- My thoughts breaking down the recent trailer for EA's College Football 25, along with my thoughts on the other recently announced features such as Dynasty Mode and Team Builder.

I feel like EA deserves zero benefit of the doubt after all these years. Any trailer and information they release is marketing. The proof of the game is in the playing.
That's why I suggest at the end not to pre-order, but wait and see

There's no reason to assume it's nothing but a Madden reskin with it's focus on ultimate team and bare bone support for offline modes with monetization. You guys have to stop falling for EA and 2K they only care about your money, not making a good football game or simulation.
I am with TheMcD here and I will take his point even further. There is nothing in this trailer that sells me on this game. I don't care about the fluff. I care about how the menus work (or don't work with tons of lag) and how the game plays on the field. Everything else is superfluous. Giving them credit for how the lighting and all looks when they flat out tell you this is pre-rendedered stuff in the egine and may not (meaning it won't) appear in the game, is silly. The main thing everyone wants to know is how it looks on the field in actual gameplay, and you didn't get any. What you got is what Madden always does. They just show you a bunch of nearly no linear jump cuts to hide what is really going on. If you look at the reverse play, the camera cuts behind the QB, then the RB, and then to I assume a receiver. If you watch closely enough, you see a defender that would have blown the play up disappear before your very eyes.
This game is running on the stanky Frostbite engine and they have yet to do anything to correct ball trajectory. Why would they all of a sudden get it right now? And what would that say about the games that have been running on the Frostbite engine all long. Madden games could have done this by now, but they never did? Why?
EA hasn't just lost the benefit of the doubt, they've earned themselves credible doubt. They've flat out lied to this community for years. Broken promises numerous times over, and they've just laughed all the way to the bank.
Team Builder is also online only. That means when the servers go down, no more created teams. That's not what we want. I want the full game to be offline and not hidden behind an online server handshake. I want to be able to play a great game for years on end with all of its functions. Running through an online service means that there will be censoring.
The wear and tear function from NFL Head Coach 09 is back. Yay. Will that play into Madden 25? Will recruits from this college game be able to be imported in draft classes to Madden 25? Will team builder be a thing in Madden 25? What about the coaching tree? How will recruiting work? How will scouting work?
There is nothing in this trailer that convices me to buy it, much less pre order it for crazy money. They want me to pay $150 for this game, which I barely know anything about, and for Madden 25, and we don't even know anything about that game at all. Nope.

He's come down on MUT before multiple times before but at the end he's a football fan like all of us. He's not as bad as guys like MMG, he's not promoting MUT in any way by opening up card packs, he just wants to spread the news about the games. Although I do think the Underdog partnership should come to an end since it won't really help anyone in any positive way since most gambling just leads to wanting to make even more money from gambling. Some people can play responsibly but I'm curious as to what that number is when people start winning big and then go on a two to three week losing streak.

What I don’t like is using the same engine. That means the gameplay will not be good at all and too much rely on animations
I'm with you...I do think it's cool it's college though..But gameplay will probably be the same..I think just the college environments,stadiums,stuff like that make it different than Madden,and that's what I personally am looking forward to.

The only downside is that they’re using the madden engine. The game will still feel faster and different than madden and there are many developers from the original NCAA game series. It will be fine

I'm so jaded by Madden that I DGAF about CF25. The gameplay, the extremely small sample, looks just like Madden, which should worry everyone and I'm glad you pointed out the Madden-like gameplay.
I just think this is a marketing tool for UT packs for 100+ teams instead of 32, making it a larger customer size for CUT, College Ultimate Team.
I hope I'm wrong but I can't get excited because of how beaten down I am for years by Madden.

I'm not the biggest Madden fan but I'll admit it played well this year. If CFB25 can play like that but faster they can really nail this. I just think since it's been so long since the last game people may be expecting too much.
If we can just get a game with great presentation and mediocre gameplay we will have a product better then any madden game to come out in the last 8 years so I’m excited but also on guard

That’s my biggest worry with this franchise. It’ll be good this year, but Ultimate Team packs will make so much money that EA will have no incentive to make the game any better in the years following.
Exactly, all modes will be equal... until next year when all offline modes are copy and paste with 0 effort put into fixing everything that will be wrong with this years mode. This game is the initial investment by EA. After this funding will go back down to yearly roster update levels and small fixes for online play while the rest of the modes are left to die.

