His last three years with the Nationals were huge, then he signed a big-money, long-term contract and totally tanked. It's not the first time this has happened and it won't be the last. Long-term contracts with guaranteed money are the worst thing that has happened to baseball.

    • @Scotter4536

@@45vinyljunkie Your theory would be more valid if 1) he hadn't been one of the best players in the league during the COVID season, which was after he joined the Angels and had the big contract and 2) if he hadn't been battling injuries since then.
Also, Papelbon is one of the worst sources you could possibly find. There are several past teammates that have come out publicly stating how dumb he is. Seriously, look it up. I wouldn't trust this guys judgement or opinion of his teammates nor do I care what his values or priorities are. He freaking choked Harper for not hustling. Rendon didn't say he didn't want to play anymore. He eluded to this: if his family or faith calls him away from the game, he's going. At the MLB level, the game is a job, and yes, most players want to win, but I think Rendon is suggesting that as a commodity, he has to first be loyal to himself. Every MLB player is selfish to a higher degree than most people. If you're not, you cannot get to that level. Front offices are rarely loyal to players, so a player has to learn to be loyal to himself first and foremost above all else.

I have to agree with Papelbon. I don’t see anything good with the Angels and I’ve been a fan since the 60s it’s too bad for trout. I think they should trade him.

When Rendon says faith comes before baseball it sounds like he’s just using faith as an excuse not to take his job seriously. See 2 Thessalonians 3:10.
I think most Christians would praise a person who says faith before their job, but when Rendon says it, it somehow feels offensive to Christians as well.

Trade Rendon to the A's with the agreement with their loser owner to keep Rendon in the dugout and the Angels will not only pay his contract, but pay his league minimum as well.

Focus on the message not the messenger. Angels fan here but Rendon just gives off selfish vibes. Cancer may overstating it but if he can stay healthy and productive for at least 140 games, he would be considered intense instead of a cancer.

Angels front office is so bad man… So nobody ask around on what kind of person is Anthony Rendon is before signing him to a 250 million dollar contract. It’s not that hard.. just make a few phone calls .. geeez

Papelbon again? He is correct in what he is saying, but the messenger matters. Papelbon isn't the guy. We know his history. This is the second time Papelbon is calling someone out for the same things he did. This is weird.
