That girl REAALLLY thought she was doing some investigative journalism while getting told BLATANT lies from the company who’s obviously trying to rewrite the narrative 🤦🏼♀️
But if you think about it these people are getting played because if they really wanted someone to report on the conditions of their company they would’ve invited actual journalist instead they invited influencers who would get canceled over the situation and give them more promo while doing it. And this isn’t my own opinion this is coming from the woman who made the original Shein documentary she said that Shein did this on purpose they could’ve easily invited actual journalists but then again that probably would’ve ended in real change that they never actually wanted to happen
“I asked all the right questions,” yes, because the CEO/board being exposed for terrible work environments is gonna admit to this random influencer that they do in fact treat their employees terribly like, what did she expect? For the CEO to be like, “rats, you’ve seen through the charade”
“Would’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those pesky influencers!” JK Yeah no they have no intention of letting anything slip to show what really happens.
I really was thinking the whole video like "you believed them...??" Always talk to the bottom of the food chain, not the tip top that makes all the money lmao
If you actually think about it Shein is playing these people. They invited influencers who don’t have any experience in journalism to report on the conditions of their company. I’m pretty sure that Shein planned this for publicity maybe even the publicity that they would get from influencers being canceled (this was even on the news giving them more publicity.) I think that Shein chose these influencers to throw them under the bus while they got free promo 🤷🏽♀️
The tandem ideas that people - choose to be evil, and - if you catch them out in that decision, they’ll stop Like... when people choose to do bad shit, they’re not choosing to be evil, and wildly from the perspective of someone who has no compulsion to do this stuff, when people who lie pervasively get caught, they don’t like... stop. They don’t go “well shucks u got me” even when that would be the best course of action to be forgiven, they don’t do it
My mom is a seamstress. We don't live in China and she works for a high end brand here and she STILL gets paid just cents per clothing, she needs to work crazy hours every day just to make ends meet. I can't even imagine how the Shein workers are treated and it makes my blood BOIL to see people like this, that haver the means to buy ethically sourced clothing, but they don't even try, they just support this awful awful industry
I worked for high fashion and you’d be SURPRISED what factory workers (yes cus high fashion isn’t made in Italy and France like they claim) are paid like this so really what is ethical? Someone buying a Balenciaga top vs Shein? Aren’t they all unethical at the end of the day?
@@user-fe8uq9zp2g yeah this is true. probably better off buying from charity stores and reusing rather than buying new all the time. or going to boutiques with ethically made high quality clothing. and people shouldnt think just cause it's s expensive designer it's ethically made. i can afford expensive items so i actually research and only buy from ethical small boutiques, people who can afford expensive clothing also need to wake up and educate themselves tbh
thats why i don't get why people buy high end brands cause in the end they just exploit people and its often not even the brand that have factory but they get their items done by tierce factory and then put a logo on it to sell at stupid price
It kind of rubbed me the wrong way how she kept bringing up xenophobia and fat phobia in order to get people to be on her side. There absolutely is xenophobia towards china and fat phobia towards women like her, don’t get me wrong, but the lack of nuance felt like she was kind of being manipulative.
"You're being xenophobic towards china by pointing out how horrible chinese workers are being exploited" make it make sense, do you want them to suffer??
It's not xenophobic to point out the FACT that China is an authoritarian regime that mistreats its people, disseminates propaganda and puts people in concentration camps.
@cutthroatalex7291i mean... As far as i know, no other brand like Zara or H&M brings a bunch of influencers (and pay them) to a fake factory in Bangladesh to make a huge PR move
@cutthroatalex7291Yes, all fast fashion companies around the world do partake in these practices, but Shein produces and manufactures new designs at a ridiculously high rate compared to brands like Zara and H&M, and that’s saying something. Plus, as the person above me stated, as far as I’m aware brands like Zara and H&M haven’t brought influencers to a fake factory. Im not here to cancel anyone who went on this trip or to shame anyone for buying from these companies, just stating that the idea that Shein is the same as other fast fashion companies just isn’t true.
@cutthroatalex7291 Nikes crazy unethical business practices have BEEN exposed, all the information is there, yet their products continue being sought and bought to an outrageous degree.
It’s WILD to me that not only would a brand consider bringing influencers to a low wage factory an “influencer trip” it’s bizarre that these influencers don’t find anything off putting about recording these people doing their jobs… so eerie.
shein took advantage of her as a plus size influencer & her plus size followers. which doesn't excuse her taking part in it, but they know that plus size influencers (& plus size people in any industry) typically don't get the opportunities that straight size influencers get, like brand trips. they also know that plus size women & feminine presenting people are a MASSIVE part of their consumer base (because they can't find clothes elsewhere), & they know that many of these plus size people probably feel bad about buying from shein because their exploitative labor policies have been so thoroughly exposed on the internet. so they specifically chose a plus size influencer & specifically decided to give her a factory tour for these reasons. it's all very calculated & they did it all for their own gain, to try & manage their crumbling image. but of course every company does everything for their own gain & no one cares about anyone else because we live in a capitalist hell of our own creation.