When I first saw the trailer I honestly said “this is the first time EA actually is taking something “in the right direction”” the traditions was what got me blown away. Plus seeing actual last names on players instead QB #10 or HB #20 got me hyped as well. Plus Welcome To The Jungle with the band instruments playing it in the background with it in the trailer was awesome. Plus TeamBuilder is back, a huge inclusion! I’m very interested in seeing how the dynasty and road to glory modes are over the summer. I’m going in cautiously but this is the first time in a long time im actually excited for an EA Sports Football game!

Pre-rendered cutscenes with graphics and lighting we know aren't even going to be in the game. They tell you that right up front. Heavily chopped up game footage that again, isn't running on the actual game, just whatever they rendered in the engine for this specific purpose, with hyper fast, not necessary jump cuts to hide all of the things they don't want you to see. You don't see how players organically move together, how they tackle. and what the ball physics are really like.
Not convinced. Slapping some lipstick cutscenes on a pig of a game is still a pig of a game.
I can't wait for this to be a reskined Madden with the same problems, predatory microtransactions, and exploits. Guys, this game is built using the same engine, assets, developer, and publisher. Never believe trailers; as a dev, I can assure you that "game engine footage" is miles away from "gameplay footage." Everything you mentioned, like better grass, is NOT an in-game representation.

@@SOFTDRINKTV The issue is that even if the depth, presentation, and attention to detail of older NCAA are fully recreated, the most crucial aspect, gameplay, is untouched. The old games didn't have 2K8 gameplay by any means, but they were still fun and fair, while recent Maddens are painful to play.

I think the 32 max player online dynasty could be good for giving each player plenty of options if they like moving around from school to school every few seasons and makes progression if everyone wants to start at a smaller school and work their way up.

This game is going to play 98% like Madden does with a few incredibly small differences here and there. Will it be cool to see some of the college intros, traditions, cut scenes etc.? Of course - but that wears off extremely quickly.

One of the things that kinda has me sold on the game is one of the Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Sports said this when talking about adding school traditions: "Every school is someone's favorite school.... Became kind of a rallying cry for us as a dev team." It makes me think that they're genuinely trying to give this game a fair shot. Hopefully more info will come out in the next two months before release. I'm excited to take Texas Tech to the Natty

In light this week's new info, I have to state the following: This game has a shot to unseat the great *NFL 2K5.* While the gameplay may still end up arguably inferior, I'm referring to the overall package (ie college recruiting, 9th gen graphics, etc) For myself, the main remaining question is, what level will the presentation be (ie no ESPN license) ?
I've been playing the College Football Revamped mod for awhile now and their updates slowed down cause a few of their guys ended up on this team making College Football 25 and it's really showing that they are helping make a good game for us

I think in one article they talked about they made an entire new lighting engine for this game.
One little thing i saw that im happy about is different pant lengths. It's pretty common to see players wear their pants above the knee. I hope we'll see other little details like double socks and exposed back plates as well.

Very good breakdown! The the presentation looks like it could potentially be amazing and maybe help them push Madden forward a little bit in that regard. A lot of the time was likely spent making new stadium models and player models. I think they had some people from the Revamped mod team working on the art direction, so that is promising as they tended to do a good job. Having 3 years to develop this would be enough time to have people working on actual gameplay as well and makes me wonder if the improvement in Maddens gameplay in 24 was them adding the adjustments with what they had done at the time for its launch.
EA realized Madden 09 & 10 lighting was great. Now going back after all these years. Only better. Let's hope game play is game breaking as well.

I think this game will be really fun. Maddens biggest problem isn’t necessarily the game play but the lack of depth and replay ability. As long as the details are there and the game modes are deep and fun then this will be a hit.

NCAA 25 looks like it's going to be a vast improvement over Madden. The graphics, lighting, and atmosphere are leaps above any Madden. Just a shame EA isn't doing a PS4 version of NCAA 25. Although strangely are still putting Madden 25 on PS4.

What about the game clock are they going to put in the acceleration clock or are they going to add the option to turn off the acceleration clock like in madden football games
I’m only 4:30 into this video but I tapped on it ready for him to tear apart every piece and crap all over it. It’s nice to finally hear the positive side and feel happy about a game for once. Can’t wait for the game to launch for the update

Yo Drink, I was reading the MVP Bundle pre order and madden is FINALLY GETTING A NEW PHYSICS SYSTEM AND UPDATES TO FRANCHISE AND OTHER MODES! Should I be hyped or nah. I hated Frost bite, so I’m kinda excited

Though the trailer is good, I like many other people are skeptical especially when it showed the MUT stuff at the end of trailer.
Also, props to you for adding NCAA 08 menu music. It honestly should have been used for this trailer tbh.
