  • My Mathmos Jet Lamp Just Refused To Flow After Working Perfectly Fine In the Few Weeks Before It Stopped Working. I purchased It Second Hand Around 4 Weeks Ago.
No Matter How Many Times I Turned the Lamp On To Try, It Just Wouldnt Flow! When Gently Nudged, It Would Flow For A Moment Then Stop Again.
I Noticed The Lava Had Bits In It That Started Appearing Recently. These Are Sealed Bottles So Who Knows How That Stuff Got In There But I Would Guess It Is Off The Metal Coil. I Was I Told I Need A New Coil... Id Rather Have A Go At Fixing Things Instead.
Anyhow, Here Is How I Filtered The Wax - Note This Will Not Filter Cloudy Liquid.
I purchased My Distilled Water From Here - From £3.99 Free Next Day Delivery

The Wax Filter I Purchased From Ebay - Look For 'Paint Filter' and purchase accordingly. I opted for a finer 125Micron Filter - £2.99 Free Delivery for 10.

And can I use a clear water instead of distilled water even though my bottle doesn't look dirty at all

I've been looking for this, I have one thats pretty old and has some burnt or dirty wax that's causing it not to flow properly, but the only thing is I don't know if the lid is a twist or one like a beer bottle that gets popped off

Usually twist caps will be deeper/taller to allow for the thread and a smooth rim. Beer bottle caps tend to be slimmer discs with teeth around the rim. Hopefuly you can tell which it is. Maybe tip the bottle upside and see if you view it from underneath?

omg just grab a pencil or something, then you could keep the wax back a few inches so it doesn't block the opening.

I used the original liquid out the lava lamp. If you require a little top up, you can add some distilled water.

Newer mathmos lamps now use ferrofluid. Hence why the flow sucks compared to the older models.

Why are you pouring the water into a pot? Isn't that water dirty hence, disposable?

Do you mean the 'water' out of the lava lamp? It's not water, its a special solution mix that is required to make the wax flow correctly. It isn't plain water so isn't disposable 👍

@@whiteroseuk OIC. Ty for explaining. I ask b/c there are other videos which instruct to exchange the water with new fresh distilled water. After doing so, one is to add epsom salt with a drip of clear dishwashing soap or glycerine. In order to re-create "the special solution" of which was originally contained.

Trust me those people are stupid, the solution they used is carbon tetrachloride. Whi h was banned within a year for its toxicity.

If you are not going to say anything...Don't just breath into the microphone.