This!!! She was obviously wrong but they absolutely knew what they were doing because this creator in particular even admits she’s been underpaid and basically fell for it because they were treating her well /: they were manipulating her and she couldn’t even see it. I feel like it’s definitely a case of seeing what she wanted to because they were treating her well and they do well with size inclusivity /:
Im sorry, the part in this influencer's first explanation video where she talks about being "60% underpaid as a plus size content creator" while SUPPORTING THE FAST FASHION SWEATSHOP LABOUR EXPLOITATION MACHINE? Talk about being blinded by your own privilege
Fr it is so tone deaf to complain how you are treated as a plus-sized influencer with a ton of money when you are actively supporting a brand that is known to underpay and mistreat people who live in poverty. Like girl I understand you have your struggles but like come on Plus didn’t she say she wasn’t payed at all after that? 🤔 so how did that pay you more than you would usually get payed but also they didn’t pay you?
She said people like her get underpaid but shein didn’t underpay her for the trip, they took care of her, then said she didn’t get paid to go on the trip. I’m so confused 😂
Even if Shein was using exclusively decent factories, they would still be notorious for stealing from small creators (often for product pictures) and independent brands (stealing product designs down to the styling of photography). Also it's impossible to produce "only what's needed" when you drop tens of new designs per day Even if they made no more than 50 of each garment, those kinds of numbers add up FAST. Their entire business model is hella unethical
Right? If they actually only made what was needed, you'd have ordering periods, wait times of a few weeks for production for that design/collection and then whatever time for shipping. Like what smaller independant brands do. "Making only what's needed" is slow fashion, no way in hell is Shein slow fashion lol
It would be 100 percent possible if they only produced garments as they were ordered. They just don't because that would be more expensive. But saying it's impossible is a lie.
I've recently lived in China for a year. Been to Guangzhou, stayed in Shenzhen, saw a lot of places and met many native Friends and let me tell you... The work conditions are absolutely horrendous. It doesn't matter if you're a low class worker or middle class worker; it is absolutely different from what we are used to. In my time there I got to acknowledge how privileged I really am - just by living in Germany... Just by being German. China is incredibly beautiful and very welcoming, but our friends were always stressed out, always at work. Their lives didn't revolve around them, it revolves around work. Every minute you are there, counts. Breaks are rare, vacations are practically non existent - except for the public holidays, and if you miss a day because of sickness, you better hope you can come in the next, otherwise who is going to pay the rent? There is also no payout for mother leave when you just had a baby. Most mothers are back to work shortly after delivery. I believe that there are company who are trying to bring a change, but I haven't personally seen them or made friends with anyone, who works there. So yeah. I love China, China is great, beautiful, warm - for tourists.
This 👆. I believe this happens in many other Asian countries as well. My husband works in logistics in an Asian owned company here in North Germany. Logistics here is already kind of bad, in my experience, but this Asian company kind of wants to bring the toxic work environment into the Firm and they don't like it that Germans have so many vacations and sick days. Currently, everyone offers home office but not them, of course. They were even mad that they had to implement a system for logging in the working time. Now imagine trying to defend a clothing company based in China that's just crazy!
@@sancochita7392 yes!!! That situation is very similar to mine. My husband was sent out to work in China to help the communication between the German and Chinese offices, but there are some points, especially work ethic, where you can't find common ground. We value different things and there doesn't seem to be a bridge yet.
This is such a great way to put it. Chinese people are not a problem, it's the Chinese government and their lack of care for their citizens that is the problem.
"I'm not a sell out" "I can't be bought" Accepts a free trip and clothes which let's face it, is a form or payment for the videos. She wouldn't have made these videos about how good shein is if they just emailed her and asked.
She really thinks corporate is going to tell her the truth....girl. I work at a warehouse and I can tell you they say they have policies but they are not followed.
This is so reminiscent of the people who take tourism trips to North Korea and come back saying stuff like; “I don’t know what everyone is talking about. I didn’t see any labor camps or starving people and everyone just seemed so happy.”
I think this was a great choice on *Shein*'s part because they get the free marketing and exposure and everyone turns their anger onto the influencers, not Shein itself for setting up this trip and (probably, not saying for sure) manipulating the creators into saying these "great things" about the company
I think it's about expectations. Everyone expects the greedy corporation to lie (except these geniuses apparently) but people do expect due diligence and respect for the subject matter from someone calling themselves an "investigative journalist."
