I was beating Final Fnatasy on the NES when I was that young, too. So why do kids need a crap game to act as "their first" whatever. Kids are smart. They don't need to be talked down to.
My first game was Super Smash Bros. Melee. The first game I beat was Star Fox Adventures. SFA isn't the best game, but I still love playing it to this game.

The thing is: This is a _kids' game._ It was designed for _kids._ Kids in the age range this game targets don't normally care about stage design or stats or character uniqueness. They just care about the fact that they're playing a fun game. And the lesson that this game teaches kids? The one singular lesson? This game is meant to be simplistic. it's meant to have very few things to teach kids about kart racing games other than the basics. You can always learn the more complicated stuff that a kid in this game's age range won't always understand somewhere else.
Well, kids are much more easily amused then adults, although I would despise this game now that I'm older I played it when I was a kid and it wasn't that bad then.

The thing is: This is a _kids' game._ It was designed for _kids._ Kids in the age range this game targets don't normally care about stage design or stats or character uniqueness. They just care about the fact that they're playing a fun game. And the lesson that this game teaches kids? The one singular lesson? This game is meant to be simplistic. it's meant to have very few things to teach kids about kart racing games other than the basics. You can always learn the more complicated stuff that a kid in this game's age range won't always understand somewhere else.
