    Just make sure you like what you're doing and you're not doing it for the "money". I put money in quotes because for most people in investment banking, it's not really worth it since a couple things are going on... for one, you work 90 hours. That's over TWO full time jobs... so you'd better be getting paid more. Also, you most likely work in a high-cost-of-living area. So that's also something to consider. Lastly you most likely went to an expensive target school where you've gotta pay back a crap ton of loans... are you really happy in the end? I know people working at target in the suburbs that are leading less stressful and happier lives with family and simple living, clean quiet neighborhoods, greenery, etc. in comparison to the high stress fast paced life of an investment banker in the city.

    • @australianpatriot
      @australianpatriot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Loans really aren't too much of a hassle, also if u purchase instead of rent ur sitting on substantial capital incase u decide to move to a different career path after earning a shit tonne of money

      Most people in IB only do this for 2-3 years while searching for exit ops to hedge funds, private equity or venture capital. An analyst earns low 6 figures in IB, in those wanted fields you can earn high 6 figures after entering while working less hours and with a more flexible schedule. Associates, VPs and MDs in both IB and the other fields work less hours and VPs and MDs tend to hit 7 figures. Not bad at all if you ask me. In hedge funds you can even hit 7 as an analyst depending on your performance.

And that's not the end even when she's at home at 11! She get call from clients abt deals n oll coz her client are from us. In investment banks you get clients globally. She literally work 90-100hrs a week! But yea if you want money investment banking is for you and if you want social life investment banking isn't a great option for you! My sister is making 96000£ as a base salary and last year she got bonus of 73k£! So In total she made 169k£ in 1 year! That's a lot of money!

Investment banking is for over-achievers; in order to get into the industry and end up at a regarded firm, you will have to devote the vast part of your life to studying. No one goes into investment banking with the expectation to work 40 hours a week. And if someone goes there, he or she does not do so only to leave after an internship that followed years of preparation and doing X and Y in order to boost his or her resume.

    So much inefficiency! Investment bankers are not medical doctors or scientists. You only need to work 45 hours a week max (even that is too much). Companies could hire 2-3 people instead of a single person who will then produce sub-par work due to the excessive hours, leading to waste. Unlike healthcare or scientific research, IB's have the funds and capacity to do this.

    • @Chris-ci8vs
      @Chris-ci8vs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @BambiTheOG he mentioned multiple aspects to the one project that multiple people were already working on. A few more would not hurt that and would indeed increase efficiency.

    • @Chris-ci8vs
      @Chris-ci8vs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @BambiTheOG To address your first point, they have a plethora of excellent candidates to choose from as there is currently an oversupply. Having 3 people instead of 1 who work more efficient hours does not increase labour costs when they are paid pro rata the same. In fact many investment banks are slowly learning this.
      Secondly, this again can be handled by a specialist team member who can work those hours and has access to the resources of the rest of the team. I know several investment firms that take this approach.
      Thirdly, same as above.
      Fourthly, this is why one of the hires is a client service specialist like other investment firms have.
      So the initial point still holds. This is why there is in fact a trend to hire more staff on flexible hours; the results are showing increases in productivity. Traditional IB is very stodgy and slow to learn, but over time market forces do apply to them which is why these trends are emerging. That said, there are still far too many people that think 'oh it was always done this way' rather than think to innovate. I do fully see where you're coming from, but I also think that a lot of places are very myopic and have efficiency issues.

    • @Chris-ci8vs
      @Chris-ci8vs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @BambiTheOG I know the consulting firm I work with would love to do that. The big banks I have seen adopt a flexible working approach include Lloyds, Bank of America, Commonwealth Bank, HSBC, and Westpac. I have heard JP Morgan employees in the UK claim this but I am skeptical based on who those employees are.

The reason why I ask is because I’m working on a start up, Observe; allowing students an opportunity to test drive their future by observing professionals in their field etc. Observe will also allow professionals to share their insight in their respective field and build their personal brand etc
    If you’re not able to do beta testing, no worries, I totally understand. Maybe later. If you are, I would just add you to the list.

      @@away5534 to be fair its better than any jobs Ive ever had and it opened up opportunities that I would have never had. For example Ive got accepted to a dutch masters program with scholarship and I switched to another boutique IB in a different country in Europe. As for the work life balance its probably a lot better here than in London/New York/Frankfurt/Paris but we also get compensated a lot less. Honestly I think if you can get in, its a good opportunity compared to random corporate job out there as you learn a lot, get to listen in on talks with ceos etc. On the other hand I cant compare it with other good options such as working at a startup or a consulting firm as Ive never worked at one.
      Currently I am thinking about going down the data science or management consulting route after my masters just try to switch to buy side.

    So why is Investment Banking so special when it comes to payment/ stress/ work hours etc. etc. I mean you basically have a normal job doing different things with a goal in mind. Why not hire more people and make it less neurotic?
    I work in the pharma industry and we have normal 40-50 h weeks and everything is more "human" but I dont think or work is easier or less important

    • @0wls2k

      Hiring more people means they pay out more and overall profit is less. Instead they employ fewer people who are committed and are happy enough to work longer hours.