This influencer pisses me off so much “investigative journalist” I dont think she knows what investigating means. Love you queen thanks for the new video 🐻
I got whiplash with how quickly she changed her tune. I need to know how she went from doubling down and defending them so hard to the “I made a mistake,”. Like, what made her finally open her eyes? I’m so curious.
I think, the way she agressively (I know who the fuck I am.. I could never, will never be a sell out) doubled down on her opinion makes me think she made this in the heat in the moment. And now realised she made multiple insensitive comments, which causes a flood of comments.
Why does the internet keep allowing this to happen ??? you just dont go on a brand trip, double down and then say "tee hee sorry i made a mistake" once she got called out. i truly hope she puts her money where her mouth is and donate all the revenue she got from those videos to organizations that help these sweat shop workers, otherwise this was all to save her brand
@@emily5802agreed, i doubt she'll even stop purchasing Shein products, she'll probably still buy them and just not advertise it on her account/channel Did she not realise the prices were so low for a reason??
hey listen at least she admitted that she was wrong and took a step back, that's respectable. after protecting shein so hard i would have been embarrassed to even show my face ever again
Thing is, that first, she posted a video gaslighting people; implying that if we believed “rumors about Shein”, we weren’t “independent” thinkers. Then she makes these statements that we haven’t been to China, that she knows better, etc. that video was quite nasty. And just after repeated criticism, then she finally posted somewhat an apology video yet still didn’t accept accountability trying to defer to making certain decisions due to her own size and vulnerabilities. Basically excuses. and lastly she uses these empty phrases to describe herself as “investigative journalist” or “confidence” ambassador. First of, she is no journalist; 2nd, people who are truly confident, don’t have to announce that every step. I don’t know if she is dumb or she pretended to be. Even I, person who doesn’t know much about clothing industry, can tell Shein uses shady practices just based on their prices.
@@Sarahlee358 yeah but that still doesn't change the fact that the person actually came clean and admitted that they were in the wrong even when they were paid real good by Shein to keep lying and keep the same narrative. just look at mikayla for example, she just doesn't give a damn about anything or anyone after numerous controversies and she is a huge influencer who has big impact on community. where did i ever say in my comment that her coming clean suddenly negated all of her wrong doings? i just pointed out that it was neat of her, nowadays influencers don't care enough to even pretend they are sorry and in the wrong.
As a mother who is always stressed because of my toddler making any noise, thank you! I just had that happen to me two days ago when my toddler got exited on a bus and screamed YES, the amount of side eyes I got was too much tbh…
It really irritates me that so many ‘influencers’ promote brands like this. Yes on occasion I will buy from primark, nobody is perfect, but maybe if all the ‘influencers’ promoted ethical brands then those brands would get so much business they could reduce their prices? I’m not a business person but there must be a better way.
Thank you so much for covering this Angelika, when I heard about this situation I was actually so shocked😭😭😭 I can NOT believe the things influencers are getting up to
It really takes me out when influencers go to ppls place of work, especially when the working conditions are poor and ppl are barely getting paid, and they treat it like it’s a field trip to the amusement park 😭 it’s so unserious, like baby there’s nothing fun about working 10+ hours a day just so you can wear ugly clothes and my health is depleting every hour, no shade but like omg 😭
She goes to 1 Shein factory and suddenly thinks she knows everything about the company and everyone else knows nothing because you’ve never been there, you’ve never been to China 😂
Honestly the 'you're racist, you've never been to China, de-bunking rumours' spiel is so offensive, how dare she. She also mentions that she was well paid within the context of often not being paid well as a plus size person, so I don't understand how that works alongside 'I wasn't paid to say anything'. And no, lots of us wouldn't take a brand deal from Shein; influencers don't represent normal people lol. Great video, and I appreciate how you always acknowledge the price and accessibility that fast fashion provides to many people and don't judge. Edit; so I just watched the end and saw her retraction/announcement. Where did all this come from and why doesn't she say what happened? All v weird
ikr me sitting there watching it being told "youre racist, being fed anti-Chinese propaganda, youve never been to china"... having literally grown up in china lmaoo. idk how she can so callously disregard those that are criticising her by waving her 'i went to china' card...
even if Shein somehow treated all their employees amazingly well, it doesn't change the fact the company is pretty much the #1 offender when it comes to fast fashion destroying the earth
I mean the toxic chemicals used to make their clothes, end up along with other substances from nearby coal plants Don't add enough to the mix. By their definition.
Thank you for addressing the fact that people shop with fast fashion for certain reasons. A lot of people are so incredibly harsh with people and so not understanding with fat people or poor people. I am both. Shein unfortunately is what fits and works. It also sucks that the clothes dont last a long time and its so frustrating. Thrifting isnt an option for a vast majority of fat people because fat clothing is rarely donated and when it is, it is from older people or it is snatched up by resellers for "baggy" fashion. just, thank you.
