It's a horrible feeling, but one that I think we all go through from time to time. The good news is that it doesn't last forever and I am optimistic that things will get easier for us sellers this year. Fingers crossed! 😊
Great video Kim! I had to pivot my Etsy products towards the customers who were finding me. Up until 2018 my art sold fine - then Etsy changed something and it never recovered. So I had to change. Sadly Etsy is not performing - again. So I am waiting to see the numbers in the investor presentation at the end of the month and then I'll be making some more decisions about the future. (Cue dramatic music 😆)
What I find really interesting is how many people leave comments saying that they still make sales on other platforms, but find Etsy the hardest. It makes me wonder if it's a saturation and getting seen problem, or a wrong audience problem. It's definitely a trickier place these days and it'll be interesting to hear what Etsy have to say in the next presentation.
@@KimBliss In my case it's definitely a getting seen problem. My 'craft supply' sales are all organic but my visibility has dropped consistently since last February, despite regular sales. I'm hoping the presentation will give us an idea about why this has happened. Maybe, one day, Etsy will get itself back on an even keel - - and then she laughed and laughed 🤣🤣🤣
My shop is terribly quiet at the moment, but my opening was successful because of my Facebook followers. Right now I'm redoing my photos and rethinking my branding. I hope to get your course soon, but have life things hitting my budget at the moment. I'm excited to say that your course will be the first one I take!! 🤗 Thanks for always giving me something to really think about!!
It sounds like you've already made a fantastic start. Not just in terms of sales, but also finding where your ideal customers are so that you can grow your audience and speak with them. Great work Maria! Keep it up, things will get easier I'm certain. I'm being stubbornly optimistic! 😄
love the "new audience, new channel" method for figuring it out. Just talked about this last night with my hubby and as I explained it, citing how your channel subscribers might end up getting notifications about a video they could care less about, he got it and said that had definiitely happened to him with certain channels and he ended up unsubscribing. I used you as an example of how the audience for this channel didn't necessarily want the videos on knitting/embroidering and so having a 2nd channel makes sense (and of course there are those of us who subscribe to both) 😊 Also thought the visualization/name for your ideal customer was a cool idea. I'm going to have to put some thought into that! thanks!!
It's a great piece of advice isn't it! It really helped me sort myself out with regards to what content to share where here on TH-cam and over on Instagram. The only downside though is that it's extra work. It's a good job I love what I do! 🤪
I need to follow your advice. I'm very stubborn about making what I like - because I'm creative and that's what I do. I need to start focusing on the customer more, or at least be able to define them properly. I've always struggled with this, and clearly have never mastered it. I need to take some time out and have a serious think about all this - but procrastination. I did a lot of pivoting thanks to the pandemic, and I'm not as streamlined workwise as I used to be. :/
I struggle with just making things I like too, it must be a creative thing. I like to compromise and make items I like and items that I wouldn't normally make, but I know are popular with my customers. 💚
@@KimBliss We're creatives. Why would we make something we don't like or would make just for the money? It's inherent in our nature that we want to make what we love and that's why we so often struggle with running creative businesses. It's so personal.
