I absolutely love watching your channel! Love watching the mystery of weather or not the cameras will work. I am thinking of buying one of your cameras for the sole purpose of unboxing it and giving your channel a shout out.
@@pricklypearcamera thanks so much. I’m really enjoying your camera videos. As somebody who loves older cameras I find what you do awesome. If it is ok with you I’m going to give you a shout out in a live stream.
Another fun video. Always fun to see these old cameras, and a nice guide to keep in mind when in thrift shops! lol That Nikon s7000 was a gem, looked like a nice camera, glad it was in working order for you.
I had a very old nightvision scope, that got very sticky, I used hand sanitizer on it, worked like a charm, just put it on a old washcloth rubbed it off. Still looks good, 4 years later. Figured at that point, I had nothing left to lose. It was about 15 years old by then anyway. And still using it😂
Old PowerShot cameras (and Ixus) get improved by the CHDK firmware a whole bunch. Depending on DIGIC version, you can turn the movie mode into a neat low-res pixellated thing in a way that sometimes works. Later DIGICs and it smooths itself out in the camera. Common for basically all of them with CHDK is opening up raw photography, which often saves a photo!
I have the Sony DSC W55. The night time setting is definitely an improvement over the standard setting at night. Setting it to black and white for night time photos is surprisingly very good.
@@pricklypearcamera Never heard about the show, so I had to Google it. :) But yes "Red rigth habd" is from the album.."Let love in" I believe?? I'll have to Google that too. :D

@@pricklypearcamera Hozier really is something special. I have recently found a new artist I really enjoy. His music kinda reminds of like a mixture of Hozier and Orville Peck. John Lensing is his name
Olympus and Fuji tried to push the XD proprietary form factor on the marketwithout success . I was forced to buy a 1GB one for my old camera, it was twice as expensive as a regular SD card and had no advantages over SD. It was always a pain to use as you always had to use the usb cable to download pictures as adapters were rare. Did I mention it was slow? It was SLOW.
Yes, yes, and yes! I made a video on XD about a year ago and before that I didn't quite understand the speeds or capacity issues with that type of card, but frankly I'm in your boat. Very slow to format and transfer.
Total bummer with that SD550 - I have one in beige with the original box that a friend gave to me. It's an excellent point & shoot with great canon colors (put it in "vivid" and shoot away), very quick to shoot with, good quality lens, and has a surprisingly good VGA movie mode with exceptional (if grainy) low light sensitivity for movie mode (If I could link a couple video samples in google photos to share, I would)
Bummer to hear that! Do you have any SA only or African auction sites? I don't actually buy too many cameras on eBay, mainly sell there. We have so many USPS/UPS/Fedex hubs here in the US which makes shipping between the 50 states pretty seamless, so I'm indeed quite lucky!
not really we only have a decent market through facebook marketplace but they're overpriced or shady and then we have a few camera retailers but even then they dont stock that many second hand digital cameras@@pricklypearcamera
Flash fires!! When you moved from camera sales to selling preowned cameras did you buy a bulk set of lithium batteries/sd cards/usbs etc? Or is it generally more worth it for you to just sell the cameras as is? Favorite band is Alice in Chains, thanks for sharing!
Fire it up! I started doing this part time around 10 years ago now, and in the first year or two spent a couple thousand $ on batteries and chargers so that I could build up a charging network (I have found the universal charges to be wholly lacking in performance). I now spend about $6-8,000 annually just on batteries and chargers. Of course it's a business expense, but it's definitely one of the biggest costs of the business apart from shipping fees and packing materials. Nice choice in Alice in Chains, like them, and used to play best of Metallica on repeat in my first gen iPod!
HI I see a link to the microfiber cloths, but what solution do you use for the sticky rubber? I've used isopropyl alcohol, but it removes the rubber completely. I've seen some people say to use Armor All or WD40 as well. Thanks for the info.
You might enjoy War on Drugs if you like indie music. I have also been a fan of Future Islands for a while and more recently anything that is labeled as "Shoegaze". Alvvays is making a move up the billboards.
Great video again. Love to see all the brave little used and abused camera's getting a change of another go.
Thanks! Quite right, these poor little cameras may not have seen much use recently, but hopefully they get another chance at life!

Nice! I think there are a few things that can kind of neutralize it, I've heard hand sanitizer (alcohol) working well like you said.