It’s been proven that shein is on a whole different level of horrible when it comes to environmental impact and working conditions. Like the level that they produce is wayyyyy more than any other fast fashion brand. So when people are like “well every brand does this” it’s not true. Yes most brands are made in bad conditions but not to the degree that shein is
this is something i wasn't aware of until recently and i feel like this information is being pushed more and more but people STILL want to be ignorant to it
I haven't been here for a couple years since around James Charles' drama and omg... the fact that your vibe is the same but you seem so much more confident and self assured.. lowkey proud of my lil internet sis rn.
I am very glad that you're doing so good ❤ I've been with you since before you dropped uni and I am the happiest that you have been doing so amazing with TH-cam and life ❤
Shein really spent all that money flying those influencers out and doing this trip when they could have used that same money to provide better working conditions and higher wages for their employees
there’s a saying in brazil that goes like: “depois que inventaram a desculpa, ninguém nunca mais morreu” which means “once i’m sorry got invented, nobody else died” it’s a sarcastic way of saying that people expect “i’m sorry” to be enough without dealing with the consequences of their actions
I just learned that plastic don't really disintegrate although that's what they've been telling us. Apparently, they just shrink after years or decades or centuries depending on what type of plastic they are until they become small enough that we just INHALE them. The person I learned it from explained it better but yeah... They don't decompose, they just get small enough that they're not visible to the naked eye. (I just said that because she talked about fabric disintegrating. Nylon is a type of plastic so...)
Complaining about being underpaid as an influencer while trying to defend yourself for promoting a company that is notorious for underpaying their employees to the point of exploitation is wild to me
Not to mention that Chinese government can create an exit ban for any reason without notice even after one bought plane tickets to get out of the country.
Her video being like "you would have done the same thing" was so irritating. I hate when people think that they know what everyone is thinking and then go and say "you this you that" like no actually you're wrong!
“You would do it too!” Nahhh unless this was the only way to save my kid’s life or something I wouldn’t spread lies and propaganda about Shien for a free trip uwu
In the industrial era my city used to be a textile conglomerate. We had a whole thing in my history class where we’d look at pictures taken in the factory and talk about how they were not an accurate source of telling the actual conditions there. (It was clearly a staged picture with people looking happy and well while working there) This is the same thing...
I can understand how much this probably meant to her as a plus sized person to finally feel like she has the recognition and part she deserved, and really let that cloud her judgement. But omg, “only a few thousand workers” and she thought that was a main production factory?!?!
Proud to say i have never bought shein. In college we would buy forever 21 and HM until I did a deep dive and was appalled at what I learned!! We need more sustainable brands.
People also forget this is just a small part of the chain, even ethically made clothes often use unethical fabric, material sourcing is often Horrible. Pregnant women in field under the hot sun for 14 hours a day. How people still believe in ethical fashion is beyond me. If you wanna be ethical, just buy less, use what u buy, fix what is broken
Exactly this!! Rather buy from a company who acknowledges the industry is horrible but invests in making change! Fresh from the farm up the road eggs can use child labour because the farmers are using their own families to cut costs, nowhere and nothing is ethical in our world unfortunately!
I know that it’s unfair but honestly sometimes I think that people who buy from brands like this just care more about themselves and their vanity than the people who make theses clothes lives
Lol so I've worked in retail and I've worked in corporate and I can tell you this, the hoops they go through when their is a visit is unmatched. When the big boss comes in, we all go by the handbook but we all know that's not how it is daily. A lot of influencers never worked regular jobs so there's this naivety about just normal life
I really appreciate that you didn't bash people who do buy SheIn. I have had to use them as a plus sized woman in poverty. I don't use it to be "in fashion" i do it to have clothes acceptable for my job. I hate that I support a company like them and only buy the necessary.
Imagine how nerve-wracking it must've been for the workers having that white girl wandering around asking questions KNOWING THEIR BOSSES WERE WATCHING THEIR ASWERS VERY CLOSELY
I’ve never shopped at Primark or Shein, I like buy good quality clothing, made from good materials as it lasts a lot longer and a lot of the time it’s not much more expensive especially if you look out for the sales
I think they picked small to mid size influencers on purpose. They knew they could wine and dine them and these influencers would sing whatever song they told them. As for China being a separate issue… it really isn’t. For the record when I say Chine I mean the CCP (the government of China) and not the people. The unfortunate reality is that many of these factories use forced labor of oppressed people in China (like the Uyghurs). In addition private companies are not really private in China. The CCP has a lot of control over “private” companies located in mainland China. There is a lot of xenophobia associated with China and their way of life but that doesn’t mean there are not problem and problems that bleed into issues like fast fashion.
