before her album WALLS. I personally tend to agree with her politics. But, whether or not one agrees with her, she has always spoken her mind and has long put her money where her mouth is. She has also given away more money to charity than possibly any other entertainer, except possibly Frank Sinatra and Dustin Hoffman.
I've loved her since I was a kid when I first saw the movie Funny Girl. She made me feel that I could be beautiful too. I always thought she was beautiful in that movie and still is. ,She is such a great talent. I'm so happy she found a wonderful person (James Brolin) to share her life. 💟
I must say she is one hell of a perfect vocalist when she sings The Way We Were it was my husband and mine sing we fell in love with it and have been married for 49 years!! I can honestly say: I do not care where We are wedding reception for example I can be speaking with someone and he getting us something to drink and inevitably we look for each other and smile!!❤
Shes captivated me since I watched "The Way We Were" as a child with my mother! My mother never liked her.............said she sounded like a cat. I thought she's just the best and I have never faltered this opinion!
to misplace them for giving every person who resembled her goals a lot of people don't realize being a small Southern child specially being transgender and being told you look like Barbra Streisand first was in the most easiest thing to her until I decided to start learning more about Barbra Streisand I now consider it a great privilege that I resemble this woman so much and the fact that she has done more for my life than I ever will know mistress and if you ever do see this from a little transgender girl from Pensacola Florida and now lives in Las Vegas Nevada God bless you and thank you so much for making an ugly duckling feel like a swan every time I saw you love always Selena Scott
Barbra never let anyone put her into a box. She didn't change her appearance and march to her own drum. You never heard of going to rehab and she is still rich. A strong independent woman.
We can find a lot to admire in a seasoned performer who long ago got past the need for attention and adulation. She shows enormous grace and intelligence when looking at the arc of her career with real objectivity. She's a very real person. BTW: take a good look at the sun graphic at the very end of this.
What an amazing career. My thoughts were always what an interesting face, beautiful because it made you look and look again and again. The Power to draw you closer
I LOVED Funny girl that is one of my favorite movie musicals. The interviewer was annoying, I felt like he was dragging the topic about Barbara's father. And the way he would ask the questions was in this kind of smart alec attitude like way.
One of things that's makes us a threat is you're early years are the 1960s and mine are the 1980s. You're a Star and I'm a Corporate Talent. Inside I'm starting to laugh. I just wish there wasn't this "other earth" dichotomy we have to live through. But at least we come back here
To Barbara. I was told that the United States would like to make a bunch of you Billionaires so you can own and invest in Mexico in a way they won't and you can't right now. (As well as other parts of the world) but you have to have some loyalty to the United States in 2024 as they want to be sure the quality keeps going up as the television industry is critical to our intellect and IQ. Love, Don xoxo
@ 03:41 Ohhhh Barb. That is a very pretty drawing of you and its from your 'good side' that you always refer too. LOL so the first thing she notices as if judgmental or not liking are the lips in the picture. It's a caricature drawing, just be glad he did not draw you with a huge Clown nose. It's a very pretty picture looks like it's from a Funny Girl Publicity picture taken of her from back then.

Intelligent, great sense of humor and an enormous amount of talent for one person.
No one will ever come close.... Human excellence.
freshair3451 in being so real. Every thing she says makes me cry: #METOO.
Anthony Mason is really great.
If there are several SUPERSTARS, ( which there are ) Barbra is a MEGASTAR!
Barbra is my idol. I've loved her for 50 years. She's so natural and I think she's beautiful.

To be jealous on one's own baby. I just don't get it. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Fabulous woman. Amazing artist. With insight into herself.

Babs has been "my girl" from almost as far back as I can remember. I was born over 16 years after my favorite celebrity/talent.
Barbra has been 'effectively political' for many years, long before her album WALLS. I personally tend to agree with her politics. But, whether or not one agrees with her, she has always spoken her mind and has long put her money where her mouth is. What she gives is totally from her heart!!

Guess we're not taking Jason and Bubbles to the Pompidou Center right now
Some male interviewers are so sexist. MikeWallis was just terrible.
I am reading her memoir now - it is SOOOO good!!!!

I'm a late bloomer (hoping my Star time is ahead). Yours is different than mine. Anyway, look forward to meeting
It killed me when they pronounced Sierra Boggess's name Siere Boges
It killed me when Sierra Boggess said "Barbra StreiZand".
When the Messiah appears Barbra is going to be his wife and Queen of Israel!!!
finally she's wearing something different
sheedy blu she goes to the charity shop once a fortnight.
I'm vaklempt x
Wait Sierra bogus???? Sierra boggess (ba-gess).....
she don`t look happy.
blauauge2 if u laugh all the time.they would take her away to a padded cell!
pls stop getting plastic surgery. You are loved without it!
Are you kidding me...she looks amazing...
She became a bore once she had Jason and moved west. No humor, naturalness, and voice became synthesized.
Nonsense.
@@markwhitman9542 glad you enjoy her. I’ll stick to early streisand, the part that created the legend.
