Hi! I still have my Peugeot 406. The engine still works normally, the electrical parts (switches, connectors, ...) are slowly breaking down. The biggest problem for me, is the information display, which already has a lot of dead pixels and when it warms up, it becomes very bright and you can't see anything. I'm looking on the Internet to see, if I can get a display like the one in your video (Siemens).
@@igorvrbancic The switches and connectors can all be worked on, the type c display there isnt as far as i am aware an easy fix for yet I just done a masters in software last year and would love to be able to do something with an ardunio or raspberry pi to interpret the signals and display it on a more modern screen but thats a lot of work and i have moved on from the 406s now
This guy is amazing. I've been wathching almost all his videos because I have a peugeot 406 1999 sedan too. I would like to know where did you learn to do this?
@@peugeotCitroen2CV You know what? You just saved me a relatively large sum of money for an AC repair. I had an issue where air wasn't coming despite increasing the blower fan speed (I can hear the blower speed going up, yet the air coming out was not proportionate to the speed of the blower). One of the technicians recommended to dismantle the dashboard to check the block, and quoted a relatively large sum for the labour costs. I didn't let him do that. Then I went to another technician. This car did not have a pollen filter, so this technician's assumption was that the blower fan must have been clogged with dirt, and he assumed it to be the reason for the lack of air coming from vents. He also recommended to take apart the dashboard to remove the blower and clean it. I had previously watched this video, and my car's air recirculation flap was anyway damaged, yet I thought that the flap was in the correct position. Since I had watched this video, I showed him the air recirculation flap and he suddenly realized that the flap was at a wrong position. The flap was on top of the blower, thus there was no way for air to get into the blower fan. He just fixed it and it was because of you only, I could find the problem easily. You essentially saved me some money and obviously time! Thanks again mate! If possible, could you please create a video showing how to repair/dismantle the auto-dimming rear view mirror of 406? Mine looked okay, and then I pressed the "Auto" button and now there's an air bubble inside the mirror, and the surface is blurry. Some kind of a thick oil was also coming out of the mirror. Just curious to know whether it's repairable to at least get it to work like a normal mirror without any auto-dimming features.
@@Techyisle Great to see that it helped sort out that issue with the recirculation flap. With regards the auto dimming mirror, unfortunatley if its leaking fluid (its similar to an LCD screen) you need to just replace the mirror. Thankfully it was not a rare option on the 406 and replacements should be easy to come by. I have not changed one personally never had it as an issue.
I found the flap motor adapter broken. It spins but more than needed so it broke the piece who connects with the system to open the flap. I don't know it it is a problem electrical problem that gives electricity for more time than needed or what. I'm looking for a replacement of the flap motor
@@peugeotCitroen2CV I'll get a new motor and also I will print 3d the piece I need in the motor I have now and then I'll store it. Thanks for your help!
Yeah I have found that out, mine has been steaming up inside badly for about a year now, I changed the pollen filter today (which was blocked completely) I thought that was the issue, then checked the flap and it's stuck shut!
That air freshener you put it so it would blow over the resistors Id have put on the pollination air filter the air freshener smells would have been drawn though the filter
If placed before the filter the smell of the air freshener may have diminished slightly. Funny you mentioned this, if forgot about this air freshener its probably still in this car. I dont drive it any more but its sitting stored in a shed.
I have another video on this channel where i dissect the heater box from a 406, ive never went with the intention of replacing a broken flap, didnt know the 406 did that, but i cant comment on if the dash needs to come out. On the 407 where heater flap adjustment is common its possible to cut open the heater box slip in the new flap and JB weld the cut apart section, a messy job but cheaper than removing the dash
Hi mate, thanks for your video. My blower on my 406, 2000 1.8 lx works now and then mostly after 10 - 15 mins of the car running...I can't figure out what the problem could be. If it wasn't working completely then it'd be a different matter...can you please advice me..Thanks.
I think its something to do with the wires in the key barrel, some people find that wiggling the wires around the connector for the key barrel helps sort out the issue. I havent had the issue but its appeared a few times on 406oc.