When u were talking about mothers and babies, it reminded me of a situation that happened to me, I was on the bus with my daughter, she was 2-3 and we drove past her half sisters house and she excitedly said her sisters name, she wasn’t loud, this woman behind me told me to shut my child up, say what u want about me but say something about my daughter, well the gloves comes off. I didn’t make a scene or be nasty, I just said to her, she isn’t making loads of noise, leave her be. I was so embarrassed, but other people on the bus stuck up for me. You are right though, companies don’t care about mothers, I worked for the coop for 11 years, I had to pay for childcare etc to work a job, when I was phoned to do overtime, I had to do it or my manager would make my life hell, but there were some people who had kids and they worked set shifts, I was a single mother and the others weren’t but I was penalised. I never used the excuse of having a child, I worked different shifts, maybe I should have been like the others and only worked school hours, but I worked my way up the ladder that way and ended up being an assistant manager
A family member of mine worked for a few months in one of the largest umbrella companies in Asia, and their main factories are in China. When he went to check on the factories in China for a work trip, he was so astonished and terrified. The working conditions are inhumane, the people are treated like animals, and no one is able to do anything to change their conditions because all the higher ups wished was to minimize cost. As his beliefs did not align with the company, despite a well-pay, he quit after his trial months. China is so good at propaganda and brainwashing others it’s crazy, I would never ever trust what they are proudly presenting to us.
To deny fast fashion is classist because some people can’t afford to spend hundreds on clothes but to accept fast fashion is supporting slave labour, bad working conditions and bad quality clothes. The influencers who did this should be ashamed of themselves
I don’t believe it is classist. Thrift, handmedowns, saving up for staple pieces. Also you can buy clothes on clearence ir deals. Poshmark, vinted, letgo etc. are great apps for buying lightly used pieces. Also making your own clothing is an option. I can understand the argument of it being more affordable but there are plenty of other affordable options.
Girl, a video came up on my homepage from a channel that I don’t follow who also reports on news/drama, and it was about this SHEIN brand trip, I hadn’t heard anything about this (I’m not active on TikTok) so started watching, then went ‘WAIT has Angelika posted about this?’ And here I am haha don’t know how I missed it first time (want to hear it from u, not the other channel) xo
Honestly even as a plus size person myseld, I think there are better places to shop. SheIn still has a low size range for plus size people and you can shop plus size fast fashion that isn't as significantly harmful. The level they produce at is unnecessarily massive
the worst part about only being able to afford shein (and occasionally target, if it’s on sale or I save up) is that people LOVE to tell me to thrift but every thrift store near me is filled to the brim with shein clothes that are priced MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THEY ARE NEW. i’ve seen TANK TOPS that are about $5 on shein priced at $8-10 at buffalo exchange. i’m also just out of the standard sizes so it’s even worse. like don’t get me wrong I would probably prefer to thrift if the clothes were priced reasonably for fast fashion pieces that weren’t expensive to begin with (and the thrift stores are hurting themselves because if the shein stuff was cheaper i’d buy all my clothes there instead).
Exactly! They had zero pants my size and even the men's jeans were only 40 inch+ so my husband couldn't get anything either! Not only that, buying fabric to "make my own clothes" is also processed in these style factories around d the world. The lack of escape is so sad when you're broke
her walking thru the factory like "woah labor is so fascinating"......sigh. i understand being fascinated by the machines but not treating the humans working there as content- i did an internship at a printing factory and i found it so fascinating as a person who has a special interest on printing technology to talk with the workers and working with them and understanding how every machine worked. i filled a whole sketchbook with sketches of the machines and little drawings of the way they function, but the difference is i WORKED there and wasnt invited to make content out of labor for a huge unethical and criminal corporation.
I also think that choosing this influencer was a part of the companies plan, because she has been maligned in the past they knew she'd be an easy mark. If they just showed her a crumb of decency she would be a ride or die for this company. Awful.
