I definitely agree on the re-reading test. I do have a favorite book. I just fell in love with it at an impressionable time of life and nothing has ever replaced it.
A big YES to a re-read vlog! Maybe narrowing it down to 5 first? Then 3? Lol My favorite movie is Ever After (Drew Barrymore), love it. Favorite novel is Lonesome Dove and I never thought I'd like westerns.
Picking these is like picking your favorite child! ;) So many great choices!!! I've not read Ethan Fromme before and you can convinced me! Rear Window is such a favorite of mine. Everything is stunning about it. A young Raymond Burr! Jimmy Stewart! Grace Kelly! Oh my!
I re-watched some of Rear Window last night, just to be back in that Greenwich Village apartments overlooking a courtyard setting again. 😁 As for Ethan Frome, do you like sad books?? If not, you may want to skip it. Otherwise, yes, please read it!! 😁
Good luck! I can't narrow my favorite book down to one. There are just so many wonderful books, and I don't waste my time on ones that aren't. Love your channel! Yes, please vlog your re-reads. 🙂
Yes on Rear Window!! It's definitely in my top 10. I have no idea what my favorite movie is since my tastes are constantly changing. My favorite read since 2019 has been David Copperfield. I've loved many, but nothing has topped it. BTW, I finished The Age of Innocence last night and LOVED it. 5 stars. I plan to begin House of Mirth tonight.
Great video Susan! I can’t pick a favorite book, there are so many that I love and that have moved me. Same with movies but the one movie I have watched the most times and never get tired of is The Bird Cage. It makes me laugh every time from start to finish 😂😂😂
I agree that a favorite book has to be one you can reread with great pleasure. My favorite book is Jane Eyre, and my favorite movie is probably The Sound of Music.
I love The Sound of Music too! As for Jane Eyre, it is excellent! I re-read it a few years ago during Victober and was surprised that I didn't remember it was such a long book. But that said, I couldn't imagine leaving any part of it out. Wonderful choices! Thank you for sharing!!
Would love to watch your journey of re reading your favorites! Oh and I wanted to include that Rear Window is my favorite film as well! I actually just re watched it on prime the other night. There's something very cozy about it. Besides the story , there is so much to love . The set absolutely rocks and the use of the neighbor playing the piano in the background, Grace Kelly's amazing wardrobe. I just love everything about Rear Window.
Wow, this is a big endeavor. Choosing just one favorite. I’m not sure I could do it now. I’ve always said Wuthering Heights is my favorite when asked in the past. But I’m not sure it is anymore. I think I might do this your way and see what I come up with.
Wuthering Heights is a wild ride!! 😂😂 I think it’s “interesting“ to declare a favorite but not necessary. Nonetheless, I’m going to try. If you come up with yours, let me know!!
My (current) favorite movie is "The Judge", although it depends on who is asking. It's the best mix of mystery, family, and law for me. I was pushed to read Beartown by you and one of my best friends. I am looking forward to your final pick(s), as I will probably pick it up.
Hi Susan. I’m so glad to have found your channel. I really enjoyed this video. We have very similar tastes in books, I think. In fact, just about 15 minutes ago, I was writing to someone else about my love of David Copperfield! And then I found this video! 😊 Nice to “meet” you!
I watched 2 of your videos this morning and thought: I've got to subscribe to Pat! :) Thank you for finding me too! And yes, I could tell just from those two vids of yours that we have some reading in common, which I always love to see here on the TH-cam!
Pride and Prejudice (with Keira Knightley) by far my favorite movie. As far as books, I think I can agree to favoriteS. I don't think I could narrow it down!!! I love watching your journey to try though!
Per your suggestion, I got The Secret History, Circe and Sea of Tranquility from the library. I'm enjoying The Secret History. It's not an easy read. I mean it's easy to get into but I do have to think while I'm reading it and have been using lots of stickers to keep track of things that seem like significant details. Circe and Sea of Tranquility don't seem like my kind of books but I like to expand my reading.
I’m so happy you chose those 3!!!! But…that said…as much as I love them, I can appreciate they’re not for everyone. Sea of Tranquility starts off slow. While I was enjoying the writing I didnt have the urge to get back to it. Until…UNTIL, I started seeing what was really going on, and then I raced through it!!
@@RoadReads Thanks - good to know. I'd like to get some of the others you mentioned too but I'm 68 years old and a slow reader and I'm quite overloaded with books right now - trying to finish them before I die. Seriously
@betsymaher9489 The 3 you chose are perfect choices!! And may you have many, many reading years ahead!! My husband is 65 and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he outlives me, 14 years his junior.
@@RoadReads I'm really enjoying The Secret History even though I'm not that far into it yet. I find Bunny to be a very annoying person. I don't want to give anything away to other readers though. I think the book is very well written. It just glides along.