Hi, I have the same problem, and found out, that gear is broken. If tested with separate battery, motor run endless in one or other direction. How motor know, when to stop? There are no end position switches?
I think that the climate control is able to determine when the motor has reached the end of its movement when the extra current load is detected it stops the motor moving.
peugeotCitroen2CV I also think so. But my electric motor makes more than one lap before stopping. This is probably the reason, that the gear broke. Apparently current detection in my climate in not working properly. By the way, your video about 406 MAF sensor help me a lot. I clean it with pure alcohol and cotton swabs.
Igor Vrbancic If the gear is broken the motor will continue to turn without any resistance to its turning when it reaches the end of its movement (as it should when working normally) the climate control can't detect the extra current and won't know what to do.
When the flap is in closed or opened position how does the motor knows this and stops? Is there any kind of sensor in the flap ? Because i took down my motor and it moves only in one director as i disconnect and connect it's plug. And it moves a lot, not just a little and if i put it back it will break... So how does the motor knows when to stop ??
Mad Eklavya A good question, im not 100% sure but given there are no limit switches inside this mechanism i think that it is based on resistance, when the flap is closed there will be extra strain put on the motor which will result in increased resistance which the climate control unit presumably then will stop the motor
Yeah i thought it so. And that's why i need new motor. Because mine is broken. Not the theeth inside the motor, but the main thing which moves fap. I tried to glue it, but as long as it need to make some resistance, this glue thing will not hold it and it will break again. :(
Mad Eklavya Did you remember what was the solution finally? I'm in a similar situation, previous motor was broken at axis. When I removed it I performed some tests. When I pushed the button (inner circle - outer circle) on the dashboard it turned but it turned a lot until it stopped. Like 1.5 round or so. When i pushed the button again it did the same but in different direction. I also don't understand how it's get the signal that i should stop since there is only two wires... resistance-based (too high power consumption) stop mechanism make sense, I can't see other option. Picked up a new motor from a local dealer, but I'm a bit afraid about installing it if the climate control unit is broken and that is the main reason behind this broken axis.
hi , thanks for video. got 99 s redg td there is a intermitant taping noise which goes when I turn on the recirculating air button on , but cabin hot! someone said its the air flap ! any idears ? thanks .
1superocky1 If its a TD is it a pre facelift D8 then? does it have climate control or the rotarty knobs to control the ventilation? The recirculation flap is still electronic on the old cars as far as i recall but even if its jammed it shouldnt leave the car blowing hot air, perhaps the cable or one of the linkages going to the temperature control has broke which is leaving the air hot. I dont have a D8 so 406oc would be the best place to ask about the heating system on them as it is slightly different
peugeotCitroen2CV hi, thanks for getting back .it does have the rotary knobs . there is fresh air coming in the cabin but there is a clicking sound all the time unless you press the recirculating air button , then the cabin heats up ! regards .
1superocky1 If i recall correctly the gears on the older D8s were more prone to breaking causing the noise, its been covered over on 406oc a number of times worth a look there, but the actual process of getting to the affected part is very similar to this D9
Excellent video! I've got a very similar problem on a Citroen Synergie with electronic climate control like your 406. It has 2 separate air intakes on the bulkhead, and both can be seen firmly shut from the outside. It steams up like crazy now every time it rains. I hate electronics on cars, give me a simple cable operated system.
Also, could you please tell me more about your 'pp2000' Diagnostics setup? Does it read the error codes for the AC controller through the OBD connector? Any help or information would be great thanks.
NickExton309 Hello nick, im not familiar with the setup on the synergie, if its got two air intakes are they controlled with a similar gearbox type unit as the 406, the teeth could be stripped inside them. As for the pp2000 its a clone of what the dealers use, bought on ebay, it can do everything a dealer computer can on older pugs/citroens so if your car has an ecu for the ventilation system then it will read the codes, the xsara i bought the tool was able to tell me the heater blower had a fault (although i could hear it being stuck on full blast). On a simpler car like a 106 it can only really talk to the engine as there are no other electronic systems on it.