the COMPLETE 180 from you guys have never been to china i know more about it than anyone i would NEVER compromise my morals to ....hey guys so I made a mistake was hilarious she was fighting SO hard just to turn around completely
Idk Dani it was the way you easily fell for a facade shown to you by the billionaires profiting off of this company's shitty practices... That wasnt very "Investigative journalist" of you
I saw this on the news and the reporter who did the documentary on Shein’s actual conditions a made a good point. These influencers are messing up and saying all of these things because they aren’t journalist… They’re influencers. And shein did this on purpose because they knew that they could invite someone like an influencer who wouldn’t do their research and take what they say at face value. You have to remember their job is to influence not to report on serious matters. Shein is literally using them, if they truly wanted someone to judge the working conditions and actually factually report on their company they would’ve invited a journalist. Instead they chose these influencers who could give them press (like this video) even from them getting thrown under the bus and getting “canceled” for lack of a better word
Thank you for speaking up for us parents as well. I always hate the looks people give when my kids scream. I've even seen my own family members do that... it's like, "you're pissed my kids are screaming around you for literally a minute but this doesn't stop when we leave the store. They scream the ride home and at home." I get in my personal situation I chose to "sideways dance" and get pregnant so I know it's all on me. But, I did not sign up for neglect from society just because I'm a mom. The, "you're a mom, its your job." Yeah, its my job to take care of my kids but if someone sees a parent struggling they laugh like its "just part of motherhood" like I deserve disrespect. I'm taking care of CHILDREN. Children are the most important people on the planet and should be taken care of and respected unconditionally. That means understanding and helping moms, dads, and gaurdians too. Its like, I want to work again (I was a body piercer but I don't ever want to go back into that field...) with birds. I love birds and want to help and even do rescue work but child care is too much in the states. Even a part-time job would end up costing us money. I've wanted to make makeup vids for years as well. Trying to get up the confidence to just do it and continue doing it. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🥝💚🖤
It was so bizarre to see her re-use real points in conversations surrounding sinophobia in the West and rework them to fit her defense of a fast-fashion company. There IS an issue of people conflating fast fashion companies based in China with every single Chinese citizen, but that's not what she's defending! She's defending the fast fashion company that exploits CHINESE workers!! She is so misguided, and I actually do think it's malicious to act like this enlightened white girl coming to Guangzhou and seeing "the truth ""about China""" herself. We aren't talking about the ENTIRETY of China when we say it's weird to go on a brand trip to a SHEIN factory! Her response is WEIRD and I personally think she's circled back to sinophobia herself.
@@v7014 xenophobia is a general term referring to prejudice against people from other countries. sinophobia is specifically prejudice against chinese people and culture. i'm using the correct term.
i dont think people realize either just how difficult sewing is. currently trying to learn and i cant even read a patter let alone sew one these people have such a good skill and are being exploited for it
One thing I will say is I work for Amazon and after only 3 months of working there I went into labor and when i tried going back to work a week later my manager was like no you should be home took me to HR got me 10 weeks off paid and then paid for my uber home. They also have a private room to pump in if needed. They also sent me a giftbox worth like $150. No they don't have childcare but I felt cared about and taken care of it wS nice.
it's just a classic case of being on a high horse. believing everything they say at a conference, getting hyped up because it's the first time they've been invited anywhere. Then assuming, which to me is the funniest. bit, that literally no one that has watched that video has been to China 🤣
Anyone noticed how new generation of influencers (when someone point out BS) instead of saying sorry or thinking about their words and actions they become very offended? Just like her being almost angry at people calling her out just to few days later say oh I cut them off I'm sorry I'm dissappearing bye

The tandem ideas that people
- choose to be evil, and
- if you catch them out in that decision, they’ll stop
Like... when people choose to do bad shit, they’re not choosing to be evil, and wildly from the perspective of someone who has no compulsion to do this stuff, when people who lie pervasively get caught, they don’t like...
Same. It was a couple cents 30-50 years ago and it’s still a few cents to this day
I worked for high fashion and you’d be SURPRISED what factory workers (yes cus high fashion isn’t made in Italy and France like they claim) are paid like this so really what is ethical? Someone buying a Balenciaga top vs Shein? Aren’t they all unethical at the end of the day?
@@user-fe8uq9zp2g yeah this is true. probably better off buying from charity stores and reusing rather than buying new all the time. or going to boutiques with ethically made high quality clothing. and people shouldnt think just cause it's s expensive designer it's ethically made. i can afford expensive items so i actually research and only buy from ethical small boutiques, people who can afford expensive clothing also need to wake up and educate themselves tbh
thats why i don't get why people buy high end brands cause in the end they just exploit people and its often not even the brand that have factory but they get their items done by tierce factory and then put a logo on it to sell at stupid price
...... At this day and age, wgat even is a "HiGh eNd" brand?
It kind of rubbed me the wrong way how she kept bringing up xenophobia and fat phobia in order to get people to be on her side. There absolutely is xenophobia towards china and fat phobia towards women like her, don’t get me wrong, but the lack of nuance felt like she was kind of being manipulative.
She had to sell her stupid narrative on how Shein is awesome, blah blah blah. But I agree, it definitely was annoying.
Literally weaponised REAL problems!
100% manipulative, you’re absolutely right.
"You're being xenophobic towards china by pointing out how horrible chinese workers are being exploited" make it make sense, do you want them to suffer??
