Thank you guys so much! This decade is going to be the best yet :-)
The ability to tell a story can literally transform your life. It can land you a job in a crowded applicant pool, make you stand out on a first date, or be the difference between your business succeeding or failing.
Today I have a very special breakdown on storytelling. Not just because storytelling is so important to charisma and life, but because I am actually in this breakdown as the interviewer.
And the person I’m interviewing is without exaggeration one of the people I most admire on the planet. His name is Scott Harrison and as the founder of charity:water he has helped raise over 100 million dollars by telling stories for a good cause.
So in this video you’re going to learn the 3 high level principles that will help you to tell more engaging stories in any environment. And I should warn you, these stories are heavy and contain really sad, but important messages, which is necessary when you’re talking about the truth of why charity water exists. I’m also going to let the clips run longer so you can hear a bigger part of the story uninterrupted and comment later.
2:30 Take the listener to the same emotional journey you had when storytelling
4:18 Have a mystery to keep listener engaged like Charity Water story
5:47 Have a lesson at the end for personal development as the Scott Harrison interview

1.Take listener on same emotional journey.
    2. Constant element of mystery.
    3. Lessons at the end.
    Bonus:
    4. Make anomalies stand out.
    5. Set premise before starting journey.

This summary teaches almost nothing and it's pretty awkward that people looking to learn how to tell a story will willingly skip the guy telling a story... because it's too long. If you do that as the would-be storyteller, imagine how the listener will feel. There's not only things to learn in the delivery but lots of minor points not included in this summary.

for the people in a hurry 😜
    1. you want to take the listener on the same emotional journey that you experienced
    2. every story needs a near constant element of mystery to keep the listeners engaged
    3. You need to know the purpose behind your story...What is the audience supposed to take away from your story?

I love that you highlighted Scott Harrison. The story about the young woman and her broken water vessel was so impactful on its own. But he followed it up with action which must have been amazing to the people in that community. That fullness and action is really rare and why Scott and Charity Water are exceptional.

  • @Arizonaoutdoordaily

I also love the way Scott says “when a guy like you has a birthday” Scott’s not insecure.. he points out the greatness of who he’s speaking too without it making himself feel less! You can feel he genuinely feels that way! Makes the person he’s speaking to feel important which immediately makes you like Scott more!

I've noticed that telling a great story is much like writing a narrative paper.
Make a claim as to what the story is about and follow the story's main climaxes with cliffhangers in between whereas you will eventually reach a resolution/the meaning of the story.
The only difference is hand movements and voice variations.

Hey, thanks a lot for the tips; I really appreciate that you take the time to share your insights--especially in regards to effective social interactions.
It's taken me up to now to to notice just how much I, as well as others connected to me, have grown and benefit from your contributions. I hadn't even noticed at first, but it has been steadily gradual and it continues.
I've run into some resentment from a lot of people. This isn't something that would normally bother me, but it's tough when it's on the behalf of superiors at work. Subtly, they have been working to take me down. They mostly resent the fact that many of the woman are fond of me. Each of my superiors have little to no experience with woman. One of them (the head supervisor), at 29 years of age, has only been with one woman ever. The others share a similar experience.
Anyway, since they've arrived to replace the previous management, I've been getting write-up after write-up. It's a scary situation! After some years of homelessness, I have really turned my life around working this job: complete with loving and trusting family/friends. It's been wonderful to be able to be there for them; to contribute so much laughter, security, and adventure. I really don't care about the women at all! I just want to preserve and improve upon what I have/am now: for myself as well as others. So if you have any insights into and/or tips in how to navigate the workplace under such conditions (with resentments from above), I'd really appreciate a video on it specifically. I've looked through your channel to see if you had any: I may have missed it. If so, perhaps you could provide the link to me directly.
Thanks again. Great health and great fortune to you!

Charisma on Command: I can't afford $30 at this point in time, but this video really reached me. So what I can do, what I have done, is my best to share it with many other people in a meaningful way, and at least a few of them will check it out, and if not contribute, then share it along themselves. It's the least I can do, so I tried to be my best as I did it.

I have been known for my speaking ability, however though I was never known for my storytelling ability, but ever since I came this fascinating art of storytelling, I have begun to take notes and start using the technics of storytelling.
I must say, the results have been overwhelmingly surprising and continue to deliver amazing results.
All I had to do was just one thing, I just had to change one thing to change the whole perspective of storytelling.

I'm early so maybe you will see this comment. I, as well as probably many other subscribers love to read educational books about these topics since there is mostly much more to it than can be discussed in a 10 minute video. It would be amazing if you could share some books with us at the end of every video for those that want to learn more.
    Keep up the great work!

Our identity is a story, our nations are stories, our brands are stories, our history is a story, and so on. We instinctively edit our experiences in our minds, turn them into memories and extract meanings and emotions from them. Conventional storytelling mediums (TV, films, books, songs) are neat material packages of the same mental process we do in our heads all the time. Tell the best story, take the best meaning from it, and life becomes a whole lot rosier.

I am in love with your channel and watching your videos! I should be honest with you and saying that I don't watch every video, because sometimes its can be too much of a psychology, but when I do, I understand how simply helpful and genius is your idea of this channel and the effort for every single video, that you did and continue to do! Huge thank you!
I have a little idea and would like to share it with you: a good storytelling its always useful thing, but how about a short conversation, where you have minimum time, but you also need to tell a story or saying how are you doing. Unfortunately, almost 90 % of today conversations with people going just through "how are you doing? Good, and you? Me too". So if you could do like a few videos about short talking, i would definitely watch it !;) have a blessed day, Polli🌻

This is why I'm sticking with you Charlie. You choose to focus on people like Scott Harrison. You're teaching more than just competence in human interaction. Story is what binds us on a real human level, it underpins every single art form and as you say, it's also relevant in business and science. What makes the difference is which stories we choose to tell.

Some of the best stories I've ever heard were at a pub having a pint. You'd be surprised how many people go just to he heard, to be listened to and I believe that sometimes that is one important service you can give to others. Lend them your ears, share a beer and you'd be surprised what amazing stories you will hear.
