    Newell builds a top notch coach. This is a solid RV and for the cost of a lower end Tiffin or Newmar someone looking for good quality this looks pretty sweet.

    Andy, keep showing this kind of videos, we're getting a chance to see the used market, I think this 2007 Newell would be a very good place to start RVing in luxury for those of us without millions. Still a bit too many mirrors but not too Vegas flashy vibe. Thanks for sharing.

    One project for you Andrew. I was convinced that steerable tags were the way to go like on Newmar and Newell, Until someone pointed out that the pivot point (drive axle) remains the same. So how much tighter can it really turn?? Maybe you can try that in a future video with each example on a 45’ coach? Oh and One of My big pet pives is not having a couch long enough that I can lay down on to watch tv. 45’ long and only a love seat length couch! 6’6” by the way.

      Hate to burst your bubble n3qdz, but the Newell is a superior to the any of the bus conversions.

    • @ronfeinberg
      @ronfeinberg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tevans3373 I'll respectfully disagree. The Newell still starts off as a ladder frame, with the coach built on top of it. Whereas, the Prevost is a commercially built full cage structure, designed and authorized to carry 50+ passengers. The only thing similar is price, but nowhere the engineering quality of a Prevost.

    • @tevans3373
      @tevans3373 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ronfeinberg I certainly respect your right to disagree but my opinion is based on features not name brand recognition. Prevost are bus conversions that are designed for over-the-road transport of passengers and then converted for the opposite purpose. Newell designs, engineers and builds their own chassis specific to the floorplan+custom features and for the purpose of a motor home. The Newell has a tow capacity of 25,000 lbs vs. Prevost 20,000. Newell's tongue weight capacity is 5,000 greater than the Prevost. You rarely see a quad slide Prevost because the chassis is limited to 55,000 lb. The Newell's capacity is 63,600. Quad slides are standard, but you can get pretty much anything you want on a Newell...it doesn't fit in the standard plan/slideout configuration, no problem, Newell will custom engineer/build what you want...2 full baths? No problem. Larger holding and fresh water capacity, no problem. Want a 40' coach to fit in more locations, no problem (anything from 39.5-45')...want a garbage disposal...standard..want a golf cart garage..no problem, they've done it. Prefer a mid-entry coach, no problem Newell will do it for you. Need wheel chair access? Newell has the most elegant system I've ever seen in a motor coach. It is invisible when not in use, doesn't take up valuable floor space and doesn't take up any cargo space. The Prevost conversions use the factory wheel chair lift that takes up valuable interior space. Even Marathon's portable system takes up valuable basement storage and interior floor and wall space. But one of the main things that sets a Newell apart from a Prevost: active steering drive axle. The pivot point of the coach is the drive axle. Conventionally, the front axle will turn but the tag axle will drag laterally, called scuffing. To deal with it Prevost has a liftable tag axle that barely clears the ground when the bus is empty (I've seen it demonstrated on a an empty passenger Prevost). The weight of the conversion is so great that the tag axle of a Prevost conversion does not completely clear the ground and you still get scuffing. This is particularly at play at lower speeds used in backing and pulling forward to get into a campsite. The main purpose of Prevost's system is when making sharp turns at intersections, etc. However, with the tag axle raised the design puts all of the rear weight on the drive axle causing the potential for overloading the tires. This system is manual and has to be raised manually when needed and lowered manually when its use is over. All recent Newells including this example have active steering on the tag axle so it doesn't scuff the tires. Newell is currently the only coach that has active steering tag axle. This decreases the turning radius and you aren't fighting the tag axle when backing or pulling forward in tight spaces. There is no manual activation component involved. The tag axle continues to do its job of carrying its share of the load 100% of the time. Making it a better solution to tire scuffing. Newells currently have a 625 HP engine (but several engine options i.e. cummings, cat, etc.), the Prevost has only one option: the Volvo 600 HP engine. The Newell has greater torque as well. The Prevost has anti-lock brakes on the front and drive axels (four points on the ground); the Newell has anti-lock disc brakes on the front, drive and tag axles (6 points on the ground). Currently, Newells have collision avoidance and lane departure warning in addition to its adaptive cruise control. Newells also have easy-steer that compensates for cross winds at any speed making cross winds a non experience for the driver. The Newell has adaptive suspension that monitors the road conditions multiple times/second giving it superior handling and ride. 2/3 of the weight of a Newell is below the floor level giving it better center of gravity. The Newell has a one piece windshield giving an unobstructed view. The Newell also has a full digital dash display with no analog gauges. Obviously I could continue on a point-by-point comparison. And, by the way, Newell invented the diesel pusher motor home.

      @@ronfeinberg I am a fan of the Newells and did a lot of research. In no way do I mean to through shade on the Prevost conversions. Prevost make an excellent, excellent bus, second to none and the converters that are in business today are in business today because they make quality conversions. Now as for the ladder frame, my background is in architecture so I relate more to the space and usability. I'm no structural engineer so I really can't address the frame other than to say that every Newell ever built over the past 50 years was built on Newell's in house frames and after 1600 plus coaches I feel they should have it dialed in.
