DIY French Drain & Downspout | River Rock | Patio & Yard Drainage Solution

- This is a relatively easy DIY french drain, downspout & landscaping project for any homeowner looking for multiple solutions. This project acts as a great drainage solution for the water from the concrete patio, downspout and the yard all in one system.
Overall this project took around 3 days to complete and as far as DIY projects do this one is pretty manageable. Running 2 pipes in one trench to some may be overkill but I believe this was the correct way to complete this project.

Everyone needs a neighbor like you. Nicely done
If sod-tossing was a sport… you’d be one of the greats! Another awesome video!
Hahaha thats awesome!
I haven't seen some Cincinnati Sod Slappin' like that since the mid 1950s, wow!
lol
Great timing was just wrapping up my French drain. I like the idea of adding the shielded drain pipe to high traffic areas. I am going to use that in the area D drive my truck over.
You did it the correct way. Looks good.
Once you capture water, don't let it go. French drains are to capture water, not transport it.
Man, I need to get you to install one of these at my property. Top notch quality work Ryan!
Thanks!
For people doing it down a drive way cover the pipe in sand then gravel on top so that the gravel doesn’t grind away at the pipe and cause leaks if a vehicle drives over it as the gravel can pierce pipes. We’ve just replaced water pipes that burst because someone buried them in large gravel and the cars weight caused the gravel to cut through over ten years.
Wow Ryan, very cool!
awesome job ...👏
Thanks! Always love your videos because I learn so much! Also, I usually get to see your neat collection of tools!😀
Awesome, thanks. Yeah you can never have too many tools...
Great vid 2cd
Thanks!
Not related to this video but any tips on how to properly rotortill lawns when weeds are an issue
Could you pls tell me what is that beautiful tree behind you, w the white blossoms? Is that a digwood? Do you know which cultivar of dogwood that is? please, I appreciate any assistance you or your neighbor can provide? Thanks!
Thanks. Shall contact Rito Rooter... The two pipes were not installed deep enough to prevent lawn mower from hitting the pipe.
you should have left the fabric on top of the pipes with a layer of rock. the fabric would reduce clogs within the rocks. and its easier to wash off the top rock without the silt going to the bottom. but it all depends on how bad the fine dirt accumulates. Your reason still is acceptable
This is an interesting take on a French drain. To meet code in my area, you need to use day old baguettes. Just cut off the end caps and glue sections together with jam. To get the perforations you'll need to burn holes with a half lit cigarette. Make sure to wear a beret and maybe some of that mime makeup to be safe. A stripey safety shirt will also increase your fashion and save you from those itchy pieces of the crust that sometimes break off.
lol
Great video. Surprised how shallow the pipes are.I learned from other videos that the trench should be deeper. What region of the country was the installation done? Why doesn't depth matter here?
We are in northern Ohio and you are correct. This was not the ideal depth. I didnt want to redo the entire drain to the street so I just used what I had. The pipe I connected to was 16" deep I would have liked it to be closer to 24" or deeper.
would you like to get some nice outdoor lights?
Does the water end up discharging to daylight ? and if not possible to get it to daylight how do you discharge it at the end of the run?
The drain system is connect to a city storm sewer line at the street.
Where’d you get the rock? Buy it by the bag?
Wish you were my neighbor
Why didn’t you just use the correct black pipe off cut in the background of your video to join the pipes to the y joiner instead of tape on the white solid pipe, that was a serious fail after all that hard work. The tape won’t last 20 years. The end of the French drain should go into a big hole full of big rocks going up to small rocks then gravel and just dissipate into the ground. We use to make a concrete curbing mould to make them look like city drains in towns when I did road maintenance.
Dont run a downspout into a French Drain if you have alot of trees