It's not xenophobic to point out the FACT that China is an authoritarian regime that mistreats its people, disseminates propaganda and puts people in concentration camps.
she is legit calling shein a fast fashion brand and then says they “only produce what’s needed” babe is it one or the other? both can’t be true
and they have thousands of items
I am Chinese and I know how unreal this Shein influencer trip/factory is….. honestly, we are not stupid 😑 period
ikr and she was like 'youve never been to china you dont know'... I've lived there for most my life lol, Chinese people aren't that stupid or naive
Which is why i probably didn't see any remotely Asian American influencers on the trip
They chose influencers so desperate for a trip (1s that'd otherwise be passed-up), that they'll say ANYTHING.🤦🏼♂️
My jaw dropped when she said they have a low carbon footprint 💀💀💀
like what-?
same here, right when she said that I was pausing the video and went for the comments. like...... wow
shein took advantage of her as a plus size influencer & her plus size followers. which doesn't excuse her taking part in it, but they know that plus size influencers (& plus size people in any industry) typically don't get the opportunities that straight size influencers get, like brand trips. they also know that plus size women & feminine presenting people are a MASSIVE part of their consumer base (because they can't find clothes elsewhere), & they know that many of these plus size people probably feel bad about buying from shein because their exploitative labor policies have been so thoroughly exposed on the internet. so they specifically chose a plus size influencer & specifically decided to give her a factory tour for these reasons. it's all very calculated & they did it all for their own gain, to try & manage their crumbling image. but of course every company does everything for their own gain & no one cares about anyone else because we live in a capitalist hell of our own creation.
Like girl I understand you have your struggles but like come on
Plus didn’t she say she wasn’t payed at all after that? 🤔 so how did that pay you more than you would usually get payed but also they didn’t pay you?
She said people like her get underpaid but shein didn’t underpay her for the trip, they took care of her, then said she didn’t get paid to go on the trip. I’m so confused 😂
This is definitely the most tone deaf part for me. I visibly 😬
Even if Shein was using exclusively decent factories, they would still be notorious for stealing from small creators (often for product pictures) and independent brands (stealing product designs down to the styling of photography). Also it's impossible to produce "only what's needed" when you drop tens of new designs per day
Even if they made no more than 50 of each garment, those kinds of numbers add up FAST.
@@kittikat4124 yes!! Exactly
Wowww that’s fascinating to hear
"I'm not a sell out"
"I can't be bought"
Accepts a free trip and clothes which let's face it, is a form or payment for the videos.
She wouldn't have made these videos about how good shein is if they just emailed her and asked.
She really thinks corporate is going to tell her the truth....girl.
I work at a warehouse and I can tell you they say they have policies but they are not followed.
she genuinely just seems so gullible like i almost feel bad at how easily she’s been manipulated
okay just finished the video and i’m glad she listened to her comments and stuff i love to see influencers listening to their audience
@@mathildehickman4696 she only listened because her damage control wasn’t working and she doesn’t want to lose her platform.
Also kind of think she was blinded by a company treating her better, (getting 60% less pay then size 0 models) and hope she now learned.. 🤷♀️
@@emily5802agreed, i doubt she'll even stop purchasing Shein products, she'll probably still buy them and just not advertise it on her account/channel
Did she not realise the prices were so low for a reason??
hey listen at least she admitted that she was wrong and took a step back, that's respectable. after protecting shein so hard i would have been embarrassed to even show my face ever again
same id just take a 6 month break and hope for the best 😭
She is trying to save her brand.
@@mariemaier5630 yeah and?
This girl was love bombed, manipulated and gaslighted by Shein. Glad she woke up.
They picked their influencers very carefully.
I am very glad that you're doing so good ❤ I've been with you since before you dropped uni and I am the happiest that you have been doing so amazing with TH-cam and life ❤
“I thought I was gonna see blah blah blah” really … they thought SHEIN would pay them to expose themselves, please are they that gullible
Shein really spent all that money flying those influencers out and doing this trip when they could have used that same money to provide better working conditions and higher wages for their employees
we all know those things cost waaaay more than some airplane tickets and cheap clothes for influencers
they would never
I think she was genuinely honest but realized what it really was later realizing her mistake. At least she took accountability.
Nah mate “taking accountability” sometimes isn’t enough
there’s a saying in brazil that goes like: “depois que inventaram a desculpa, ninguém nunca mais morreu”
which means “once i’m sorry got invented, nobody else died”
it’s a sarcastic way of saying that people expect “i’m sorry” to be enough without dealing with the consequences of their actions
Nobody changes over night. She is just giving the story that gets her more followers.
@noabrand1256 it's enough. She didn't murder anyone.
She just said Shein did not underpay her... then she said she wasn't paid.
Complaining about being underpaid as an influencer while trying to defend yourself for promoting a company that is notorious for underpaying their employees to the point of exploitation is wild to me
Not to mention that Chinese government can create an exit ban for any reason without notice even after one bought plane tickets to get out of the country.
Underpayment IS exploitation. Like period.
