Then don't buy it. Simple as that. Buy your $7400 bike. And actually the new W2leezy keeps going up in price. You can get an old YZ for $4000 and buy this kit and easily put your old-school bike in KTM category. If you have $1000 this is the last thing you should spend it on unless you've done suspension and everything else. This is a great kid and I'm glad there are companies out there trying to fill a void. If you're young and you don't have the money you don't need this. It's not a necessity. It is an extravagance. It is something for the rest of us. I'm 40 years old and I have the money and I would love a starter and I would be happy to work out the kinks with them over the next few years. Because I'd rather have a YZ and work out The kinks rather than spend $12,000 on a new KTM. I have less than $6000 in my YZ with a Panthera electric start. Nobody should be trash in this. They should give honest reviews and say it's not up to snuff. And I meant that and I can except that. But don't trash this company for trying to bring something to the community that we have wanted for so long
@@fishtailfutureits hardly a void.. the yz is now, and has always been a motocross racing bike. NOBODY wants an electric start and shit to add weight and problems on their motocross bike. Morgan from Highland sold his bike, and it has come back with issues from the Panthera kit, he gives Panthera a thumbs down and has same feelings you have.
Panthera issued a TSB for the full on starter kit. The flywheel magnet is being modified so it doesn't overheat the stator causing premature failure reducing power output from 110wt to 80wt. Also, if you do have this kit already or are planning on buying it (if not, don't worry about my post) be sure to run ATF TYPE F at 250ml in the housing cover as it does a better job of lubricating the bearings and gears. Sorry you had a rough go with this kit, @Evan Pargett. I do think that it should have been noted in the instructions that a bend in your push lever is probably necessary to avoid catastrophe out on the trails and hours/days/weeks/months of frustration for such and expensive kit. I had a small issue w/ a break in the wiring going to my starter relay cap terminal, but other than that, the kit has been performing quite well *knock on wood* so far. We all appreciate your honest feedback and thank you for making this video! :)
I did bend it and it still broke the push lever 4 times, my stator completely died on me not just loss of power, the wires were corroded already, the stater motor died on me twice, button broke, the clutch thing ran my motor down several times almost stalling the bike. The kit and the company itself is a joke. I do not appreciate how he was handling my issues with the kit and I had a friend that has the same kit and he had a lot of the same issues. For how much it costs there should be next to no issues. I got 4 tsb emails before I even got my kit. The whole thing was a joke.
Lucky you don’t live in Australia, I’m not getting any help over here. I believe the sprag clutch is a problem when it heats up and drags the motor down, mine chewed out the starter gear and pinion gear. They didn’t want to help so I’m not happy either. Don’t think it had enough R&D to handle hard enduro.
Well starters and dirt bikes have had issues for a long time I bought a brand new 09 300 and had starter problems with it the whole time I owned it. Even after buying several staters I still kick started it until I sold it. My 14 had me gun shy so I always kicked it on first start up. So if you were to buy a new ktm xc 250 and a new yz250x installed this kit you would still be money ahead
For $1400 it should be a complete working bolt on kit with no issues. That’s a lot of money for a starter with all those issues. I wouldn’t run it either if I purchased it, I’d of yanked it off and sent it right back to them.
Rotor taper on the crank changes. To run the kit you would need a newer spec 03 on crank - if it then fails, you'd need the newer spec rotor to suit. Personally, I'd spend the money on a WRF400/426 gearbox.
Is it possible to buy a kit from you? even incomplete? I have extensive experience in repairing and manufacturing stators and starter motors. It would help me a lot in my project, for which I don't have enough money to buy a set for 1300usd. Great videos, thank you and sorry for my english.
I was JUST about ready to pull the trigger on a new YZ250X and the Panthera electric start kit, which I need due to a bad hip and knee, but after seeing the horseshit all these owners have had to deal with there's no way I'm going to spend an additional $1600 including a battery just to be their R&D department.....fuck Panthera......I'll just buy an FX or WR250 and live happily ever after....glad I did my research. Pound sand Frenchies....
It's not worth it in my opinion the kit I looked at was 1650$ n u still have to buy a battery. To me for 1600 it should come with EVERYTHING. Even a battery. But paying Almost 2k for electric start seems illogical.