If you enjoy Grace Kelly movies To Catch a Thief is great! but I do love Cary Grant so maybe thats why I love it 😊😂 I would love to see a re read vlog!
Re-read vlogs forthcoming! 😁⭐️ And don’t get me started on Cary Grant. He’s a definite favorite of mine. Maybe not the top actor if we’re going to be technical, but so dreamy. 😍 To Catch a Thief is visually stunning! Not a favorite but I could definitely watch it again!
I can't choose a favorite either so i really admire you for trying. I see more top 10 videos of top favorite books.... so i agree you'll have to reread to give equal weight. I think tho if you keep putting off a reread, it may not need to be in the top 10 (mood excluded) lol
Favorite movie is Roman Holiday. Like you said- I could watch it on repeat and never get sick of it! Although The Neon Demon gives it a run for its money sometimes. The two films are so different it's hard to compare. Ethan Frome is so good! Now I'm wondering if I should reread it before diving into The Age of Innocence (will be the first time reading it). I've recently been on a Wharton kick and just finished Old New York!
I swear we are book twins...we have so many favorites in common, except for 2 outliers- I did not love Sea of Tranquility and I still think about War and Peace, almost daily. Favorite books can change for us as we change as people, but I think we have emotional connections to certain books throughout our lifetime. For example, Gone With the Wind made me a reader when I was very young. It will always have a place in my heart, but probably wouldn't be a top book for me today. Just going by that twinge in my heart when I think about books, I always think of Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and Beach Music by Pat Conroy. A favorite movie would be much harder for me to choose. I guess I should watch Rear Window!
I love to be book twins!! And it's only reasonable that we don't agree on *everything*. :) Song of Achilles is a great choice! I've not read Beach Music but was thinking about Pat Conroy just a few days ago. As for Rear Window...yes, please watch! :)
I would love to see a vlog of your re-reading !!! My favorite movie is probably Twister (an almost tie is Jurassic Park) As for books... oh boy, I don't know. If I have to think this hard about it, clearly I haven't picked one favorite book yet.
Twister is great!! (I’m sure you already know another one is coming this summer. But it has tough competition!) Yes, choosing one favorite book sounds easier than it is. So many factors! Happy weekend, Karen!!
@@RoadReads I've already told my son he has to come see it with me, the new Twisters .... I'm excited to see how they do this one. Happy Weekend to you !
I love The Lord of the Rings films. We have the extended version and binge watch it at Christmas. I also love The Wizard of Oz, Dirty Dancing, Grease and The Breakfast Club. As you can see, I can't really pick a favourite! Good luck with choosing your favourite book.
I love that you shared your favorite movies! Thank you!! Choosing a favorite is indeed difficult, and for me at least, a moving target as life goes on. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!
I read Peace Like a River and love it too. I also read The Sadness of Lemon Cake. I didn't know anyone else had read that one. I liked that one too but I felt like I didn't quite understand some things about it, especially at the end. I'm so glad you are talking about movies. I have always been movie crazy, long before I really started getting into books. I also have an official favorite movie that, like my favorite book, not everyone is as crazy about as I am but my absolute favorite movie is "Love With the Proper Stranger", starring Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen. I've only seen it about a million times and now own it on my DVR. Last year I came across "Light in the Piazza" and that's right at the top of my list too. I love "Rear Window" too and think it's kind of a perfect movie.
I’ve seen both of your favorite movies! Though for the life of me, I can’t remember how Piazza ends. 🤔 I made my husband watch Love with a Proper Stranger with me a few years ago because he’s a Steve McQueen/Bullitt fan. But he fell asleep. 😂 😂
Fave movie is Bridget Jones’ Diary. I can watch it over and over, and I still laugh at all the same parts. Fave book is much harder. I can re-read Jane Austen more than any other author, but I do love so many others.
Favorite movie is “The Godfather 2.” I can’t say my favorite book but I can offer that the book that started my love of reading as a child is “ Anne of Green Gables.”
That’s a great way of looking at a favorite! I wish I had read it as a kid, instead of as a late 40-something for the first time. The Godfather 2 is sooooooo good!!!
Not sure if you watch Club Random with Bill Maher? He just had a great conversation with Sandra Bernhard. I had to laugh because she said if any of the Godfather movies are on, she has to watch them. Same for me. 🤣 On another note have you been listening to Julia Louis Dreyfus’ “Wiser Than Me” podcast? She recently interviewed Gloria Steinem. I had no idea she is 90.
Gloria Steinem is forever young! (I have Dreyfus' podcast in my library but have not been listening to it. Must do that! I'd love to hear her perspective as a 90-year-old.) I don't have traditional TV any longer, but there was definitely a time in my life when if any of the Godfather movies were on, I was in. So I completely understand where you're coming from!
