Thanks...I just spent $30 USD on the combo pack! You're a great salesperson for rpg products.
    Great video as well.

Oh hah well I hope you know I don’t just pitch things. I only put things on the channel I really find of use. These are really great cards, especially in conjunction with a good set of random tables. I hope you enjoy them!

Well... I was JUST wondering about an easy way to simulate a solo hexcrawl-style wilderness exploration game... and then this. Perfect timing.

With 2 cards and a dice you told us a story. You have so much imagination, thank you for your videos.

I'm putting this in use. I just entered a new area in a relaxed solo DnD5e scenario starring some little people and hidden among them is a monster manual celestial (Couatl), so the environment referring to "a flying creature" & "a winged reptilian creature" resonated well with the story. I found this interesting & the use of these tools chill to listen to while I was doing chores, even if the result hadn't directly connected with the story.

Is there a more robust system to use these cards? Something 4AD for Hexcrawl?

I bought these cards a while ago. I like the kingdom cards much better than the high seas cards. I expect we will see more decks in the future. They can be combined with the Gamemaster’s Apprentice Cards to give you a really good solo starter toolkit. I did not see you rolling the dice when you came to the edge of the cards, as suggested in the ‘rules’ to select the next card. This was a good first attempt at an adventure starter. It might be fun to combine these cards with Talisman event/encounter cards and other Talisman cards/components.

I love your ideas about using these with other products/resources. No, as I believe I stated at the beginning of the video I was not going to use the die rolling mechanic.

This is the best wilderness crawl solution I’ve found for solo rpg. Great product.
I recommend to use this along with the solo adventurers toolkit part 1 & 2 that uses a 6d12 system (which also uses wilderness dressing). This provides rolls for possible monsters, clues, features, NPCs, treasure, or Events). This keeps things exciting.
Also recommend to use the time features of these cards because it will slow you down if you are in the mountains vs roads.

Some observations. Like many others, I love the cards. The art style and all-purpose nature of them is really neat. Now, that brings me to the random generation. The nature of this freestyle is something that attracts me while it also deters me at the same time. As a storyteller, I've always felt the lure of any kind of tool that allows me to practice my storytelling. Rory's Story Dice, RPG-prompt books, item or spell cards or even Tarot cards and Rune stones. And those all work fine as I have a very associative brain. But then when it gets to playing games, I feel like 'sandboxing it' doesn't provide me with enough structure. I need borders to play within or a scenario where all the elements within makes sense. I already feel less satisfied when I play a board game that uses randomized monsters and locations and items (and tries to spin that as a feature of the game) when all I want is a coherent, scripted story. So, when I try to use the same tools I do for writing but instead, for playing, I feel that because there is so much freedom, there is also no sense of drama or rhythm in the game experience. Every just happens without rhyme or reason.
I know what you're going to say to this: "It's what you bring to the table that shapes the experience." And you're right. I think with a little more discipline I can force myself to give my own story more shape and sense, and confine the randomness to a framework that only allows for characters, locations, and events that fit a certain 'scenario profile'. But then I'm working so hard being my own DM, I feel like it takes time and energy away from living through the character I'm playing. And maybe that's the problem. The dual-focused effort of world-building and adventuring within that world is too much of a feedback loop of instant creation and self-realization that lacks the challenging gameplay that comes from the friction between one person designing an adventure and another having to 'solve' it. I guess I can't align my needs as a creator and as a consumer in the way you do.
Still, thanks for the instant adventure. It was fun watching!

Thanks for the comment and your thoughts and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It is possible that solo RPG is just not for you. If it feels like work, in the bad sense, that’s probably not a great sign… I appreciate your watching.

@NoBoringChars I have (like the Dark Eye solo adventures, CYOA books (like those from Van Ryder Games) or even the Fabled Lands series) but they are rare creatures among the ones you need a DM for. Mind you, I still like going through RPG modules and enacting a dual-handed character adventure. Playing the Pathfinder card game, I've done so, after reading the corresponding (or best matching) adventure modules. So, it's doable...

Do you know where you got that purple percentile die? Because I have it too and I don’t know where it came from. Great stuff, I love making up adventures the way you demonstrate on your channel-using whatever you have at hand, and letting everything be a prompt for your own imagination! There’s something innate in us that’s served by this sort of creativity.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting. I got that die at a dice bin at a comics store in Manhattan. I’m sure it’s just a common one...

Geek Gamers Ah, thanks. Now that you mention it, that’s probably how I got it too, since I likely had no percentile die and wanted one!
