Dear Cindy. Thank you for your kind comments. I like to make my videos as if the viewer is sitting there next to me and I am describing to them one on one how to do things. I certainly enjoy making them and get a thrill when people get in touch.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful. I have a doll, which I got after my late mother. Doll probably 60 or more, years old. The crier broke down. some years ago. Doll always kept very carefully, I could repair the crier, as you describe, airtight place for the crier. Used the method below, tape and a drop of baby oil.
This is a fantastic video, thank you so much! I’ve never restored a crier yet, I’ll come back and watch it again when I get the chance to restore one. ❤
I have just found your channel and am so excited to see how to repair the doll mama crier. I have tried various methods prior and have had no luck. I will try this and see how I go. Thank you for your channel. I love the Pedigree dolls.
Dear Mardi, thank you for getting in touch. I am so pleased that my video has been so useful for you. Please let me know how it all goes and contact me if you want any additional advice as I would be pleased to help out.
Hi helpful video have you got any videos of how to fit the voice box back in please I can’t seem to get the elastic for the joints out the way to seat it in probably thank you
I loved your video and I would like to know if the antique doll crier ( 1940) is the same process. It is made for cardboard and the top is made a tin with holes. I live in Brazil and thank you for your help.
Hello! Thank you for the video! Do you know what the base for the crier is made of? I opened a crier on a doll and the base is almost completely ruined, so I wonder if I can replace it? Thank you in advance!
Hi. You can try cleaning by blowing through or using a fine brush. Try blowing through from both sides as well. It doesn't take much grit to prevent it from working. Also check that the reed isn't bent and misaligned. An alternative is to use the reed and surrounding piece from another damaged crier. I could send you one but postage costs might make it more worthwhile looking for one closer to home. Another point is the opening to the reed doesn't have to be misaligned or bent by much for it to prevent the sound.
Hi there. Thank you for your video! I need to try this again, but I have a different type of cryer mechanism. It's a key wind clock work cryer. I can't find anyone else out there that has seen anything like it. 1940's doll :) I like your ideas though, so I'll give it another go :)
Hi. Ive been thinking about your wind up clock work crier. Can you send me a photo of it? you can send it to kittykruup@hotmail.com I remember a British doll that had a wind up crier, and also an Italian doll as well.
Do you mean the external cap that you remove to access the crier? If so, if you look closely you will see that on each side is a little slot. You need to align it with pieces that help lock the cap in place. Gradually turn the cap a little at a time until the slots line up with the pieces that will then allow you to lift the cap out. It's not always easy and may take patience so as not to damage things. Let me know how you go or if you need further explanation.

For that style i wrap electric tape around the main part and if needed clear tape as well, a little bit of baby oil and boom it works

The base was often made of plastic or bakelite. Some were all cardboard as well.

What is the crier mechanism made out of? Is it lead?
Thank you - so helpful. From South Coast, UK :)

Hi Kitty I’m having trouble removing the cryer box. It rotates about 90degrees but is very stiff. Should it just pull out?

How do you remove the crier/ mama box
Where do you use the baby oil? Inside of bag? On the inside or outside of the bag in the drum
??
There’s no baby oil