That tiktoker who proclaimed herself "an investigative journalist" is straight up delusional. Just completely full of herself.
Her video being like "you would have done the same thing" was so irritating. I hate when people think that they know what everyone is thinking and then go and say "you this you that" like no actually you're wrong!
"They make size 4XL clothing! 🥰"
You're a rich influencer, you can afford big brands that make big clothing.
17:43 She’s giving MLM vibes 😬😬 She doesn’t know what she’s promoting. Painful to watch
Hearing them defend this abomination of a company made my skin crawl.
Well done on her for not just going quiet but actually backing down and admitting she let ppl down
“You would do it too!” Nahhh unless this was the only way to save my kid’s life or something I wouldn’t spread lies and propaganda about Shien for a free trip uwu
even what she said to defend shein was “they follow the law sooo” (which they don’t) but even if they did that’s the bare minimum babe
In the industrial era my city used to be a textile conglomerate. We had a whole thing in my history class where we’d look at pictures taken in the factory and talk about how they were not an accurate source of telling the actual conditions there. (It was clearly a staged picture with people looking happy and well while working there) This is the same thing...
this is seriously one of the best videos about this situation ive seen :)
We need more sustainable brands.
shane dawson should go on a walmart factory brand trip (prison)
“I’ll take out of touch for $1000, Alex.”
A lot of influencers never worked regular jobs so there's this naivety about just normal life
I love you you’re so funny and honest/relatable
A documentary called “The True Cost” does a really good job showing how impactful the fashion industry and fast fashion is on the planet and people.
"hey, well I got looked after so they can't be that bad right? "
How out of touch can a person be?
the way i just checked your channel for a new video and then got this notif
Damn they really have her under their finger feeding her what she wants to hear to go back and tell audiences. We all know the truth sis 🤣
Thank you for calling out nonsense like this, Angelika. ❤
hope you're having a good week angelika!! 💗
bruh why was the ad before the video for SHEIN 😂
There is still a difference between fast fashion and cheap clothing. We don't need fast fashion.
Not me getting a Shein ad on this video 😂.
it literally takes a google search, she could’ve just typed it in google lol
& thrifting depends so much on location. The small town I grew up in had crap at Goodwill, but in Chicago I obviously have more choices.
Exactly! They had zero pants my size and even the men's jeans were only 40 inch+ so my husband couldn't get anything either!
Not only that, buying fabric to "make my own clothes" is also processed in these style factories around d the world. The lack of escape is so sad when you're broke
I always felt she comes across as out of touch with reality, seeing her on this trip and how she backtracks on things she’s said has proved me right.
her walking thru the factory like "woah labor is so fascinating"......sigh. i understand being fascinated by the machines but not treating the humans working there as content- i did an internship at a printing factory and i found it so fascinating as a person who has a special interest on printing technology to talk with the workers and working with them and understanding how every machine worked. i filled a whole sketchbook with sketches of the machines and little drawings of the way they function, but the difference is i WORKED there and wasnt invited to make content out of labor for a huge unethical and criminal corporation.
"Please let me see, let me read" 😭😭 I love her so much 🤣
Completely unrelated but I LOVE Angelikas nails, literal dream length and shape for me
I also think that choosing this influencer was a part of the companies plan, because she has been maligned in the past they knew she'd be an easy mark. If they just showed her a crumb of decency she would be a ride or die for this company. Awful.
Making a better effort to comment even if I have nothing to say bc I just enjoy your channel so much!
the COMPLETE 180 from you guys have never been to china i know more about it than anyone i would NEVER compromise my morals to ....hey guys so I made a mistake was hilarious she was fighting SO hard just to turn around completely
Her saying we would do the same thing and go on the brand trip. Bestie, no we wouldn’t have. We know better.
Her response is WEIRD and I personally think she's circled back to sinophobia herself.
i don’t mean this in a rude way but it’s spelled xenophobia !!❤️
@@v7014 sinophobia is acutally a word haha, sinophobia is xenophobia but towards Chinese people and culture specifically!
@@v7014 xenophobia is a general term referring to prejudice against people from other countries. sinophobia is specifically prejudice against chinese people and culture. i'm using the correct term.

No they don't have childcare but I felt cared about and taken care of it wS nice.
funny how she thinks nobody who criticizes her could possibly have been to china
Try being a teacher- "60% of the time underpaid" FOH lol
The Anti-Capitalist Book of Fashion is a really good read on this topic!
it's just a classic case of being on a high horse. believing everything they say at a conference, getting hyped up because it's the first time they've been invited anywhere.
She just doesnt want to admit she WAS manipulated and she WAS targeted because she is a smaller creator and obviously vulnerable.
I have to give myself a pep talk in the mirror every day before my shift, does that mean I'm a confidence activist too ;)
I love how u are going so green and eco friendly
