It is great to hear a bass like that. The quartet is very good and the other musicians also are the best. Mike is a must to hear bass. Great voice. Herecalico, thanks for posting. I love it
Wow...he just came to gunnings Baptist yesterday for morning and evening services. Great holy ghost filled servant of God. So good to have him visit again . Blountville, Tennessee.
HIDE ME, ROCK OF AGES (1946) Key: G 4/4 Words & Music: Brantley C George 1. O Thou blessed Rock of Ages (Rock of Ages, I am)Trusting now, dear Lord, in Thee; (dear Lord, in Thee I'm trusting)Keep me till my journey's ended, (journey's ended, Keep me)Till Thy blessed face I see. Chorus:Hide me, O blest Rock of Ages, Till Thy blessed face I see; (Thy face I see, in glory,)When the storm around me rages, (round me rages, Blessed) Rock of Ages hide Thou me. 2. Keep me when the storm-clouds gather, (storm-clouds gather, keep me)Till the sun comes shining thru; (comes shining thru the shadows)Keep me till my work is over, (Work is over, Keep me )Till I bid this world adieu. 3. When my journey is completed, (is completed, Savior),And there's no more work to do; (no work to do, O blessed)Savior guide my weary spirit, (weary spirit, To that ) Happy land beyond the blue.
This song was recorded by The Inspirations in 1970 on the album named , Keep Your Eyes On Jesus , by Mark Five Records { No order number included here } . That recording was before Mike Holcomb joined , so I will look further for when this video showing was produced .
IMO the best bass singer ever. He consistently sings an octave below other bass singers. Never heard him miss a note and does not have a bottom note. J.D had the title "lowest bass singer" but he used the mic trick to help his low range. Mike doesn't need to do that.
As good as Ray Dean Reese is as a Bass singer for the Kingsmen Quartet, Mike Holcomb was even better (and lower) than Mr. Reese can ever be! Too bad that Bro. Holcomb isn't with the Inspirations any more. Oh, well.....
I can't understand the person who came up with the concept that musical instrument were a sin to have in church building. Didn't they know the voice is an instrument to? People take things out context and make a command to do it a certain way. You can make melody in your heart different ways.
Dear brother Mike, I hope your trip to Alaska went good. Gunnings Baptist sends love.

Superb bass. Even the "mosquitoes" like to hear him very close. There are many of them flying around his face.

Holcomb used vocal fry. George Younce and JD Sumner were the greatest of all time!
